The first trip we took to WDW, I had no clue there was even hidden Mickey's. I would love to buy the book, so I could keep an eye out for them. This sounds like alot of fun!!!!!

It's by Steven (or maybe Stephen) Barrett, and I bought it on Barnes and Noble's website. Another poster found it at a Borders bookstore. Can't wait for it to arrive, they said it was in stock and would be shipped in 2-3 days!!

Anne60,
Once it gets to you, can post a little report on it? I saw it but not sure if I want to get it or not. Just a little blurb about what it is like would be fine.

Thanks!

will do - it was shipped today, so I hope to see it in the next 4-5 days!

I ordered mine from the Barnes and Noble bookstore. Should have it by Tuesday.
My daughter (who is 6) and I are going in May for a week -just the two of us and we love looking for Hidden Mickeys. She usually finds more than I do so I am hoping that the book will help me keep up with her. :) She says that she doesn't want to know what the book says because that would be cheating and she likes finding them on her own. :)

vicnmickey,

The "Hidden Mickeys" book is scheduled for general release to bookstores in early April. It sounds like the major bookstores may have them available now from their websites. The publisher may have the book available from their website: intrepidtraveler.com. The above offerings are possible because the printer had some advance copies made.

The book is organized into six different scavenger hunts for Hidden Mickeys: one for each major theme park, one for the resort hotels, and one for the rest of WDW. Each scavenger hunt has "Clues" to find the HM's in a challenging but efficient way and "Hints" to find each HM if you need more help. For example, to find all the HM's on Test Track on one ride would take some preparation and luck, so I would look at the Hints for each one so I maybe could catch them all. Otherwise, you might have to do Test Track a few times to spot all the HM's.

Hidden Mickeys also change. The Space Mountain HM's were in the preshow newsreel on the overhead monitors at the loading dock waiting queue. I was there a few weeks ago, and the monitors were gone! I e-mailed Disney, and they replied and told me the monitors would probably not be replaced. But you never know with Disney!

Thanks for asking, Steve

I will keep an eye out for it, the beginning of April. Steve what a great idea for some additional fun at WDW. How long did it take you to gather all the info for the book? If the Hidden Mickeys are changing all the time, you will have to keep it updated:> Kinda like the passporter.

Happy Mickey Hunting!!!!!

vicnmickey,

It took me about six months and many trips to WDW (I loved every minute!) to verify and describe Hidden Mickey sightings. I'm lucky; I live about 40 minutes north of WDW. I gathered almost 400 WDW Hidden Mickeys (all I could find) for the book. My wife, son, and neighbors debated about many of them. Some of them are stretches, if you're strict about what is a Hidden Mickey. WDW has an "official" list, but it's sketchy and incomplete. The extensive hiddenmickeys.org website (really fun to visit) has hundreds (probably thousands) of sightings, but I thought many of the postings were "wishful thinking". My son found two and my neighbor found one HM (and I've found a few) that hadn't been described anywhere. The game is great fun! I organized the scavenger hunts along the lines of the touring plans I developed for my other Disney book, so that you can follow a plan and find a great number of HM's in an efficient manner, with minimal waste of time. My publisher will keep a web address to post changes, lost HM's, and new HM's (at www.intrepidtraveler.com). I've already submitted two changes that will be posted later: the Space Mountain lost HM's that I mentioned before and the currently lost HM in the cables on the floor of the preshow before the ride at Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. (If you read this, Disney, I hope some nice cast member will put the cable Mickey back!)

Happy Hunting!

Steve

Last summer. DD had to have here AP redone at Guest Services Epcot. The CM behind the counter asked her a trivia question and she got it right. He handed her a Hidden Mickey paper for Epcot. I wonder if all the parks have those sheets? We have also received one at the WL. Look forward to purchasing your book Stephen.:)

madcoco,

Some cast members have access to sheets of paper with Hidden Mickey listings. The papers I've seen are copies of the "official" WDW Hidden Mickey list. These HM's are sometimes not described all that well, and the WDW list is incomplete anyway. Remember, no one has kept any official list of Imagineer placed Hidden Mickeys. The Wilderness Lodge and the Animal Kingdom Lodge have their own Hidden Mickey hunts on paper; these are games that have vague, poetic hints about the HM's in their resorts. The hunts are fun, but you usually have to ask a cast member for help at times while playing the game.

Steve, I ordered you book on passporter.com last night I can't wait to receive it. My 2ds love to find HM so I think the scavenger hunts will be great fun for them. We are also taking ourr dear friends, who have never been to WDW, with us I think the HM will help show them the extra magic of WDW. Thanks for writing the book!!

I just saw the Hidden Mickey book at Borders in Maryland on Friday -- March 14th. So, it's already out there.

Steve I just wanted to tell you how much we like the book. I had seen a copy from another Diser that was able to do the hunt with you in December and had to order one for my 10 yo DD. We had a Disney list that my daughter used but as you said it was vague and not easy to use. Now we just have to wait until July to use it. Thanks for putting it all together.

Yep, the book is out because we bought one Sat. at Border's (the last one on the shelf)

Nicely done Steven, we can't wait to get down there and put it to good use

Thanks for the nice comments! I'll start checking my local bookstores to see if the book has arrived in Orlando. Before you go to WDW, check the publisher's website (www.intrepidtraveler.com or www.theotherorlando.com) for any updates or changes, so you won't waste time chasing after lost HM's. And if you see some new HM's, please let me know at the publisher's website! By the way, I have a bald head with a floppy Disney hat; so if you see me at WDW, be sure and say hello.

We will be going in May and can't wait to to start finding the hidden mickeys. I really like the size of the book it will be easy to get in and out of my bag and easy to carry.
I just can't wait to get there. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
