Anyone traded for the Westin Maui? Any advice?

Anyone traded for the Westin Maui? Any advice?
I've stayed at the hotel and see the property being built. I have an exchange through II for a 1 BR for next Jan but not using DVC. Units are assigned a week or two prior to arrival and members are given first priority. I've been told to expect not to get a good view as an exchanger but that's OK given what I traded in with. I got my exchange in early Jan for 27 Jan 2008. given what I know I'd have to make it the #1 resort over the Marriott due in part to the full kitchen and being purpose built over the hotel conversion.

I was just in Maui- did not stay at the Westin, but their grounds are beautiful- it looks very nice. They were also the only major hotel on Ka'anapali (that I saw) that provided a reasonable amount of public beach access parking spaces. All hotels are required to give beach access for the public since they built their hotels on the beach, blocking locals from getting to the beach- most gave 10-15 spaces, laughable, but the Westin had a whole parking lot with facilities.

We stayed there in December on an Exchange, we got the worst view in the entire resort! Right outside our windows were payloader's and other trucks that like to start at 6:40am... on the bright side, it was in good condition, quite large, and had a nice comfortable bed....

Overall, the unit was very good... but, I'd rather be over at the Maui Marriott due to the location right on the main Kaanapali beach/walkway....

We also did not trade in using DVC, we used something else.... I was just glad to have gotten something nice in Maui :)

If you are interested in staying at the Westin Ka'anapali, you can find quite a few rentals out there. It may be a good idea to rent your DVC points out and use the proceeds to rent a week that you want. What size unit were you looking to rent? I've seen studios starting from $1500, 1 bedrooms from $2000 and 2 bedrooms from $2900+.

If you rent from an owner, you'd probably have a better chance of getting a nice view. Owners can book as early as 12 months out. Those nice ocean views will cost you more than island views (usually).

Another idea may be to do a direct exchange with a Westin Ka'anapali owner.

I know that other timeshare owners have traded in during non-peak times. If you are flexible with your travel dates, then you might have a chance!

It is a lovely resort, and the pool and beach are very nice. There is construction going on next door, and the new sister resort will open in July 2007 with more pools and a nice restaurant (eventually).

Good luck!

We rented a Deluxe Studio from a owner... had a partial ocean view, Feb 05... it was awesome! I pa$1500.00 for prime Whale season. The Studio is so nice, granite counter tops, washer/dryers, heavenly beds, bathrooms that were just wonderful! The shower was huge, jacuzzi tub. It was the best bed that I have EVER slept in. I almost bought it and had one shipped to my house!! PM me if you want the Internet site that I rented from.
