We're doing both POR and POP--your thoughts?

We've had POP reserved for Nov 27-Dec 5 for a while now. We wanted to add a day, Nov 26, onto the reservation when we found out dh's military leave would allow us to leave earlier than planned. Several calls to reservations showed POP and all other values completely booked, and the moderates out of our price range. Yesterday I tried one more time. This CM must've been sprinkled with tons of pixie dust b/c she found us a military rate at POR of $79! So, I had her add the 26th onto our stay. We'll spend the one night at POR and then move to POP the other 8 days.

The problem is now I'm reading so many great things about POR that I'm wishing we could stay there the entire time, but that's out of our price range for that many days. We could handle a few nights at the POR rate, and the rest at POP, but we can't do all of it at POR. It's just more than this military family can afford.

So, would you do a mid vacation resort switch after 3 or 4 days? I recall reading one person's post that she did that and it never felt like she was able to settle in at either place.

Pros? Cons? Advice? Recommendations? THANKS!

Just staying one night at POR and then switching won't be too bad. You won't have time to get used to it. If you stayed 3 or 4 nights at POR then switched to Pop it could be a shock. I would want to go back to POR.
YMMV and others will tell you they prefer Pop to the Mods.

My hubby and I honeymooned at POR, and then took our next trip and stayed at POP. I have to say that I liked POP better. It just seemed more Disney to me. Don't get me wrong, POR was wonderful, but just seemed like a resort more than a DISNEY resort. I think you'll have a great time at both places, and agree with the previous poster in saying I think you'll be happier with the resort change how you have it now, rather than doing a change after 3 or 4 days. I think that would make you never feel settled, like you suggested.

kandmwedding-sent you a pm a while back-did you receive it?

Both resorts are great, I have stayed in one of them and visited the other! Go have a good trip, don't worry about anything, enjoy yourself. I have only stayed at POP and liked it more then the Grand Floridian, so yea POP (in my opinion that is) is a wonderful hotel! I'd rather save $100's of dollars staying at POP considering we stay in the room to sleep and that's it.

I would recommend staying at a moderate for any length of time and moving to a value. It would be a big let-down for me. Plus, it makes it harder to justify refillable mugs. I would keep your current reservation, but maybe continue to call and see if you can get into POP for your first night so you don't have to move.

FWIW, I stayed at POP and POFQ and loved them both.

I think it's best to go with the value resort first and then the moderate, but I don't think it's a big deal to do it the other way around. Maybe three nights at POR and then the rest at Pop.

For my trip I'm staying 4 nights at POR, 7 nights at an offsite timeshare, and then 2 nights at Pop. Just the way it worked out. I haven't stayed at POR before, but I have stayed at other moderates and I have stayed at Pop before so I know what to expect.
