We've FALLen for WDW...An October 2010 PTR! New 10/14 TR Link Added

I am so jealous of all of you F&W goers! All of those dishes sound amazing! And the drinks too. ;) I have got to figure out a way to do a F&W weekend next year!

Oh, and I read your post about the dessert party and I say do it! The fact that you get to try all of the desserts and have the special seating for Illuminations would definitely make it worth it! :thumbsup2

Food & Wine Festival 2010
DH and I are very excited to be going to WDW during the Food & Wine Festival. We really enjoy going to the Taste of Chicago each summer and this will (hopefully) be an even better experience than that. (Just a few reasons why I believe F&WF will be incomparably better than the Taste: said Taste is very crowded and filled with a lot rude people. The only restrooms are mobile toilets-YUCK! They have very limited seating as well.) **FYI: I took pictures at the Taste solely for posting on here and I even had DH transfer them to my computer but I can't find them on my computer and I deleted them from my phone. :(**

Disney Food Blog posted the menus for the booths and I quickly began writing all of the yummy deliciousness that I would like to devour this October. I had been searching the boards for pictures for some time and I even have a word document saved with pictures. I actually am quite disappointed that a few things I was looking forward to try don't seem to be on the menu. These items include but are not limited to: Cannelloni from Italy (I believe it has been replaced by Ravioli), Ham Croquettes from Puerto Rico, and Praline Pecan Bread Pudding from New Orleans-in fact New Orleans is not even listed as a booth this year.

Enough of that devastation. (Really, I'll get over it!) On to the important information: the food we're actually going to consume! (It's completely acceptable if you begin to salivate as a result of reading this list-my stomach was all but growling when I made it!)

Argentina:
Roasted Corn & Cheese Empanada
Beef Skewer with Chimichurri Sauce and Boniato Puree

Belgium:
Waffle with Berry Compote & Whipped Cream
Godiva Chocolate Iced Coffee

Charcuterie & Cheese:
Cheese Fondue with Croutons & Roasted Potatoes

France:
Braised Short Ribs in Cabernet with Mashed Potatoes
Creme Brulee au Chocolate

Germany:
Spatzle Gratin with Ham & Cheese

Greece:
Greek Salad with Pita Bread
Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki Sauce

Ireland:
Warm Chocolate Lava Cake with Bailey's Irish Cream

Morroco:
Baklava
Falafel Pita Pocket

New Zealand:
Lamb Slider with Tomato Chutney

Poland:
Kielbasa and Potato Pierogi

South Korea:
Lettuce Wraps with Roast Pork & Kimchi Slaw

Spain:
Serrano Ham, Chorizo, Manchengo, Olives & Tomato Bread

It is a good thing we are scheduled to visit the Food & Wine Festival twice for dinner during our trip because there is a very good chance I would get sick from eating all of this deliciousness in one evening! I'm thinking DH and I will share many of the items our first time and then our second time we will each have our favorites.

Well, there you have it folks...HOLD UP! I almost forgot! (Really I didn't I just wanted to intentionally regain your interest. Did it work? I didn't think so either.)

There are quite a few alcoholic beverages that spark my interest. Not to worry I will not consume all of these in one trip around the booths, or will I? ;)

Argentina:
Bodega Norton Reserva Malbec

Charcuterie & Cheese:
Ace Joker Hard Cider

France:
Sparkling Pomegranate Kir

Mexico:
Passion Fruit Margarita

Morocco:
Sangria

Hello! It's nice to meet you! I'm also from Chicago (actually in the city, though), so it's nice to meet another Chicago-area Diser! I'm actually headed down to WDW about two weeks after you are :lmao: Your plans look awesome, and I hope you have a good time!

I agree with you about the Taste vs F&W, though. I hate going to the Taste because of how insanely crowded it is, and the lack of decent facilities. When I was explaining the F&W to my family, the easiest way to do it was as 'a fancier Taste'.

That Vegas story is so funny. Sorry you didn't get the room you wanted, but glad you made the most of it.

That dessert thing at F&W sounds awesome!

Thanks! I am hoping to get at least a mini TR on here sometime but we'll see if that actually ends up happening.

I'm loving the sound of that dessert event!
Absolutely worth the cost- not a bad price at all!

I don't think the price is bad, either. The cheese one I was semi-interested in was $75.00 per person, no thanks!

That Dessert Party does sound cool doesn't it, esp the 3D part as well :teeth:

Yikes about the Vegas problem, but you are right, it would happen at WDW.

Yeah what is the 3D part? I didn't read anything in the description about it but maybe I just missed it.

The dessert party sounds great.

