Well, it's scheduled. Now what?

february just wasn't as good a time for him to get away. it does end up saving me some money though. and i ended up having to move from the grand floridian to the polynesian. yeah, i'm VERY jazzed to see spaceship earth again. i haven't seen it since new years 1984. it was weird, i was thinking about the last time i was at WDW. i remember some things so vividly, like that somebody snuck into the space mountain pre-show on new years eve and put party hats and blowers on all of those audio-animatronic figures they used to have in there...that was so funny to me at the time...

If I may ask, what is the significance of the name "cornjob?"

ha ha - it only SOUNDS dirty. if you ever watched mystery science theater 3000, it's a reference to a character in one of the "gamera" movies they trashed. i suppose i should come up with a more disney-fied one, but all of the good ones seem to be taken already....

:woohoo: YOU SHOULD ENJOY GOING SOLO,IT GIVES YOU THE TIME TO DO WHAT YOU WANT WHEN YOU WANT. DONT BE AFRAID TO DO SOLO SIT DOWN MEALS, THE CAST MEMBERS TREAT YOU GREAT AND YOU GET TO TRY ALL THE GREAT RESTURANTS. YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME. MY LAST FEW TRIPS HAVE BEEN SOLO AND ITS A BLAST.

that's great to hear. are there any restaurants in particular that are best for single diners, or does it make any difference?

I LOVED mystery science theater!! We have some of the old episodes on dvd. Fabulous. Which movie was "cornjob" from exactly? I wonder if we have that one.

Well it's a bummer that you've changed up and won't be there in Jan when my clan will be there and Joe certainly has lost out on a great experience! I'm sure you'll have a blast and I too am jealous that you'll get to go to Spaceship Earth - I've never been.

I also think you should make a few ADRs just to have the full experience :thumbsup2

And MST was a blast, I'd fall out of my chair watching them tweak out on those bad b-movies :D youtube has quite a few clips including this hilarious 50s PSA about dating http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrmFGSM1h44&feature=related

damn, i knew somebody was going to ask. i had to go look it up. it was "gamera vs. guiron"...does anybody remember "officer cornjob"? wow - i just had a flash - wouldn't those characters from the show make a great disney ride? or just roaming characters in the park? who wouldn't hug "tom servo"?

well, i've had to reschedule the trip until february, and now it's a solo trip. two good things: 1) now splash mountain and spaceship earth will be reopened (although who knows now what will be closed for refurb at that time), and 2) i won't have a hard-to-impress newbie along for the ride. anybody ever done a trip by yourself? for 10 days? any tips? i've been reading some of the solo trip reports online here, and it doesn't seem like a big deal. in fact, it seems like things go more smoothly if you only have yourself to keep track of. one thing i've realized is that i no longer want to do sitdown-type restaurants if i'm going by myself. one other thing - what are the crowds like around president's day? i'll be there 2/18 thru 2/29....

wow - it's been a while since i posted....i made a little tweak to my itinerary. i reiewed all of the table service restaurants, and i was going to call make ADRs (really, i was). then it struck me - this dining plan is costing me about $700. there's no way i'm spending $70 a day on food. would i rather spend time eating solo in a sit-down (albeit nice) restaurant or have MORE TIME IN THE PARKS?? the answer is simple (for me, anyway). sure, i'll splurge once or maybe twice and have room service, but for the most part, it'll be counter or quick service meals. so, i downgraded to just a plain park ticket. sure, i don't get the refillable resort mug, but that's ok. wow - it sure seems like time is dragging by before this vacation. i want to GO!

We opted not to do the dining plan. We ran the numbers and found that, yes it would be cheaper for us if we actually wanted to do that many table service meals...but in reality, we wouldn't. If we did the dining plan we would basically force ourselves to do all of those meals. We're more of the counter service type of people. Eating at WDW is basically a necessity for us and not something we really need to do to enjoy part of the disney experience. We don't care much about where we eat as long as the food is okay. We just want to eat so we can get back to the parks.

exactly! i'm not a big eater anyway. but i don't know anybody who eats that much. not even joe....lol.

so how is the planning going these days??

lol.....i'm holding all of my clothes and just waiting, poised over the suitcase and ready to throw them in and go....waiting is so hard....

*sigh* i just hate this. something always seems to come up...this is now my 5th(!!) attempt since september to take a vacation to WDW. i've had to reschedule my trip - i'm now leaving 2/29 and staying through 3/10. with less than a month until i go, i have a bet going with joe. he thinks i won't make it and i stupidly continue to insist i will.

I hope it works out and you're able to go!! Good luck!

me too. i wonder what the world record for cancelling and rescheduling is? i decided to spring for a ticket to the pirate and princess party on 3/6. not because i want to dress like a pretty princess or a grrrr pirate, but because i want to go on more rides with less lines.

what exactly is the pirate and princess party? it's something i didn't even look at at all because i had no clue what it was. i just figured it was something for kids.

i had to mull it over for a while before deciding to do it, since it's mainly aimed at kids who want to dress up. basically, it's a hard-ticket event (about $45) that enables to you stay in the magic kingdom from 7 to midnight. there are themed events all over, parades and fireworks, and you can search for beads and treasure in certain spots. i can't remember what the limit on tickets is, but it puts the park population way lower than the average, and most of the rides are open as well. when i talked to the CM on the phone about it being just for kids, she said she had gone to it herself a couple of nights earlier and had a great time just going on rides and watching the fireworks.
