I wrote this same question last night, but just as I hit Submit, the site went down for awhile. I have not seen it posted, so I am going to try again. If it does double post, please forgive me.

For those who have already been on the Western Caribbean Magic cruise: How did people dress on the Mexicalifragilistic (sp) night? When I went on the Eastern Caribbean last December, most people dressed on tropical attire on that night. For this January, I am wanting to buy and wear an emroidered Mexican dress to dinner. But I am afraid of looking like a complete fool.

Can someone give me advice on this? I love to go all out for the themed evenings.

Everyone at our table was wearing shorts and tropical shirts as were most people in the dinning room. We did see some of the dresses like you mention as well as sombreros and straw hats. It is a real neat evening with the Mexican band (mariachi?) playing in the atrium.
Of course there were some people who looked like they did not have a clue that it was Mexi-whaterver night.

Have fun!!! We sure did.

To us this was the best menu of the cruise. The stuffed pork loin was excellent.

We all wore tropical attire. I had a long Hawaiian type dress. Everyone seemed to have some type of loud, colorful attire. Every dining room has leis on the table for you. It was a lot of fun--the waiters in Parrot Cay do a show for you and we all ended up dancing around doing the limbo. I did not see anyone with shorts on in the dining room though as was previously posted.

Hi Lady. On our cruise a majority of guests wore tropical attire. One of the women at our table wore a Mexican dress as you described. She was ravishing! - and I am sure you will be the same.

Are you worrying about standing out from the crowd? Don't, for heaven's sake. I bought my son and I "electric shirts" before the cruise especially to wear on Mexicalifraglistic night. The shirts were not electric in the sense of a bright color scheme or glow-in-the dark. No. These black t-shirts sported a hidden battery pack attached to a flashing adornment and provided for several speeds at which the adornments lit up. Mine was a space ship and my son's was an alien. I am a bit on the shy side and my son takes shyness to a higher level. Our server, Rishi, grabbed both my son and I and encouraged us to dance along with the rest of the servers and assistant servers in the aisles. All of us had a blast. And afterwards many people on the Magic asked us about the shirts. Ah, my 15 minutes of fame!

So go out and buy that embroidered Mexican dress. Hopefully, your server will dance with you in the aisle...

Thanks, Buckaroo's Dad.

That is the kind of answer I was looking for. Actually, I would probably just wear the dress anyway. But I have a 20 year old daughter and she will definitely have to be talked into dong this. So I hope others are wearing them, too.

Definitely wear the dress. The majority are wearing the tropical dresses. I saw quite a few families all wearing the same tropical print (mens/boys shirts and mother, daughter dresses). You won't feel foolish at all.

Happy planning!

Yes, I know about the tropical print dresses and shirts. But I was wondering specifically about Mexican dresses.

LadyLt...

I saw a few people in Mexican dresses on our 8/3/02 cruise. I overhead them say they bought them in town that day. You will see the majority of the ship dresses up and gets into the action.

The Mexicali night is great. It is a solid two hours of deck party fun!!!! The characters come out dressed as well as the cruise staff and some of the main stage performers also come out and perform. Two for one margaritas as well!!!!

When are you sailing??? We had very hot, humid weather that night. I was wondering if the winter months were dryer in Cozumel.

We are sailing Jan. 18th - 25th, 2003. So the weather should be really nice. I did the Eastern Caribbean last December and the island weather was wonderful. Shorts and t-shirts for excursions were perfect.

We did have a few cool nights on deck. That was primarily due to the breezes as the ship moved at night. So this year, I have bought a velvet evening wrap for after dinner.

Sounds wonderful!!!! I am trying to squeez a January cruise in if I can swing it. Guess I have to make up my mind pretty soon!!!

LadyLt - go for it! I have a wonderful gown that was made in Mexico and I wore for my senior prom. The handwork on it is amazing - all whites & pinks. No way will it fit me any more (that was 25 years and 2 children ago!) but having read your post I may pull it out of the cedar chest and see if DD wants to wear it, would be perfect on her!

Renee - Love the wedding pic! And the idea of everyone in matching prints is intriguing. Have to think about whether or not I'd have time for that project.:(
