Ok, so we are gonna try camping next January at the Fort for vacation. I would love love love some input on this from all of you FW Vets! Here's the lowdown:

1. We Amtrak down. So any advice on getting our gear down or renting from FW would be appreciated.

2. Kids will be 8,6, and 4. Can we DDP from the Fort? if so, does it have to be a package? We got great ticket deals from the YES Program this year, saved us about $600.

3. We will probably bring a heater of some sort, but am hoping that we won't need a fan? Can anyone suggest one appliance that is both? We get cranky over 80 degrees (hence January!)

4. I wanna do the fun Fort decor stuff! But haven't visited the loops, what's the best site for tent camping? I want to have one big tent and then one screenhouse.

THANKS YA'LL!!!!!

contact stacktester or bigdaddyrog. both know of good places to rent either a pop up camper or a fifth wheel. have fun!

I noticed on my last two trips in 2009, August & November, that there were what appeared to be several rental tents set up in the 2000 loop. Many were vacant but they were of the expedition type tents.

You can call Ft. Wilderness at 407-824-2900 and check with them.

We saw one of the Disney rental tents in November. Latest info posted to AllEars says they're $30/night to rent (on top of the site fee)

Having done the Jan thing now like 5 or so times one thing you have to remember is you have to pack for both summer and winter since things can change so much .... like a 40 deg swing in only day or two. Three days ago we were in gloves and coats and yesterday shorts and T-shirts. With all the little ones that's going to present some challenges.

Wal-Mart carries a "locking trunk locker" in the automotive section that is perfect for carrying gear down by plane. I have no idea what limits there are for train travel.

Yes, you can purchase DDP if you stay at the Fort. It does have to be a package, but you can get just a 1-day ticket for each person, and then use that ticket at a later time, then get whatever discounts you like on other ticket media.

A lot of the newer heaters are both a combination heater/fan. You will NEED a fan. Even in the cold weather, Florida has this thing called humidity. You need to open the windows in your tent during the daytime and run that fan to help keep the humidity down.

Loop 1500 and 2000 are the partial hookup loops. They have water, electric, and cable, but no sewer. Most sites in 1500 will accomodate your stuff, and it is very close to all the action. All of the sites in Loop 2000 will accomodate your stuff, but it is kindof isolated. There is a thread on here that is a pictorial comparison of 1500 and 2000. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2083091

THANKS YA'LL!!!!!

I hope this helps!!
