What’s the best way to book 2 reservations?

We recently bought our first DVC contract, 250 points at PVB and are just waiting on the points to be loaded (should be any day). My parents purchased the exact same contract size, home resort and use year but are a couple of weeks behind us in the process.

We each want to each book a studio for 10 nights at PVB for the end of February. I’m nervous that if we wait for my parents to have their points loaded there will be limited availability for their reservation.

We (Dh and I) have enough points to book the two rooms. Should I book both studios and cancel one studio for my parents to pick up when they get their points? Or can I transfer one reservation to my parents? Can I have them transfer me the points once they have them? This is our first booking so I am not 100% sure how that would all work.

Welcome Home!

For me, the easiest would be having your parents transfer in the points. That easy.

Thanks - would there be any issue with renting out those points once they are transferred to us?

I am sorry I do not know the answer to your question but know someone on here will be able to help. Congtarts!

Nope. "Point rental" is a misnomer. You're really renting a reservation made on those points. The only issue you will have is you will need to call to book using the transferred points.

Never count on this working. IF there is no studio to be had and they need that unit to be free to make the booking, there is a chance that when you cancel, the waitlist picks it up.

I agree that it might go to the waitlist when you cancel.

If you have the points, I would just book it. Then, as they get closer to the date, IF THERE ARE STILL ROOMS AVAILABLE, they can book and you can cancel.

If there are no rooms available, then they can just transfer points to you. You get one transfer per year, IN or OUT (some people have reported they were able to get more, but don't depend on it.)

If you transfer the points to your account, you can still rent them out.

If you want to use the points yourself, you don't even need to get them transferred. Just have them make a reservation for you, on their account, and then have them call member services and transfer the reservation to your name.

Hope you can get what you want.

First, since you have the points, the safest will be for you to go ahead and book the reservation for both of you. If there are still rooms available once your parents get their points then they could book a room under their contract and you could cancel the room you had booked for them with your contract. Trying to cancel for them to snag a room if there isn't availability for some of the days could very well mean not getting all the nights. More than likely they'll be able to book once they get their points and you can just cancel the room you reserved.

Thank you all very much!! That is super helpful. Once we have the points I will go ahead and book both rooms to make sure we have them, and then cancel one if my parents are able to book their own. We have rented many times so I’m used to the zero cancellation policy. I keep forgetting we have more flexibility now that we are owners ourselves.

As an aside. We got our letter from DVC on Monday confirming our deal had completed. I couldn’t register because they gave me the wrong login number. I called on the phone and they gave me the correct log in details which enabled me to access my points page which said zero points. I mentioned this to my advisor and she said it could take a couple more days for the points to appear. I explained that we were at our 11 month window and wanted to make sure that we could get our reservation sorted ASAP. She said hold on a minute and she would see what she could do. 10 seconds later our points magically appeared. Point being they may be able to expedite yours (if you ask nicely) too. Hope it helps
