Well, the decision was made! I just faxed notice to my resale broker our intent to cancel our resale contract. Our offer was on the low pass side BEFORE all the new rules went into effect, and now with all the ROFR action, probably had less than a 50% chance to pass. Also, these points through DVC are our Feb use year (the resale was a different use year), and after I rent out the 2004 points, only $500 more than the resale, worth it IMO. Also, the points are available to me NOW, and if the BW system wasn't down at DVC, I could make my ressies today! I feel very confident with our decision, now to figure out how to rent points!!!!! So, I'm officially a BWV owner, and it feels GREAT!!!!! For those of you also on the waitlist with DVC, I put my name on the waitlist for BWV for a Feb use year on Wednesday afternoon. We wanted 150 points, and according to my guide, exactly 150 points became available on Monday, and they were given to me on Tuesday. I must have been first in line for Feb Boardwalk points, since she said she hadn't seen any come in before Monday.

Good for you - FWIW, I'd have done the same thing!

Congratulations!

When I am ready to buy again I will do the same thing. So many of the hassles are eliminated this way.

Lori,

I also think you made the right choice!!!

FWIW...I have downloaded sample "rent" contracts just in case I ever needed them (our initial BWV contract had banked points, and we had planned to rent them to recoup some of our costs...that lasted all of 15 seconds, before dh decided we needed to celebrate and just USE the banked points), but here is the link if you want to take a look at it.

That's FANTASTIC!!! Congrats!!! Beca - thanks for the site, that's exactly what I've been looking for!!!!

Lori...you're welcome!!!

LIFERBABE...Congrats!!! Elusive BCV points...ooooooh!!! This new policy may not be too bad afterall if people can actually start getting the points they want in a reasonable amount of time!!!

Congratulations on your decision to go through Disney for the add-on. The extra bit of money you paid is definitely worth the peace of mind, given the rather sporadic ROFR process right now! I agree with Beca, we're to "greedy" to rent out banked points -- would rather use them ourselves!!

Sorry, I haven't followed the threads regarding buying BWV from DVC now, except I remember reading that DVC now sells the points at $89 a point and you must buy 150 points minimum. Could you tell me how much are the closing fees? And how much do you pay in addition if current year's points (whether some or all) are available? And what if current year's points are not available? And anything else re buying BWV via DVC to help me better compare the benefits of buying resale elsewhere. Thanks!

You only need to buy the 150 minimum from DVC if you're new members, otherwise you can add-on as few as 25 points. The $89 per point is all inclusive, there are no closing costs through DVC. You do pay prorated maintenence from the day your deposit is taken, but not for the entire year. When you buy through DVC, you always get the current years points, they don't sell "stripped" contracts to their members. If you're looking to join DVC, and really want one of the sold out resorts, you might be better off looking on the resale market. There currently is more available there than DVC has to offer, but that might change. Good Luck!!!

Lori...that's great news! And I think that you'll be glad to have paid that small upcharge to get the same UY!

It's kind of weird on these boards. We commiserate with those who's contracts are snatched by ROFR, but we celebrate with those who reap the benefits of those ROFR snatches!

Hey, we just want everyone to be happy, right? :p

Well, as you remember I didn't want to cancel my resale contract because I felt bad for backing out on the sellers. Well, I'm happy to report that after my contract was re-listed at TTS yesterday afternoon, it is now listed as sale pending! So, the sellers didn't have to wait long to sell it again, and I can only hope it sold for more money!! So, did any Disser pick up the April 152 points at BWV???

Sounds like you made a good choice. It's funny how advice here can change so drastically in a short time. A few months ago, DVC didn't have ANYTHING to sell and wasn't bothering with ROFR, and now they seem to be picking up everything. I think that means another price increase is in the wings.
