It may not be as bad as you think. To be honest I've NEVER liked my hair when the hairdresser has done it. However, once I wash it and dry it myself I usually come round and a week later end up loving it!
They always dry hair different to how we can do it ourselves and you never know when you wash it yourself it may appear longer as they tend to curl the hair as they dry. Unless you happen to be a professional with a hair dryer the way you dry it might add a touch more to the length.
