Geez, I'm not sure what to think.

I had a 9am appointment. Went in, and this lady a "mentor" asked me and 2 other ladies questions, on goals etc... Then she shows me 2 machines. I do them. The other 2 ladies do them. We go get measured. We sit back down, here comes the SALES pitch!.... So what did we get today..

$149.00 sign up fee- less $100.00 for FIRST 100 signed..
$29.00 draft from checking per month
39.00 non-draft per month..

Or $49 sign up
$29 x 12 months 348.00
less 10% 357.30
plus 5% sales tax..17.86
total of 375.16

So my thought was to go through the circuit at least once, and see if I felt as though I was doing anything. The only thing I know is that the machine where you put sit, and your feet go between the rollers- then you straighen your legs etc... is not made for tall people. I had to use a wedge, as it was not comfortable on my tendons at all.

I never did see where the changing rooms are, I have no clue what the stretches are, only know how to use 2 machines...

SO in the end, what did I do??

I made an appointment for 9am tomorrow morning. Tomorrow morning, I will sign up for a year, and pay in full. That way I'm obligated to go!..

Part of my "wish" was to get off my a** and get to curves when it opened.

Another bonus, when I go back to school in the fall, there is one very convienent to campus, I can go on lunch breaks.

They are open from 7am-7pm M-F right now, no weekend hours???

I'll tell ya in a few days if I think I wasted $400 bucks!

I Brandy:wave2: and congratulations on your weight loss so far, and for making the comittment to exercise! I hope that you find yourself happy at Curves--I know many people who really like it. Keep up the GREAT WORK and do post about you're enjoying your workouts!:) :) :)

Don't ya just love the sales pitch ... $149 initiation but we'll give you $100 off IF YOU SIGN UP TODAY ! I've been going to Curves since last March and I still love it. For your app't today, they will have one of the staff take you through the entire circuit teaching you how to use each machine. And depending on how many machines you have, that will determine how many times around the circuit you should go. They should also go through the cool down stretches with you.

Good for you for making the committment. Keep us posted on how you're doing there.

My only complaint with Curves is the very limited hours they have. If I work 10:00am 06:30 I don't get to go. The earliest I can get there is 9 and if I work at 10 that doesn't work. The latest they are opened till is 8 and if I work till 6:30 by the time I get home and get dinner started for the family it is after 7:30.

I do like how fast it is and the fact that I don't have to wait to get on the machines like I always had to at Ballys.

The sales pitch is pretty much the same all over..they are always running that sign up today and we'll waive _____amount. The monthly payments are the same.

well I showed up for my appointment at 9am. Went throught the 1st circut myself, and a 65 year old HOOT of a lady!..she had me laughing the entire time....the owner showed us the machines.

We then went through 2x ourselves, thats our total here, 3 times around. I still can't do the quad/hamstring machine, it really hurts my tendons in the back of my knee..

I did feel it mainly in the upper body exercises, the lower body is always stronger...

I did the stretches after, and found the changing rooms. I dont think I'll need those, as I just come home after. I can't imagine just changing my clothes and going on my way for the day, but without showers, I guess some people just have no choice....

I dont like the 30 day travel card either. I wish it was like golds, where you just show your membership card, and they let you in. Would be much easier. Maybe I'll be in a town or 2 over running errands some day and feel like stopping in a curves for a work out. What a PIA to get a card, and remember it at that!

Oh well, time will tell if this is doing any good.

I'll let you know what I feel like tomorrow

??? How come your "less 10%" makes the total more. From my math, less 10% would be $34.80 off. So your total comes to $313.20, then tax.
Hmmmm

Your Curves hours beat mine and mine has been open for almost a year. Ours started at 9-12 and 4-7 M-F. About 6 weeks later they added Saturday morning hours. Now they've extended the morning hours and they open at 8:00 M-F. A new Curves opened 30 minutes from me and their hours from start up are 7A-8P M-F and 8-12 on Saturday.

Still wish I could take my kids and stick them in a corner to read or play their Gameboys. If I don't get in there at 8A, then I can't go all day. And if dh has patients in the hospital, then I definitely can't go! :(

When I DO go though, it's GREAT! :)

Because I added in the $49 "service fee"...

Brandy, you're probably going to love CURVES. Just a word of worning....DON"T OVERDO IT! If you haven't exercised much, be gentle with yourself on the machines....slower, shorter/controled movements. It's very easy in the excitment of jumping from one to the next (especially if your CURVES has great music) to overdo. They have you check your heart rate, which is good. But, you must start out easy on un-conditioned muscles.

Just a word of caution from someone who pulled a groin muscle her second week and was out of comission for weeks!

AHHHH! Thanks! Plain to see now! :)

I try to get to Curves 3x a week. Right now, something's wrong with my left knee (I think I wrenched it) so no Curves for a few days! I always avoid the squat machine, as it hurts my arthritic left knee. I've found that there's nothing wrong with avoiding a particular machine.
Don't forget to stay at your target heart rate. Too slow & you're not getting a good work-out, too fast & you could cause some problems for yourself.

(from a totally biased Curves member: my brother and his wife own 3!)

I started Curves in October when they first opened. I'm originally from the Northeast and they've had a Curves there for a couple of years now. (Opened one up a few weeks after I moved:( ). My sister goes plus some of my former work friends and they all rave about it. Couldn't wait to go when it opened here.

I wasn't disappointed. I love it. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/209.gif' border=0></a>

I haven't really lost a lot of weight but, as you can see, I've lost 10 inches and I couldn't be happier. I'm one of the worst people about doing excersizes. I absolutely hate it but I love Curves. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the results.
