   I am a Cardinal fan and I have never seen worse calling by a home base umpire then this! It is unbelievable! And to throw a batter out of the game! GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

That being said - the Astro's are playing a GREAT game. The pitching is fantastic.

Umpire should be fined when they make mistakes and throw players out of the game.

I've had to stop watching the game - my heart couldn't take it.

I totally understand your frustration...if the tables were turned, I bet I'd feel the same way.....HOWEVER, my cousin is pitching for the Astros (Dan Wheeler) so I'm on the edge of my seat right now :)

As I said - the pitching is fantastic. I'm sure you are very proud.

A true Cardinal fan always appreciates good players, whether they are on our team or not. Sometimes it is a cross to bare ;)

Is your cousin really Dan Wheeler?!? I LOVED him when he pitched for the Mets (I'm a HUGE Mets fan!) That is so cool! The only MLB player I know is Mike Stanton (who lives in my neighborhood) and my sister knows Gary Sheffield (whose kids go to the daycare she works at).

I couldn't believe the call either, but I'm glad it went our way! I still can't believe both the player and the coach were thrown out of the game! This was a crazy but awsome game!! & if Wheeler is your cousin tell him Houston LOVES him! Especially ME! :lovestruc

Astros win. Series stands at 3-1, Astros.

Yes, he really is my cousin...I'm the oldest grandchild (there are 18 of us total) and he is the next oldest...we're only a year apart.....glad to hear you were a fan when he was in NY :) It was nice having him close becasue we got to go to the games...Houston is a hike from RI....lol....but he's doing well with the Astros and who knows, maybe he'll be World Series bound which would be so awesome :cool1:

Awww, thanks, that's sweet of you :goodvibes He's such a great kid...it's surreal for me to see him pitching in the big league....I think Houston is a nice fit for him....DH and I are hoping he stays there for a while so we can visit....never been to Houston but would love to :)

I went out to eat and didn't watch the whole game. What happened?

that entire game was a joke. what is it with umpires this playoffs? yesterday was pretty bad too. The Astros are pitching well, and the cardinals aren't playing their best, but its hard to beat a good team AND the umps. This is tough to watch. Once again, the cardinals rip my heart out and stomp on it. ASt least it was a fun season...

Ump was squeezing the cardinals pitchers, several bad calls. LaRussa got hot about a couple of walks....got ejected. Homeplate umpire didn't just walk away, but got into a shouting match.

Next inning, Jim Edmonds takes a clear ball 4, so far inside it almost hit him, he questions the call and is tossed immediately.

Ump seemed to be getting caught up in the excitement at the ballpark and was playing to the hometown crowd. It was tough to watch.

But its no excuse, the redbirds look lathargic. Heres to hoping they can wake up and win three in a row...yeah right.

In the game I saw, both teams had the same umpires. Nothing brings out the frustration like being down 3-1.

Yes they did. At one point they showed the Cards dugout, around just the 3rd inning, and I told my SO that they looked like they had already lost the game. There was no fire in their eyes at all. They looked beaten down.

Yes, that was a bad call. It's also a known fact that the one thing you don't do with an umpire is argue balls and strikes. A player can ask "are you sure?", which is a safe way to express his dissatisfaction with the call. Saying "That was a ball" is an automatic ejection 99.9% of the time, for any player, on any team.

yes, they had the same umpires, Im not taking anything away from the stros, but that strike zone sure changed an awful lot when the home team was batting. The cardinals had to adjust in that situation, they flat out cannot handle adversity. It happens...

watch the replays, those redbirds got hosed on quite a few calls...and that zone was drastically different.

Nice try. Did you watch the after show? Because I did and they talked about how the umpire was inconsistent with the strike zone. And that throws he was calling as strikes for the Cardinals were suddenly balls for the Astros. I appreciate good baseball no matter what - but it was quite obvious to me, the commentators, and the after show talking heads that the umpire was trying to control the game.

Nothing makes me more mad then a sour winner.

I'm not a sour winner. Not at all. I'm just tired of Card fans feeling as if they should be handed the WS on a platter because they had such a good record in the regular season. It's almost like they feel they shouldn't have to be put in the position where they might lose to a lowly wild card team. A good team should never put themselves in a position where a couple of bad calls steals the game from them. If the the Card's "Murderers row" that the fans are always bragging on had got a few hits early in the game before the ump went crazy, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Also, don't forget two men in scoring position with one out in the top of the ninth. Scoreboard.

OK....before this gets out of hand.... My apologies to anyone I might have offended. I'm not sure which it has been tougher to be this season, a Cards fan or an Astros fan. Cards fans have been led to believe all year that they were a team of destiny because they went wire to wire like last year. Last years WS was supposed to be a fluke loss and this was the year the Cards win it all. Then you have the Astros. You should have had to listen to our own home town sportscasters when they were 15-30. Those guys are eating some serious crow right now. We had to overcome losing Beltran, losing Kent because we waited too long to see if Beltran would sign, losing the opportunity to pick up a good free agent bat because of the same reason, then the horrible start this year.

I frequent a couple of MLB message boards, which is where the Cards attitude I describe above comes from. That's why I left my previous post intact, so you can see what we have to put up with. It chapped me a little, after all the playoff harmony we've had on the DIS to see a post that was the equivilant of "We wuz robbed!". What are the Astros suppose to do? Go to the ump and say "would you please change that call on Edmunds to a ball...it's the right thing to do."? Any manager that did that would be looking for work the next day.

Bad calls happen and good teams overcome them. Right now the Cards aren't the same team that clinched the division just a few short weeks ago.
