Westgate Lakes Resort & Spa. Anyone know anything about this place?

That's where my aunt, my 4 year old cousin, and I are staying with another family.

Any tips, or advice?

We stayed there about 6 or 7 years ago, so I can only comment on it from the time we were there. It was okay. It wasn't my favorite resort we have stayed at. The rooms are spacious and it had leather couches and a big screen t.v. I thought those were positives. We didn't care for the pool areas. Once again, there were okay, but nothing special about them. The other thing we didn't care for was the 1 restaurant they had on property, that might be different now. We checked in very late (my parents were already there), so we got in around 1am, we were very tired. The front desk staff were not overly friendly. That could have been me too, since I was exhausted and not really in a great mood myself. I think you will be alright. We try and go to a different resort everytime we go. I wouldn't say it was disappointing it was just alright.

It is an OK resort in an OK location with nothing special about it except the propensity for aggressive sales tactics.

It is a group of high rise towers completely out of place in the area with small and inadequate parking areas and a couple pools squeezed in the shadows of the tenement like buildings. The units are large but very pedestrian in design. Nothing much to do on site and everything in the area requires a car as you have to get across I-4 to be on International Drive or drive east or west to get to Universal or Disney.

It is just OK and if the price is right we'd stay there again.

One thing. Avoid the sales pitch. If you are there on a full fare rental or timeshare exchange you do not have to attend and unless you enjoy being tortured shouldn't for the $100 or so in gifts. If you go as part of a discounted presentation package you are obligated to attend but be ready to enforce the 90 minute time frame and never, ever, under any circumstances actually agree to buy. Why? Even if you absolutely LOVE the place (although why that would happen is a mystery to me) you can buy it for 50% or less of what they ask retail on resale. There is zero reason to buy from the resort unless you like supporting timeshare salesman on your dollars.

Bottom line - a nice, big unit. Few amenities. Plan to drive everywhere. Avoid the sales pressure.

Add it up and it's OK.
