Minnie56, we had a similar experience on our flight to LA on February 1st. There was a storm the day before but by the time we drove to Buffalo that night to stay over at the Buffalo Airport Sleep Inn, it was fairly quiet on the roads.
Our flight was 6:30am and we headed over about 5am...a little late for my taste but DH thinks I worry too much!

. Well we were greeted by a huge check-in line at SW but it moved fairly quickly and I think it took us about a half hour. Then we headed to the huge Security check-in line. I was getting worried at this point but finally someone came along and pulled several of us out of the line up and directed us downstairs, to another check-in point, where we also had to walk outside.
We got to the gate about 8 minutes before our flight, but SW held the flight for at least 20 minutes, for people still stuck in the Security line. We had a 2 hour transfer in Chicago so weren't really worried.
It was so busy because of all the cancelled flights the day before and I'll certainly remember that, if we find ourself in a similar situation.
When we got back, our car had ice on it, but not as bad as yours from the sound of it. We chipped as much as we could away and headed out. We didn't really have any trouble finding a parking spot at the beginning of the trip, but we were far out in the Longterm A lot!
I did tell DH that although it was a nice break from the cold and snow, I think I'd rather go away closer to spring when there's less winter still to look forward to!