I'm sorry about the room issue in Vegas. That is odd that they offered you a "smoking room." The last time I was in Vegas I still smoked and they had gotten rid of "ALL" smoking rooms and there is a $500 fine at some of the "nicer" hotels in Vegas if you get caught smoking in your room. :confused3

Apparently TI (which definitely is not a "nicer" hotel although the rooms are updated and are actually very nice) still offers smoking rooms.

Looks like your plans are coming together. :goodvibes The Dessert party sounds yummy!

I can't wait, I hope I get tickets for it! :)

You'll go one day! :) I am really looking forward to the special seating for Illumninations, a tree or a person always seems to be blocking a major portion of it every time I have seen it!

Hi! I have some family that lives in the city. It's definitely not for us but sometimes I think to myself how nice it would be to live there. On Friday it took us 30 minutes to get to Ruth's Chris once we got off of 90 like a mile away. (Although, that was b/c of the Transformers filming.)

This year it really made me NOT want to go back to the Taste. We went opening day which was a mistake but we also went on another random weeknight and it was JUST as crowded as the first night if not more. It's impossible to walk. I think a lot of "kids" are using it as their hang out. I wish there was someway to make them not do that, I think it would be a more enjoyable experience for all.

I am excited for an October trip. We've been in late Spring (basically summer) and Winter. I'm excited for a Fall trip!

That is a delicious looking list and its gonna be fun trying everything isn't it? :goodvibes

I got this off of the Disney Food Blog

Paper eyeglasses were distributed to watch the Illuminations, and the lenses made the fireworks look like Mickey heads! It was great seeing the show in a different way. They have similar glasses during the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights over at Hollywood Studios, but those feature angels. We’ll have to bring our Mickey glasses with us this year.

The dessert party sounds awesome! I was thinking about attending but I think we're actually OK with the way our plans are now.

Your F & W Festival list looks similar to mine! I was also disppointed about the Ham & Cheese Croquettes from the PR booth. We really liked those....they also replaced the beef empanadas from Argentina that I was looking forward to, and the Dragonberry Colada from PR. But hey, it's a whole new world of food this year and I'm looking forward to it!

I'm still trying like crazy to get my scrapbook from 2009 finished (that's actually what I'm supposed to be doing right now....:rolleyes1) and then I'm going to start working on my Mousekeeping envelopes!

Yeah, I'm really really glad I don't have to go downtown anytime soon except for one thing on Wednesday. It's cool that they film movies here, but it's such a pain in the neck sometimes.

We did that in high school, so I wouldn't be surprised if teenagers were still doing it. There isn't much else to do in the summer sometimes :lmao:

I'm just excited to go back :yay: :teeth:

Deliciousness! I will get there for the food & wine festival sometime.

It all sounds so good, stuff yourselves silly!

My kids and I love making Mousekeeping envelopes! How do you make yours? We would love some creative ideas for our next trip.

Sweetpea,

Look on page 5 of my PTR and you can take a look at one of my designs for my envelope. :)

It is going to be so fun! Maybe we'll see each other. I have to take a look at your schedule again. :)

I haven't even started my Xmas 2009 scrapbook yet! Please post a picture of your mousekeeping envelopes when you're finished, I would love to see them! :)

It's very cool that you were down there working! My cousin leaves in less than 3 weeks for the CP. I'm so excited for her.

You don't have to tell me twice! :lmao:

That Mousekeeping envelope is the CUTEST thing ever!!!! I need a Cricut right now!! Is that what you used?
Our poor Mousekeepers get regular envelopes with Disney stickers! I love, love, love your idea.

Yes, I used the cricut. :) It was my Christmas present from my in laws last year! But by not using the cricut your kids get to take a bigger part in making the envelopes. :)

The F&W Festival looks great!! I want to eat a Belgian waffle right now!!

I had to go back & look at mousekeeping envelopes again... love them!! I should get started on mine soon! I have a Cricut & those cartridges - we'll see if I can make mine look as good as yours. :rolleyes1

Your mousekeeping envelopes are adorable! :lovestruc I know if I'd gotten one of those when I was a housekeeper, I would've been really amused :) I just printed mine out from mouseforless, though, because I'm so not crafty and I also don't have the money or reason to buy a Cricut. I'm not a scrapbooker :lmao:

I am so happy I designated two evenings to the F&W Fest!

Oh gosh, I am an amateur at my crafting but I enjoy doing it and that's all that matters right? I'm wiped out this evening after spending a couple hours working on a tote bag for my cousin to take with her when she leaves next week for Disney (as a CM!). Those mousekeeping envelopes are on my to-do list for July completion but that's not happening. I probably won't get to them until September. Oops!

Thanks! They actually don't take that long to make. The most tedious part is gluing on the letters. I should get them done in one or two mornings once I am back on my better work schedule.

I'm not going to post this as an update b/c I just really need somewhere to vent and right now, here is sounding pretty good to me!

