When did you find out your cruise was getting cancelled and did you receive a full refund or just credit towards another cruise?

We're on the 2nd cruise post dry dock for the Wonder and I'm wondering if I should start working on a plan B Thanksgiving trip!!

Thanks!

I was not on the Magic after it's 2013 dry dock but I found this USA Today article titled "Return of Disney Magic postponed due to weather". It's about the cancelation of the first cruise after the Magic came out of dry dock in 2013. They said " Passengers on the canceled sailing will receive a full refund as well as reimbursement of airline change fees. In addition, passengers also are being offered a complimentary sailing on the Disney Magic between now and May, 2014. Alternately, passengers can choose a 35% discount on any future Disney cruise in the Bahamas or Caribbean, taken within two years and excluding holiday sail dates." I would post the link for the article but i'm new to the DISboards and i'm not sure if I am allowed to post links to external web sites.

WOW..that would actually make me HOPE for a cancellation. LOL

Thank you!!! Ha! I was thinking the same thing!!

Although if it happens to us, it's not going to be a fun day explaining to my kids why we can't go on Mickey's cruise ship for Thanksgiving!

I had a reservation on that cruise. We only got 3 days notice! Not fun when your bags are packed and within minutes of leaving home. I actually heard about the cancellation from jumping on the DIS one more time waiting for my husband to get home from work. If I had still been packing we would have not known before we left home.

I was not happy! It's not really fun to have been anticipating a double dip cruise and find out that you now have no where to go on your vacation that you've packed for. We had pre and post vacation plans, one of which was non-refundable.

You might think it's fun till it happens to you

That is so frustrating!

We are driving to Galveston but I will definitely be paying attention to the boards the days before we are set to l leave.

With us the trouble would be the time off. We booked the black Friday cruise so we would have the holiday Thursday and Friday and not have to use extra vacation days at work. If ours is canceled I think our plan B would be to take the Dec. 30th cruise if its not sold out.

Here's a copy of the letter sent regarding the compensation, posted on the wonderful resource, disneycruiselineblog.com

That's over two full weeks after the first cruise after dry dock, November 10, you should be okay. (We're on that same one.)

We're on the 2nd cruise that leaves the 18th. We would have to wait until the summer to reschedule because my kids are in school.

I'm hopeful that we will be just fine!

I would imagine Disney would not make the same mistake twice. You should be fine but keep in touch with the Disboards up to the last minute :disrocks:

I don't think inclement weather which puts a dry dock behind schedule can really be considered a mistake. Dry docks aren't scheduled with a multi-day cushion because it costs a lot of money to have a ship in dry dock. Inclement weather is an unfortunate incident, but it's not a mistake.

If I were to have a cruise canceled at the last minute, I would hope it would be in Florida instead of Galveston. At least you have Universal and the World within a relatively short drive if you miss a boat in Miami or Port Canaveral. Galveston? Not much to do for a week or more.

I think relying on the TA to finish up dry dock details to be the mistake. I don't think they will rely on that time to finish major areas that would cause cancellation of cruises if not able to finish, whether due to weather or time management.

Plus, we had absolutely no desire to spend our time in the parks. Our vacation was to be 2 days on Castaway Cay. The parks are a poor substitution.

Just a note that there is never a guarantee they can dock at Castaway - especially the smaller ships.

I know, I know. You still would have been on the ship.

I'm just saying that in response to your saying the vacation was all about the 2 days on Castaway. Even if the cruise had sailed, there is no guarantee she would have made both days.

Absolutely, I know that is an issue. I was just responding to Phinz's remark that being stuck in Florida is better than being stuck in Galveston.

When the cruise was canceled, a few days in the park weren't going to be a happy substitute. We were looking forward to the beach.

Don't worry. We just got off the Wonder. We were told that they learned their lesson from the Magic's dry dock debacle. That was really awful. Some people didn't find out until they had already landed at the airport!

This time around they added a lot of cushion time before guests are scheduled to sail. They even plan to have one or two mini cruises for employees and their families to use as a "test run" before actual guests arrive. They plan to really work out all the kinks before the big reveal. It sounds like it is going to be amazing. Have a wonderful trip!

I still contend that being stuck in Florida (they actually do have beaches with relatively nice water) is better than being stuck in Galveston. I grew up surfing in Galveston. Their beaches ain't all that.

When life gives you lemons and all that jazz.

I will agree that I would prefer Florida beaches to Galveston beaches any day of the week!
