I don't know if it's against the new rules to say so, but I think people should be able to protect their country regardless of their sexual orientation. That many people being kicked out of the military....they're losing soldiers that way. 65,000 of them.
So silly.
But a cool article!!

Feels like something is in the water lately.
Maine is on the verge of legalizing gay marriage too.

Did someone put something in the kool-aid?

Well, you know Maine used to BE part of Massachusetts, right? It only makes sense that they follow our example ;)

I served my country and what was quoted in the article is disgusting. An officer should not lie to his/her superiors. It is dishonorable no matter what is at stake. Any moral person should not celebrate lying, even if they disagree with a policy. What would Ghandi do?

It is disgusting. Disgusting that someone would have to lie about something that is no one else's business, solely to be allowed to serve their country.

If you are going to talk about disgusting things, get it from the right perspective. This country's continued homophobic practices, polices and procedures is what is disgusting.

I am commenting on the article itself. As an officer you take an oath and along with that oath comes a set of expected behaviors and lying is not one of them. As an officer one should never lie to his/her superiors. The chain of command exists to save the lives of your fellow soldiers and ensure that they are mission ready.

When you go to West Point the taxpayers are investing thousands of dollars to your education and the least you could do is serve honorably.

As to your quote, the lowest form of argument is the ad hominem attack. Before you name call you should analyze what you are saying. Just because some does not agree with you they are not afraid of you or your behaviors. They may not like what you do. It is as simple as that. I wish you the best of luck in accepting diversity of opinion.

Just a friendly reminder....

The Dis no longer accepts debates.

If this post turns into a debate it will be closed.

If you visit this area, you must understand, current topics concerning the Gay community will be discussed in a positive aspect, they will not be debated.

Thanks for understanding.

I stand by my comments. No debate necessary. Thanks O'Mike.

Diversity of opinion is not a cheap excuse to bash anyone. Diversity means that all are accepted.

"It's not lying if they make you." :snooty:

Oh an perhaps the actual meaning of ad hominem is not clear to you. There is fault with the defense given for the argument that forcing someone to lie in order for the person to continue to serve their country.

Do no assume that because your position (like many) which locked in the moral phase of law and order is valid or ethical in the purest sense.

I find it disgusting and completely offensive that anyone would defend a system that forces people to lie.

Enough. This is clearly one of those sorts of threads (or has degenerated to one) that is no longer welcome on the DIS.

If laws are not based upon morality, then what is their basis? Also if diversity is your claim to acceptance they why not accept others that may not agree with you? I have not attacked you or called you a name and an ad hominem attack is just that. (even wikipedia got this one right) You called the US "homophobes", not I. I stated that taking an oath and then braking that oath when it is convenient to you is dishonorable. It is even more so when the taxpayers have doled out thousands of dollars to support you. When you join the military you understand that homosexuality is not an accepted lifestyle and shold adhere to the rules. If we as a society only follow those rules that are convenient to ourselves, then there would be alot less "tolerance" for everyone. According to the Mod in an earlier post in this thread...discussing the news is ok.

Ghandi would welcome discourse with those who disagreeded with them and not call others names when his arguments are faulted. He would still wear the diaper.

Nice reply! ;)

First I'm gonna lock this thread. The story got out, thats all we need to know. Thanks to the OP for the post!

Second, I dont make the rules, I only enforce them, so no debate please..

Danielmorgan03, you seem to have a problem with the views on this board, I would suggest you not post here anymore.

Thanks!
