Were you ever disappointed not to get an ADR and it turns out that was a good thing?

This past August when my family and I were at WDW just for fun we asked to see if there was any ADR's available for dinner at Cape May Cafe no matter the date or time, even though it was during Free Dining and chances were they would say non were available. Well I was right because they told us it was sold out. Anyway this past December when we were visiting the Beach Club we wanted to see the inside of Cape May and asked the host at the entrance if we could walk around and he said go right ahead. Anyway after seeing their food offerings and etc we didn't really like it that much and said to ourselves it was a good thing there wasn't an ADR there a few months before, because chances are we wouldn't have enjoyed ourselves and no one wants to have a bad meal at WDW.

So my question is have you ever been told that an ADR is not available for a specific restaurant and later on it turned out to be a good thing that you never ended up eating there?

Cape May was our big disappointment last summer also. I was deeply disapointed with the selection of seafood offered. I expected more types of fish like sword, flounder or even some type of exotic fish, scollops and calamari. We could have gone to our local Red Lobster and gotten what they were offering that day and cheaper.

Yes, on our last trip we really wanted to get a reservation for Le Cellier, but couldn't ... ironically, during the week we heard a lot of people actually complaining about how disappointed they were with their meals there ... so after hearing their reviews, I was actually relieved that we didn't have a reservation ... :)

Well ours was a little twist to your question.

This past Dec. we had an adr for Shulas. We got there late and the hostess said they gave our table away since we were 10 minutes late. She said the wait was about 2 hours.

We were deciding whether to stay or go. We stayed since I promised dh this for holding my hand when I was in the coma for 2 days.

Turns out it was good we didnt leave, we ended up being seated at the table right next to Hank Aaron. It was during the baseball winter meetings.

we've had plenty of times where we wanted to get X restaurant but couldn't and instead got Y and found out that Y was so yum that it got added to our new favorites list. So I generally try to be ok with however our ADRs turn out as I'm always happily surprised. I think the food in WDW has gotten considerably better than it used to be.

Back in Aug I tried to get a reservation for Le Cellier. I have always wanted to eat there. I never got the reservation and ended up eating at Coral Reef. I loved Coral Reef. I still want to eat at Le Cellier, but I have Coral Reef to look forward too next time I go.:)

My DS and I went on a girls only trip and decided to try to get into Jiko at the last minute. We couldn't get in, of course, so went to Sanaa instead. YUMMY!