I am drained. I feel like there are never enough hours in a day to do anything. I work between 40 and 45 hours a week and then I have to cook dinner, clean, and get ready for the next day. By that time it's nearly 7pm and by 9pm, I'm ready for bed. This week in my spare time, I am trying to work on a tote bag for my cousin to take to Disney with her when she leaves next Saturday for the CP. It isn't turning out how I envisioned it and it's too late to go back and redo it now. The sewing machine I have is a pretty low-cost one so it is pretty touchy. I don't even think I'll have enough time to finish it by Saturday when we are having a party to say goodbye to her and for my sister's graduation/birthday. Did I mention that I offered to have the party at my house b/c my mom lives in an apartment? The kids I babysit for are a handful most of the time and I feel like I spend most of my day telling them what NOT to do so by the end of the week my patience is gone and we all need a break! I know that I don't work half as hard as many of you out there but I am definitely not the type of person who likes to go, go, go all the time. I need my down time to scrapbook, sew, or even just watch a movie. However, the end is in sight. In 3.5 weeks the kids will be back in school and I will be back on my normal schedule which is 7am-9am and then 12pm-4pm, with the exception of one day when I will be taking the girls to gymnastics class. I miss my break!

I know that my DH has been feeling pretty defeated as well. He is very unhappy at his job. He's been applying to new jobs almost every day and has only gotten one phone interview which didn't lead to anything. He is already overqualified for the position he has and they keep tacking on more work for him to do but it's just busy work and nothing that gives him a feeling of responsibility. My grandma is right when she says that we need to be thankful that he has a job but I just want to get ahead! We are thinking he will start applying for jobs out of state come November b/c in December he will be graduating with his MBA. I'm frustrated b/c I feel that we both work so hard but don't have the $$ to show for it. I know that the economy is rough and that has a lot to do with the lack of phone calls DH is getting but I feel like we will never be able to take a step toward the future that we want. We are going to need a new car in the next year or two and we definitely can't afford a car payment. We definitely can't even begin to start talking about having a family until we both or at least one of us is making more $$.

Blah! Hopefully I will start to feel better now that I got that rant over. Thanks for "listening".

Just sending you a . I know how you feel....sometimes you never feel like you are going to get ahead. I just keep telling myself things will get better for everyone. Hang in there!

I'll do my best to post this update while Mickey sleeps in this current position...

I canceled our ADR for Narcoossee's and made a new one for The Wave. There were a couple of reasons why I did this. Number one is that we are now only paying for one TS OOP. Number two is that the time works out better for us. With a 730 PM ADR now instead of 845 PM we can head over to MK EMH that night. I am sad that we won't have a signature dining experience in some ways (especially b/c of the almond crusted cheesecake) but The Wave has been getting great reviews and there are a few things on the menu that intrigue me, like the avocado moose that comes with one of the entrees. I also was realistic with how full we would be feeling from eating three full meals a day and decided that DH and I could share some lunches and thus, not have to pay for any CS OOP. Making these minor changes is going to save us nearly $200.

Also, as of right now, I'm not sure that DH and I will be getting massages. :( I'll have a better idea of how much $$ we'll have once the time rolls around that we need to book them (only about 3 weeks out at CSR). I know that downgrading to a value would save us nearly $600 (even with the added $$ to upgrade from QSDP to DDP) but I'm not willing to sacrifice the atmosphere of CSR for something like Pop! on this trip b/c I want a more relaxing time.

On a brighter note, I've been making a list of all of the snacks/drinks I want to try. (Not including FWF.)

@ MK I want to try the...

Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich from MSB.

Raspberry Lemonade Slush from Enchanted Grove.

I've already tried and I want to get again...

Pineapple Dole Whip (no float) from Aloha Isle

@ DHS I want to try the...

Carrot Cake Cookie from the Writer's Stop

I've already tried and I want to get again...

Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar (I always seem to want one in DHS for some reason.)

in DTD I want to try the...

Make Your Own Rice Krispie Treat from Goofy's Candy Co.

@ Epcot I want to try the...

Kaki Gori from said cart in Japan

Grey Goose Slushie from France

I've already tried and I want to get again...

Chocolate Croissant from Boulangerie Patisserie

@ AK I want to try the...

Everest Avalanche from Yak & Yeti Quality Beverages

@ The Poly I want to try the...

Lapu Lapu from Ohana

What are your favorite snacks/drinks????

I've actually never had the raspberry lemonade slush! I'll have to get it this time around :) Does it count as a snack credit?

My favorite snacks are simple - pretzel and cheese, a hot fudge sundae, and a funnel cake with powdered sugar :cloud9: I plan on trying others this trip, though.

I've never had it either and I'm nearly positive it counts as a snack credit. :)

I want to try the funnel cake as well, I'm just not sure we'll get around to it. :confused3 I love funnel cake, though! Yum!
