...and I've been drooling over this baby ever since.

(Not the picture of the actual unit we saw, but close enough)
Newmar Canyon Star 3920

It's a Class A toy hauler with a 10' garage (big enough for a golf cart) and master bedroom. My wife & I are trying to figure out if we want to go further into debt and upgrade to this bad boy.

Sorry, but I just had to share...

Is that a gasser? I'm not sure I would want an almost 40' gas model. Definitely drive it first and see if the RV dealer would load a golf cart in the back so you get a true feel of what it would be like. Take it both on an interstate and an area that you can make lots of turns. That long of a coach on a gas chassis will have a lot of swing in the back.

Gorgeous! :thumbsup2

It is, isn't it. It's driving me crazy.

True, but I have a 35' gasser now and I tow our Expedition EL behind it. Length doesn't scare me. ;)

Oh, that is beautiful. Love it! I can't wait for the RV show to come to town so we can drool!

Let us know what you decide!

Towing a vehicle behind the MH isn't the problem. Look at how much coach is behind that rear axle. That's the problem. 35' on a gas chassis is ideal, but anything more than 37' can be real squirrely to handle.

Nice looking and Newmar is a well respected name, but some things about it do raise an eyebrow. I would want to load up the back and drive it at highway speeds. Let some tractor trailers pass you. And it would be even better if it is a windy day.

I have to respectfully disagree. Look at the picture, the wheel base is very long and I'd bet the chassis is the largest gas chassis, either Workhorse or Ford builds which can take the weight. :thumbsup2

If the wheel base were shorter, then I'd agree with you. Knowing Newmar's reputation for outstanding designs and quality in building, I think this unit will serve it's intended purpose well.

OP needs to test drive one to see if he's comfortable with driving it. ;)

Best Regards!

It's on the Ford 26K chassis with the 22" wheels and everything. It's a real beauty inside & out. Lots of attention to detail you don't see on others in this price range. Before I sign, I would definitely drive it first with a 1000 pounds or so in the garage and my toad behind it. I'm really curious if it's any quieter than mine with those 3" walls and double pane windows.

I've been emailing back and forth with the dealer and talking trade and all that and they got the payment in the range I can deal with, but they want a bigger down payment then I care for. Now they really got me thinking, darn it! :)

It's pretty, but I'm of the mindset that it's best to not go into debt unless it's a must (even if you can easily afford it). Sounds like you already have a really nice MH.

Why go further into debt for a different one? :confused3

No disagreeing...just adding your opinion which is what the OP is looking for. We owned a Newmar back in the day when they had the longest warranty of any MH manufacturer - and - they stood behind their product. The company is managed by new people, and they no longer have the 3 year, bumper to bumper warranty that they were known for. I think now it's a 1 year - like every other manufacturer. No doubt their cabinetry is the best in the industry.

DH agrees with your statement.

OP
Good luck on your decision.

Our current motorhome will technically sleep up to 6, but realistically, it's made to accommodate 4, maybe 5 people tops. When we bought it, DS was only 5 and DD was only 2-1/2. Now DS is 11 (and pushing 120 pounds, he's big boy), DD is 8-1/2 and we added another DS that is now 3-1/2. We're starting to outgrow it a little. This Canyon Star would be a real nice luxury that would be plenty big enough for us for many years. It has 2 queens in the garage portion as well as a queen in the master and the usual pull out couch and convertible dinette. It would allow us to not have to convert the dinette & couch to beds at night if we didn't want to. Plus, the kids can play their video games in the garage while my wife & I get the rest of the coach to ourselves.

With that said, I'm mostly dreaming at this point. I would say our chances of upgrading at this time is 50% at best. But if they can eliminate the down payment, you never know... :)

I understand about outgrowing. When we bought our first TT we only had one child, now there are three of them. The thought of getting into our previous TT with them gave me hives almost. So we went ahead and sold it, and paid of debt and bought some furniture, all while saving for a new TT. I would love to have 3 queen beds to sprall out in!

I think this and the Damon Outlaw are the only Class A gas toyhaulers, no?

The Damon floorplan puts a bedroom over the garage where the Newmar has it ahead of the garage.

Have you checked out the Damon? (Damon vs. Newmar aside...)

Editing my own post. Forgot about the Gulfstream Bounty Hunter. It's floorplan(s) is a lot like the Damon.

I didn't care for those for the same reason we probably wouldn't get a fifth wheel. We don't care for the short ceilings over the master bed. I have to admit, they are both very nice.

The real master bedroom is unique to the Newmar, and nice.

I could just about pass on the garage and build a real nice kids area back there, like some 5'ers, bunks, couch, TV.

Just wondered if you had seen the others.

Of course, I could tow a 10' enclosed trailer behind my 31' motorhome and not be too much longer than a toyhauler.
