While a regular hotel room may be fine, a studio is not a great value for 134 DVC points in exchange plus the exchange fee and other negatives associated. I'd only list the Marriott, Westin and possibly the Kaanapali Beach Club for Maui using DVC.I came here to ask about doing this actually. We are going to Hawaii in January 2010 and we are starting to look into where, etc.
I did some test online that says Maui is the island for us...based on our answers.
I see several options through DVC/II. Can you tell me how this works?? We would want 7 nights, and a regular hotel room is fine. Must be on the beach...or very close. We are up for renting a car and driving around.
Congrats on your stay coming through. How far in advance can we book?
For Maui you're looking at 160 points most of the year, 134 for a studio. Yes, IMO, those are the only Maui options worthy of this many DVC points. They are not the only options I'd personally stay at, just the only one's I'd pay that much for. I've stayed at all 3 though at the Marriott when it was a hotel, not a timeshare. And I've visited all the resorts on the DVC list except for 2 in South Maui. IF you need a 2 BR though, you may want to do some soul searching as you're unlikely to get it for the resorts I listed.Dean, are you saying those three places are the only ones worth using your DVC points for? I see that the 134 points would get a 1 bedroom unit, am I right about that? I plan to call this week and find out what I need to do.
Congrats, see the benefits of requesting before any units are deposited?quote]
Was quite surprised to see it come through so quickly,,,, can't wait to get back to my old homeland....
Congrats! I just got back from that resort yesterday and loved it. I have tons of pictures... and of Ko'olina area on Ohau as well.
I stayed in a 1br... traded a different timeshare for it... traders generally get a island view, but when I checked in, I asked nicely if there was a ocean view available and was given that room instead!![]()
Let me know if you have any questions or want some pictures!
Chris
Yes and No. Westin can be deposited as early as 12 months out. I'd estimate the majority of deposits for timeshares that don't require you to pay the fee ahead are when one can first reserve. The majority of deposits for those that require you to pay the fee are around the time the fee is due.Was quite surprised to see it come through so quickly,,,, can't wait to get back to my old homeland....
You actually have to go out to the main road and go around to get to the Villas. You can't even walk along the path or even the beach to get from on area to the other. The only way you could walk from the Villas to the main area of Ka'anapali is to either wade the ocean, scale black rock or go down the road across from the Westin timeshare to it's end, walk through the middle of a condo/hotel complex and across to the Royal Lahaina Resort by their Luau.Aren't the villas way down the other end of Kaanapali past the Sheraton? I did not think they were in the same are as the Westin Maui Resort.
