I called the Disney Store because I wanted to get the kiddos some shirts for our trip ahead of time. When talking to the manager, she said "oh - we aren't owned by Disney anymore - we are now owned by THE CHILDREN'S PLACE" Huhhh???

So, their sales aren't going to be the same anymore, their rates are all set by TCP.

Bummer, huh?

The Disney Stores were bought out by the Children's Place sometime ago. . . either October or November, I think. Our store still seems to carry the same merchandise and they have sales so I don't think it affected day-to-day stuff very much but I was sad to see the change for the people who worked there because I believe they lost a lot of the benefits of being a CM.

um . . . :worried:

. . . hmmmm . . . :rolleyes1

. . . SURPRISE!

I'm sorry, just couldn't resist. This has been talked about for more than a year here. Group Hug! :grouphug:

Don't you worry ChristmasSuprise......I must not know where I was either (FantasyLand, I guess! :rotfl: )

I did not know this news either!!

But my store is CONSTANTLY having sales-every time I go in they have a huge sale!

I haven't noticed any difference either. I just last week, and got DD, the tinkerbelle, suit, cover, towel, and flipflops, at 25% off. Not bad considering it's still snowing in Ohio.

Tons of t shirts for DH, at 5.99

Tons of deals on plush toys, and animals too.

TOO MUCH for my wallet, as usual.

I was a manager for TDS for many years and even met my husband there. We still know quite a few people who work there and they are not very happy about the benefit losses. The worst part is that WDW emplyees still get their discounts at the stores, but the store cm's no longer get their discount at the parks. Huhhh??

The catalog and online are still owned by Disney. They have some merch the stores have and some they don't. I was also told that you can still return online merch to the store even though they are different companies.

I am just glad I got out when I did!! We are down to our last four free one day park hoppers. :sad2: Every trip after this we will be buying tickets for the whole family. Ouch!!

I work in a Disney Store, and while we were officially owned by the Childrens Place in November, the merchandise in the stores right now was still purchased by Disney. The merchandise is purchased so far in advance, that we won't actually start seeing the items from the Children's Place buyers until sometime this fall.

On a positive note, though, we are seeing some of the CP influences- for instance, they have been having us retag some items in the store- we are lowering the prices. I think that being owned by the CP will be the best thing for all of us- Disney wasn't being too kind to the stores, and if we had not been bought out, we would have been closed.

I've actually found better prices and sales since the change.....right before Christmas, many toys were buy 1, get 1. What I have missed in the last couple of years however is the selection of things for adults, it has pretty much turned into a children's store.

The reason Disney employees get discounts for us and we don't for them is because Disney is paying for the benefit for their employees.

I just went last night to get some Disney Dollars and they're out until mid-May. Have also noticed that there is hardly anything anymore for adults - small section in back of store.

Oh well. . . . .

There have been many threads about this. Apparently they are updating them for the celebration. I thought mid-Apil though.

Has anything changed with the disney catalog? I know disneystore.com is now disneydirect.com. The reason I ask is that I noticed there was no valentine catalog this year as I always look forward to seeing that merchandise and now it's almost easter and no easter catalog either? Yet they had the stuff online.

I was at The Disney Store last night and, as of this past Thursday, The Disney Store no longer gives a discount (10%) for Disney Vacation Club members. Bummer!! I always counted on that little extra bit off. :(

As someone has stated earlier, Disney Inc. is still supplying merchandise to the stores. However, I think TCP merchandise is of excellant quality.

The worst part is that WDW emplyees still get their discounts at the stores, but the store cm's no longer get their discount at the parks.

Not anymore in a conference call two weeks ago (my outlet store is in the same district as Orlando's outlet) Disney Inc. employee's do not get a discount at the stores. Only Disney Store and TCP store employees receive discounts in each other's stores.

And yes, I work for TCP as an asst. manager in an outlet.

I know that many Disney Store CM's were disappointed that they were bought out and lost a lot of park benifits, but TCP is really a great company to work for.

I work at The Disney Store, and I never heard or read an MIB about Walt Disney Company employees not getting a discount with us! Verry interesting!

Well, guess that will be one less store I need to visit while at the mall. More to spend at the Mothership!:)

Nancy, I hadn't heard this either. I would think it would be on the portal, as they have posted everything else on the portal in regard to TDS.

I re-read the post from Kelly, and it appears she is a SM for TCP not TDS. I didn't think TDS had any outlets yet. We, TWDC CM, have never gotten a discount at the children's place, only TDS.
