Hi all,
We did make it to New York! It wasn't without its issues at the airport, though - we got there almost 4 hours before the flight to be told that, because we hadn't checked in online (as far as I know, not possible on a codeshare) we might be bumped off our flight because the previous one was overbooked and they had had to bump passengers from that one! We were not impressed, as you can imagine and told them so very politely, so they gave us vouchers for free food and drink and told us we would have to come back at the desk at 3 (one hour before the flight) to find out what was happening. So we were hanging around in the terminal and, after an hour, Carl went to have a quiet word with someone about how I was in "floods of tears" (an exaggeration, but hey!) and they said to come back at 2. At this time we were given our boarding cards and allowed to go through to airside, so we at least got a little time to look around etc. When we got to the gate, a lady offered to swap her seat for mine so Carl and I could sit together. Felt a bit guilty when I found out we then were in bulkhead seats, but enjoyed the flight none the less,
We took the Super Shuttle from JFK to the hotel (Morgans, Madison Ave between 37th and 38th Streets), which is lovely. The staff are so helpful and friendly. Didn't get there til gone 9, so just walked across to Planet Hollywood to pick up our New York passes, then came back and went to bed. We had planned t do Empire State Building, but the stresses of earlier in the day had worn us out!
I will fo a proper trippie later but in a nutshell this was Friday and Saturday:
Friday - Up at 6am, then to Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Wall Street, Ground Zero, Century 21, City Hall Park then How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and dinner at Planet Hollywood (sloooooooow service!).
Saturday - Metropolitan Museum of Art (including amazing Alexander McQueen exhibit, and Roof Garden), Central Park TV and Movie Walking Tour, American Museum of Natural History, Catch Me If You Can the Musical, and dinner at Hard Rock Cafe.
Just finishing up our breakfast now, then off to the Lower East Side, including the Tenement Museum, lunch at Katz's Deli, Washington Square Park, and a quick peek inside the Flat Iron Building. We finish the day with Zarkana by Cirque du Soleil at Radio City Music Hall
Have a great day everyone
