What’s It Like To Be on a Disney Cruise During a Hurricane?

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be on a Disney Cruise during a hurricane? Read about my experience onboard the Disney Wish during Hurricane Ian!
I was on the Fantasy cruise during Ian. I have to say, we were quite jealous that you all got your cruise extended by two days but we ended up docking on time (though we didn't know until late the night before that we would be on time).

Also loved seeing the horn battle off Castaway Cay during that cruise! :-)

Oh my gosh, I bet! We couldn't quite figure out why they extended it like that, but we weren't complaining, that's for sure!

That horn battle was epic, wasn't it?

Yes, very epic!

I'm guessing they extended like that because it only affected one sailing, not two. The Wish couldn't come in Saturday because that's when the Fantasy was scheduled to come in. They had already cancelled the Friday Wish sailing, so there was no real rush to get the Wish back. Had they brought the Wish in Saturday then the Fantasy would have to wait until Sunday, which would have disrupted the Fantasy sailing scheduled to leave on Saturday.

We were on the Fantasy in Oct of 2012 and ran right into Hurricane Sandy. It was memorable. First (main) dinner was cut short; Captain Tom Forberg told everyone to stay in their stateroom. Water was pouring down the staircases (aft) (we were on Deck 10 mid), and we hung onto the bed all night. Limped back to PC late morning. The entire interior of the ship was trashed from pictures falling off the walls, displays toppled over, liquor bottles smashed, glasses and plates broken, everything fell off the shelves in the shops, what a mess! No breakfast, just disembark!

Must have been terrifying

It was so violent and the ship was tossing unpredictably that we didn't know what to expect. One thing, no one was puking, absolutely no smell of it throughout the ship, and the talking to people in the morning, no one got sick.

Oh my goodness! I had NO idea that this happened. Wow, just seven months after the ship's maiden voyage too. What a shame.

We definitely got the impression that keeping guests, crew members, and the ship safe were top priority. I'm sure that rule was set in place after what you experienced. Yikes - the cost of repairing all of that damage must've been insane. Hopefully everyone onboard was okay.

My DD is crew on one of the ships right now. The last few weeks have not been fun. Things got changed/added on the fly and everyone in her dept has had to work extra hours. They have had a lot of bad weather and rocky seas. Several days where even many of the crew were not feeling well.

All of my cruises have been in the spring or summer, so no I have not. I do want to do a fall cruise one day though (and hopefully not with a major hurricane!)

I've actually been fortunate to have relatively good weather on my trips. During one cruise it poured like crazy during our beach excursion in Bermuda, but it was still a good time. That whole day was off and on rain anyway.
