Well, after yesterday, my DH has changed our Disney plans

For Christmas, I bought my DH the Rickard Petty Rookie experience. I bought it months ago for him to use in Disney World. Kind of a "see, Disney can be fun for you too!" gift. He was thrilled with it! I showed him the little brochure they send. Pointing out the WDW speedway. "see, honey! won't that be fun?"

DH "huh?"
ME "huh, what?"
DH "well, aren't we driving right through Atlanta and Daytona to get there?"
ME "huh?"

So, thinking to remedy this little glitch and stick to the MASTER WDW PLAN I quickly bring up the Richard Petty Driving track schedule. "Sorry, babe" is on the tip of my tongue, ready to burst forth the second the schedule is before me. Lo and behold, Atlanta has one open date and time during our trip. And lookie here! It happens to be the day before our ressie starts at WDW. Originally, it was our long travel day.

Now, I'm stuck! I know my DH will just scratch our "down" day at Disney. I wait painfully for the suggestion I know is coming. I quickly reset my mental ticker to arrive the next day. Not really caring to hear the whole "I'm missing enough work, the kids are missing enough school blah blah blah blah... and the money... blah blah blah" argument. And then he says it...

"Let's just leave a day early, drive to Atlanta, spend the night, I'll drive at the speedway the next morning and then we'll just drive the rest of the way that night, getting to Disney a day EARLY"

WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!

(my smilies don't work since the board upgrade so please insert several dancing bananas here)

SWEET!!! I'd say that's a heckova solution!

(My smilies don't work since the board upgrade, either... so insert thumbs up smilie here!)

Sounds like a winner to me!

He will really like the Petty thing. DH did it at Homestead and loved it! They are very family friendly, too. They took the kids around the track in a van and let family get very close to the track while the drivers were waiting their turn.

And there's lots to do in Atlanta. Be sure to take the kids to the new Georgia Aquarium if you find the time.

I agree that the Petty Driving Experience will be great. My dad did it in March when we went and he had a blast. They do take the rest of the family around in a van and even let them get pictures taken in front of a race car. It's amazing!:thumbsup2

I have to second this. We did the aquarium on our way back from WDW last December and it was incredible. Watching two whale sharks glide over your head is amazing. Also the large viewing window (not sure if you would actually call it a window?) is amazing. You can stand right up to it and it feels like you can reach out and touch one of the creatures swimming by.

so funny you mention the aquarium! We won't have the time to stop and enjoy it this trip but we had already put it on a "must do" list for May. We will be returning to Atlanta for a few days for a friends wedding.

Just a side note about the aquarium tickets. The tickets are now time stamped and the most popular times sell out very quickly. (they stagger the amount of people they let in so it does not get over crowded. once you are in you are in, but you have to wait until your allotted time to go in.) However, what we did was purchase a package deal through a local hotel and there was no time stamp on our tickets to get in. That way we were able to get in early in the am and enjoy ourselves and take our time, because it seemed to me to get more crowded as the day went on. Enjoy. Your whole family will love it.
