I'm taking my first graders to the local aquarium and then to eat lunch at Spaghetti Warehouse. We've been studying ocean creatures and such, so this should be a neat experience.
Now, for anyone out there who's been on a school field trip, here's some fun information about today's trip:
We have 92 parent volunteers going.
Yep, that's right---92 parents for 141 first graders.
I love parent involvement at this age!Don't get me wrong--I think it's great! That's a lot of people to coordinate and guess who they come to when something goes wrong?
I just hope everyone (meaning the parents:rolleyes: ) can get along and be on time!
Should be fun!:Pinkbounc
I'll let you know how it goes!

Wow, thats a lot of parents!

In 6th grade, we have had zero parents on any of our field trips.

We have 107 students and seven adults.

Consider yourself blessed!

Have fun! :) I can understand why that many parents would want to go with their first graders. DS9 and the entire 3rd grade class - not sure how many kids - are off on a field trip today. Beautiful day for it and good thing since it is mostly outdoors (Sturbridge Village in MA) DS is complaining loud and clear that he does not want to go so this morning should be interseting. sigh.

Say hi to Bruce the shark! :)

Wow!!! Our elementary school limits the number of parents that can go. I think they had to do that in the younger grades because of so many people volunteering. I've been on about 4-5 field trips with my kids over the years. This year, I'm going to cover 2 of them within about 2 weeks of each other. I'm going with my DS's 5th grade class to the Smithsonian Museum of American Art (something like that), cause I dearly love his art teacher, and she asked me to go.

I'm also going with DD and the 6th graders to a Bowie Baysocks game that's offered to the most improved students for the year. DD's had a rough year, so I was very proud that she was able to go. It will be interesting to see how many of the 6th grade parents are going. They're providing the tickets and the transportation at no cost even for parents, so that won't be a reason to miss it.

Wow, that's a lot of parents. ::yes::

Yikes, Jill, what a group that is!!!! And guess that answers part of my other question, you are still in school, LOL.
Enjoy the day.:fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish:

I think that's a compliment. My sister said no one but her shows up at my nieces class outings, because none of the parents like the teacher. Those parents must looove you.

Wow, that is a lot of parents. I always volunteer when DD (pre-k) has a trip. DH and I won't let her go unless one of us can go. Even at the age though we never have that many parents. Her school has a set number of chaperones that will be covered cost wise and any other parents that want to come along need to use their own transportation and pay admission etc. We usually have a 3 to 1 ratio on field trips. I bet you needed another bus to handle that crowd.

Only 91 will be returning with you. One will be arrested at the aquarium for jumping into a tank and wrestling the nurse sharks.

Miss Cleo,
How did you know?
:p
Really though, we did have one parent nearly get into a fight with the aquarium attendants because the parent was trying to smuggle in food--no food allowed!
All in all, it was a perfect trip!
No one got sick, the parents all got along, and no children lost!
Half of the kids fell asleep on the bus ride home--the true sign of a successful field trip!
Thanks for the good thoughts. They worked!
