Guess what I did today? Well I spent the day with about 2000 Ebay members.
Yes the Ebay live was going on today tomorrow and Saturday. It was like an old high school reunion for us, you see they hired a lot of the Disney college kids to work the event, so every time we turned a corner we ran into somebody we knew.
I even ran into some pin traders there, I mean a lot of pin traders...
The event was top notch; I got to meet some cool techno type people that worked in the shadows of Ebay. I even ran into the famous Meg lady that started it all. (And I do mean ran into, hey I had to go to the bathroom)
Some of these people treat Meg and they all call her by her first name, like shes a close sister or first cousin, they actually think they can get close to her and ask her to lunch. Dont get me wrong shes a nice lady treats the Ebayers like Family and had an awesome food spread for us all, but I dont think she would let any of us even get close to her.
I was amazed how they treat the power sellers, why some of the regular attendees were treating the power sellers like they were some kind of gods, I kept telling them that it means nothing, all it means is that we sell a lot more junk than the other people. Well the cute younger girls I just tell them to bow and kiss my power seller ring. (yes they have those)
It was funny they kept asking us if we knew any strategies like bulk selling, and mass payments, I started to count I was asked 34 time what did I sell, people were waiting for us to sit down so they could come talk to us, it was a riot.
The power seller had their own little lounge and areas I really dont like this for the same reason I cant stand first class in airplanes, I am the same if not better than any millionaire, I just dont have the money they have thats all. I let a woman borrow my power seller tag to go into the lounge when she came back she had the look like she had seen nirvana, when in actuality it was hot, the coffee and tea tasted like swamp water, and the water cooler water was warm. The only reason we went there was to get our free T-shirts, and pin (Yes I said pin)
And thats why I write about my adventure there, Ebay has jumped on the pin trading bandwagon; they had collectable pins on sale and were offering pins at each of the different category booths like Home furnishings, Ebay motors, and Power Sellers. Which by the way is the pin everybody wants, since these were Disney kids working the show they all had full lanyards before they even started to hand them out, there was pin trading going on everywhere. (I was so proud I cried)
The problem is the Ebay workers didnt want to give them up when the show opened, and Ebay made it worse by offering pins, and even a pin set of LE pins for sale, and they had computer terminals hooked to Ebay everywhere so people were going around getting pins turning around and putting them up for sale on Ebay at the next turn It was hilarious.
Not to be outdone I went to the car and Donna and I loaded our Lanyards with cut Disney pins, so we were being stalked not by the public, but by the Ebay staff. It seems they were collecting pins themselves. Now the pins were free, but as I mentioned the staff did not want to hand them out, they were making people sing dance and answer questions and you had to be right to get pin, Im sorry but this professional pin trader from the Disney pin war zone well he dont sing and he dont dance, but he gets pins, and you think thats bad you should have seen the poor soul that asked Donna to do something for her pin like sing the Ebay song, the look on her face was enough to get her as many pins as she wanted, I just smiled and said oh dude you just didnt say what I thought you said When she was done with him he just bowed his head and said Im sorry heres your pin. The power seller was the coveted pin and some even made it their holy grail, I had all sorts of offers on that pin, but who are they kidding Im a pin person darn it.
Its was pin madness everywhere and tomorrow it will get weirder they said they will be releasing special LEs and man they will be hard to find if they make it onto the floor at all that is.
All in all it was great, they had plenty of Food, three bands, lots of free stuff, they really took care of the Ebayers. I just didnt go for the game show stuff, people were pushing and shoving their way to get on to the stage and play the games or to running around getting their Ebay passports stamped to be able to spin the prize wheel, and the show masters as I call them were making people act like idiots to win prizes like T-shirts, pins or Ebay cash that could be used to buy Ebay stuff. All in all Ebay did a great job and I was very impressed.
Tomorrow Donna goes solo, as I will be in Miami, so lets see how well she does at those LEs
If you want to see the pins go to Ebay and search Ebay pin* and see for yourself, remember these pins were being handed out for free. Especially look at auction 2178129601. Weird huh.
He even the Disney guy was there handing out these huge Disney Ebay auction pins.
