UPDATE: Big thanks to Ukintheus for letting us know that the sailaway time for Magic has changed from 5 to 4:30!! We definitely don't want to miss the main event! This means we might not have time for dessert at La King's, depending on how busy the Spot is and how long lunch takes, so we'll play it by ear. Hopefully we'll still have time, since it's just a short walk from there to the pier. I know I will never hear the end of it if my son doesn't get his beloved La King's chocolate malt, LOL.

SO... Lunch will definitely be at 1pm at The Spot, and we'll plan on being back at the downtown area by 3pm. Hopefully that will give us enough time to park and go grab some sweet stuff before staking out our Bon Voyage spots on the pier. :goodvibes

*********************************************************

There are so many of us who are over-the-moon about Disney homeporting right out of Galveston... After years of rumors, it finally happens beginning September 22nd when the beautiful Disney Magic arrives!

Let's all show Disney and Galveston both how excited we are, Texas-style. Big, boisterous, memorable!!

According to DCL and the Port of Galveston, the Magic is scheduled to arrive on Saturday, September 22nd, somewhere between 5am and 7am. This is subject to change -- if I hear anything different I will definitely post it, and if anyone else hears anything different please post it as well!

Sailaway is scheduled for 4:30pm later that same day.

We are planning on several different get-togethers. For the early morning arrival, we're meeting at the Denny's at Seawall & 14th at the lovely hour of 5am. :faint: Hopefully they'll have lots of strong coffee ready. :thumbsup2 We're going to follow the Magic's progress via Marine Traffic if we can, and then head to the pier when we decide it's appropriate. We'll be there at the pier in front of the Olympia Grill, on 20th between where the Elissa normally is and the OceanStar Museum. (Between #'s 16 and 23 on the map) http://www.galveston.com/maps/map.pdf

There's parking right there, if available, or you can park at meters in the Strand area a couple of blocks over.

For sailaway, that's a bit tougher. Sailaway is scheduled for 4:30pm, but because of how many people and press I imagine are going to be there, we'll need to be there much earlier than that if we want to find parking and room on the pier. But the mood and atmosphere should be so exciting right there!!

So if anyone else is interested, DS & I are planning on going down early, at 1pm, and having lunch at our favorite place, The Spot. I'm aiming to get the bigger table upstairs and outside on the deck. DS & will have our pin lanyards on, to help people find us!

Then we'll head toward the pier and find a place to park. If it's still pretty early at that point, we'll wander over to La King's and have a milkshake (YUM) at around 2:30 or 3, making sure to be at the pier by about 3:30. (It's a short walk, for anyone not familiar -- a walk of maybe a couple short blocks.)

Anyone is welcome to any or all of these stops!! Wear your ears, your pins, your giant Mickey hands, bring cowbells and noisemakers and bubbles and whatever. Anything and everything to show Disney what a TEXAS welcome and sendoff is like! :woohoo: :yay:

Please check in here with your name, number in your party, and if you're going to attend:
1.) Arrival - Time frame of 5-7am (Authorities say closer to 7 -- We're meeting at Denny's at 5am)
2.) Lunch at The Spot - 1pm
3.) Dessert at La King's (if there's time) - around 2:30 or 3pm
4.) Sailaway sendoff - 4:40pm (we'll be on the pier by 3:30pm)

I'll get cell phone numbers later, so I can text people and let them know if we'll be at La King's or not, or any other changes. And I will post to this thread via DISboards Mobile, so check back here!

See you all on the Island!!! :goodvibes

Hi Gina - we are going to be there for sail away for sure! :cool1: Still debating on arrival, it depends on how the timing works out.

We'll probably try to get to Galveston for lunch :thumbsup2 as I'd like to try and catch a glimpse of her at the port before she leaves.

Looking forward to a Texas party to celebrate having a DCL ship in our own backyard :cheer2:

Gina - :thumbsup2 count me in along with DH, DD maybe GD(11) hoping for arrival and for sure departure :dance3:. Have to find my GS Mickey hand(s) from our WDW trip in 08.

