I've got a credit card I've only been using for rewards programs offers, and lately, they've all been through Sunshine Rewards. Well, someone stole my number online and used it to transfer almost $500 through Western Union this afternoon. :furious: The cc company (Chase) caught it (but still authorized the transaction, even though they suspected fraud -- go figure) and now the account is closed.

Please understand that I am in NO WAY blaming SR at ALL. I believe they're completely above-board. But somewhere, in the midst of the offers I was doing, my number was stolen, so I'm just going to have to go back to simple clicks to earn my Disney Dollars instead of the high-money offers. I just don't want to take a chance again. Rotten thieves. :sad2:

Sorry to hear you cc number was stolen.....I can't believe they caught it & still authorized the transaction  I would be pretty mad at Chase.

I have a cc with a credit union...they scared the heck out of me yesterday...Hubby bought a Pc online (circuit city)...Within 15 minutes of him picking up the purchase... my phone rang..I figure it was some telemarker and let the answer machine get it...They left the following message

“Hello. This message is for (cardholder name). This is the service center for your Credit Union’s VISA credit card account. We are calling to verify suspiciose activity that has appeared on your account. Please give us a call at 1-800-******. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Again, the telephone number is 1-800-****. Thank you.”

I'm thinking it was Voice Phishing, the latest attempt in financial fraud. .So I check out my credit union online to verify it was legit...Called the 1-800 number and they release the blocked purchase and then they allowed the pending purchase showed up on my account....I'm glad they called but now I'm wonder if I'm going to get my points since they put a block on it...

Just a word of advice about Voice Phishing--Call your bank or CC before releasing any information to the caller or calling the number back..The company will never asked for your pin numer or Security code number ..Never give those numbers out. These jerks are really smart....They will tell you your recent purchase to gain your confindience they even use caller id spoofing(they can put your bank or CC name and number on caller id to make it look legit!!!

Oh, no!!! How terrible! Is your bank going to investigate it as a fraud? They should be able to track it back. If I hear anything else like this, I'll try to piece together if anyone did any particular offers in common.

We had a really weird charge show up for a downloadable computer program last month. It was actually our bank debit card, not the business credit card that I test the SR rewards on. I have absolutely no idea still how they got the number. It was a mess.

I'm going to pass this along to our advertising companies just in case they get any other complaints. You never know. If they do, they might be able to track the culprits.

The whole thing is really frustrating. And lilangel, you're right, I'm plenty upset with Chase. They've stopped *us* from using our card before if the purchase seemed unusual to them, but they can't stop something they themselves term "extremely suspicious"?! :sad2: They're not holding us liable for the charge, but it would've been nice if they'd stopped it altogether.

They've called me in the past to verify charges, and I've always hung up and called them directly to make sure the call was legit. I figure you can never be too careful, right?

Tricia, thanks for understanding that I wasn't "dissing" SR! :) Your program is the best I've ever used. I appreciate your keeping on top of it, and sorry you had something similar to deal with! You know, that whole debit thing scares me ... I don't use them because I'm afraid something would happen to my bank account. :scared:

If I ever find out where this happened, I'll be sure to post!

It must be something with Chase.

My Disney Visa had it's account number stolen a month or so ago. I had a charge of $600 for a futon in Salt Lake (I am in CT) & they let that go thru but then there was a charge of $1000 in toys in CA.

They didn't let the calls go thru but they didn't call me either which ticked me off.

My cell phone is a prepaid one & it gets automatically charged to the Disney visa. Well it kept saying the balance was low & I needed to pay now as in today.

My dh called that day & they said it kept blocking the payment. I tried to get to the account online & I couldn't.

Good thing he called that day otherwise I would of had to pay an activation fee for my phone.

But that same day I got a letter in the mail about it & then called them.

And I read somewhere else on here that someone's DV # got stolen.

I am so sorry it happend. There are very rude people in this world.

Just makes you wonder what they're doing there at Chase, doesn't it? :sad2: I'm sorry you had to deal with that, too. You can't help but feel violated.

Chase has a very good option available that I use. Go to their web site and set an email alert to whatever level you want, and when a charge of that amount or higher is charged to you card, you get an email. I use my disney card a lot, and have my limit set to $100.

We use chase on all our purchases, we are very careful with who we purchase from. We've built up over $500, no problems what so ever. We've had the card since the Disney Rewards was availible on it.

Unfortunately, that wouldn't have made any difference in my case, as I wasn't home at the time the charge was allowed. And if they allow it anyway and contact you afterward via email, I would've had the same result -- a fraudulent charge and a closed account.

Not sure how your comments apply to my situation or what point you're making? :confused3

You do realize that no matter how "careful" you are, your number can still be stolen, right? Retail store records can be hacked into (this happened to us with our Citibank card at a nationwide-chain department store), a dishonest employee can pull numbers from charge slips, the list goes on and on ... there's no way to be 100% certain your card number won't be compromised.

You're very fortunate that you haven't had it happen to you. :)

You not kidding --My DH is retired military--Within 3 years timeframe they had 2 break-ins where the crocks got away with his SS Number...We had to put a fraud alert on our creidt...We are so lucky that nothing has happened yet..But it is such a pain!!!! We have to check his credit to make sure nothing has opened...

I'm so scared he might some day be faced with Identity Theft because of this whole mess...I'm taking one step farther after the fraud alert expires We will put another alert on his credit.....I'm sitting here thinking the crocks are justing waiting for all these alerts to expire :scared: You would figure this would of not of happened with the goverment!!! :sad2:

That's VERY scary! Identity theft is my biggest paranoia! Wouldn't it be nice if you could get issued a new SSN just like a new cc# when you know it's been compromised? ;) I hope you guys never have anything bad come of your dh's being stolen!! That's a terrible thing to have hanging over your heads!

I thought the same thing... :confused3 the goverment could of least issued all new SS numbers to the ones affected by the theft - My Dh has excellent credit these crocks could send us into debt beyond belief. We had to put alert on his and my credit because of the first theft.. :sad2:

I'm so sorry to hear of that happening. After reading everything, it might explain why we have one charge that is still pending on the Dis Visa. My DH just bought a new car last week. The sales person was only supposed to put a $500 charge on the Disney Visa so that the car could not be sold to anyone else. The charge was to go back the next day (after he got the car). Well instead of the sales person charging $500, he charged more on the card. He immediatley realized his mistake and voided it out then charged the correct amount.

DH is leaving on Saturday for Dis to attend a business conference. We're hoping it gets cleared up before he goes so he can pay for his room at CBR.

DiznEeyore, are they crediting your account with the money that was fraudently taken out?

Yes. But they said it might take up to two billing periods to get it credited back.

I hope your card issues get cleared up before your dh's trip! I do have to say that I don't like Chase's method of figuring "pending charges". When I've made large payments, they actually put them into the "pending charges" column and don't credit them to the account for several days "just to make sure they clear". :confused3 I've had to get on 3-way calls with them and my credit union twice to get Chase to acknowledge that they've received the electronic transfer. My credit union rep ripped into the Chase rep telling them that they were feeding me a line of bull and that Chase knew for certain that they had the money since it was electronically transferred days earlier.

Chase drives me crazy. I'm not even sure I'm going to keep the card after this debacle.

That explains the "pending" column we have. Thanks. So far this is the only thing we have encountered since we got the Dis card last year.

I'm glad to hear they are crediting it for you.

Edited to add: I just got off the phone with Disney Visa. I was told it takes 7-10 days for anything in pending to come off. Looks like our money in pending will be back in "available credit" by Friday. Phew, that is cutting it too close. DH will need it the next day!
