Hi,

I may have missed it, but where did you see information regarding where Yavn is from on the linked site? The company, Sulake, is headquartered in Finland, but they have 18 offices worldwide. I did not see anything in regard to Yavn's nationality. Did I miss it?

Also, may I suggest the option that Yavn is not his true name? Just like "Jegrezo" may sound like it is from many places, but that is irrelevent to where I am from as it is not my name.

Just a few thoughts,
Disney Dreams

P.S. I am sure that someone will correct me if I am wrong or clarify if they know more on the above.

On VMK, I am Bezoar, and I originated as a hairball from the stomach of a mammal.

As a feline I can appreciate a good hair ball now and then!

Yavn works for the walt disney company as well as the rest of the Tester/Staff Team. Just because they consult and may work with Sulake does not mean they have to be at those certain offices Sulake has... and i am pretty sure he got the name "Yavn" from another language and it means creator or something... idk just what i have heard.

Although I have not found the actual spelling that he has used... in the Hebrew/Biblical terms there are several similar names that it could possibly be related to. Yavin and Yavan both mean "One who is intelligent" while Yavn'el and Yavneh mean "He will build"... so it is possible to have come from 1 of these.

Yes this is correct. I also remember seeing an interview with him posted on another VMK board where he does say that this is why he has this name. He chose it, it is not his real name.

As others have stated "Yavn" is not his real name and he now works for DISNEY not Sulake.

Yavn is a software designer and is also working on the Pirates of the Caribbean interactive Game coming out next year.

A While back there was a podcast with him. He does not have an accent so that leaves out a different nationality. I had read that he was Australian before.

His name is<name removed >and he is a Disney employee I forget his exact title but it is something like Person in Charge of Special Projects for on line gaming. It was not creator of VMK lol!

Cool information. If anyone else wants to check it out the mission space online game was kind of neat. I didn't realize there was another game you could play along with people at the park. click here to play

Walt Disney Internet Group Names Paul Yanover as EVP and Managing Director, Disney Online
Paul Yanover, a 12-year Disney veteran and current head of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online (WDPRO), has been named executive vice president and managing director of Disney Online (DOL), the business unit of the Walt Disney Internet Group (WDIG) that produces the top entertainment destination for kids and families on the World Wide Web. The appointment was announced today by WDIG President Steve Wadsworth and is effective immediately.

"Paul has been a driving force in digital media within our company for more than a decade, most recently with our Parks & Resorts group, building its website portfolio into a substantial e-commerce business," said Wadsworth. "I've worked closely with him for the past three years and know he brings a strong vision that will take our business to the next level during this time of great opportunity for Disney Online, when more and more consumers are turning to the Internet as a key source of entertainment."

In his new capacity, Yanover will assume responsibility for all of DOL's strategic, creative, technical and marketing initiatives surrounding the presence of the Disney brand on the Internet, including: flagship site www.disney.com, which will undergo a major redesign and strategic development initiative over the next several years; DOL's acclaimed suite of premium broadband products including online games; a large portfolio of divisional Web sites for The Walt Disney Company (TWDC); and Web sites www.familyfun.com, www.go.com and www.movies.com.

Yanover will succeed Ken Goldstein, who is leaving Disney to pursue another opportunity. "Ken has made great contributions to WDIG over the past eight years," said Wadsworth. "We wish him well in his next venture."

Yanover is a seasoned Disney executive who has held senior positions with Walt Disney Studios, Buena Vista Games and WDPRO. During his three-year tenure in his current post as senior vice president and general manager, WDPRO, e-commerce sales have more than tripled. Yanover was also responsible for developing and launching Virtual Magic Kingdom, Disney's online multi-player adventure game that allows Disney fans to experience the magic of Disney Theme Parks from their own home.

Prior to WDPRO, Yanover was senior vice president and general manager of the Buena Vista Game Entertainment Studio, a business unit of TWDC which was founded to exploit emerging opportunities in the PC, video game and online entertainment businesses. He began his career with Disney in 1991 with Walt Disney Feature Animation, ultimately becoming vice president of technology and digital production for the group. In 1999, Yanover co-founded Ceiva Logic, Inc., a consumer electronics company featuring Ceiva, the world's first Internet-connected digital picture frame and digital picture-sharing network.

Yanover holds a Master of Science degree in computer science from the University of Southern California and a double honors Bachelor of Science in computer science and economics from the University of Western Ontario.

lol, yanover

so many possiblities

but heck you never know, maybe yavn wanted "yavn" as his real name when he was young...

i wanted patchy as my real name

And of course everyone knows I am a bird made of thunder. lol

IIRC, isn't Yavn the name of that planet in the first Star Wars moive that was the rebel base. You know, right before the death star blew up.

Yavn does mean "to build", he chose the name. He used to work for Sulake but the transition to Disney employee has been made. He is a HUGE Star Wars fan.

He worked alot on the Buzz Lightyear game but not much on the Everest Yeti.

As yavn has stated many times, it was not just he that created VMK but a very talented team of game producers.

Happy 1 Year pixiedust: Anniversary yavn!!

I will beat DarthJordan to this one... it was the 4th moon circling the planet Yavin, referred to as Yavin IV. :darth:
:teeth:

I thought I was pretty sure on that one. looks like we have two reasons for the name that both make sense.

OK, let me see if I've got this. Yavn is Yanover?

Sorry, but I'm clueless about the background, only having started playing last month. You all through all these names around, and some of us don't get it! LOL.

Yavn is not Paul Yanover. He stopped all the crazy rumors like this on another forum. He said he has worked with Paul Yanover for years. Paul oversees Yavn's department at Disney. Yavn's name is Seth and is on a license plate in the Sci-Fi Dine In on VMK. I will not reveal his last name for privacy.