We'll be there for the Sail A Way party, and hopefully get there in time for lunch and everything afterward. W'ed been planning to see the Magic off on her first cruise from Galveston since we first heard she was coming here.

It's me and DD11. I'll pm you with our details.

There's a couple of people on our cruise meet who have been talking about going down to greet the Magic on her arrival. I'll let them know about this thread.

Thanks for arranging this!

Can't wait to meet all of you! I've been daydreaming, trying to decide which pair of ears to wear. :)

This is cool... Tried to pull up the Pier 28 cam, and this is all it shows:

(Sorry, I would just post the image, but can't do that from here at work)

Can't wait until September 22nd!! :yay:

We are hoping to be there for both! It will be me, DH, DD9, and DS7.

Now to decide what to wear...

I might have to go online and buy me a special Disney :wizard: shirt to wear for the 22nd :rotfl:, then have to decide if I'm wearing my greenish blue sparkley Mickie ears, ooorrrr my multi colored ears from Fantasmic :dance3:

We are planning to come down as well - just my two young daughters and I because hubby has to work. The four of us will be on the Magic when she leaves for Barcelona on May 18 and were last on her for the WBTA this past September.

We might have my college roommate and her daughter with us possibly.

Also - I love making iron-on transfer tshirts (heck, for $2 tshirts at Hobby Lobby and $1 for the iron-on transfer sheet from AmyMickey, you can't beat the price!). I am thinking of something to make that says "Welcome to Texas, DCL Magic!" and incorporating the Texas flag Mickey Head, or something of the sort. Has anyone started working on something similar?

Awesome! Are you planning on sailaway only? Or arrival as well?

I LOVE that idea. I would buy shirts like that! And since I don't own an iron, that would be the only way I could get any like that, lol. I had some shirts made for DS & I and our cruise buddies when we sailed on Mariner earlier this year at Vistaprint, but I don't think you can use copyrighted images like a Mickey head. Otherwise I would do that again in a heartbeat!

It would most likely be arrival only -- I'd be alone with my two kiddos, and we would be flying standby out of HOU so the flight times on a Saturday constrain us a little. Looking for a Friday night hotel so we can be sure to watch her sail in.

And yes -- you can use images at VistaPrint with Mickey Heads! Scroll down on this post and you can see tshirts we did through VistaPrint for our Sept 2011 WBTA. :thumbsup2 That was about the only company we found that would print tshirts with anything Disney on them.

ETA: You can click on those tshirt images and they will enlarge for you to see better. The images used are also in my folder -- which is what you get into when clicking on them. I just took existing images that the awesome folks here on DISboards have created and meshed some together to create a shirt. Blanks are out there as well so that folks who wanted to personalize their own tshirts could -- all found here on DISboards or in their 4share folders. None of my own creations (I am in no way a DISigner!!)

I plan to be there for the greeting of the Magic at 7AM.

I will be there for sure for the departure but not on the dock. I will be at the sail away party: on the deck of the Magic. party:

Oh wow, I love all those images in your folder!! I am utterly amazed at how people create stuff like that... I don't have the first clue as to even what program that would take. And that's awesome that Vistaprint will make shirts with Mickey images!! 4share?? I've never even heard of that!

Okay, so which one of you brilliant and creative people wants to design a t-shirt for everyone, welcoming the Magic to Texas? If someone could just do the design and post that, we can upload the image to Vistaprint and make our own orders. Right, MandyGirl??

Gina, I just could not resist being on the first cruise out of Galveston. I have been waiting for them to come to Texas FOREVER! I booked this trip as soon as it was announced. I'll wave at ya from deck 9.

Jill - I just know that first cruise is going to be such a fun experience!! :cheer2: We are a few weeks behind you on the Oct 13th sailing. Are you going to do a trip report by any chance? :flower3: Or, would you be willing to share check in experience specifically when you get back? Of course I'll take all the info I can get, but it would be great to have someone on that first cruise to give us some insights. :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

I hope closer to the time that there are some news pieces being done about her arrival that day - it may help me figure out if I can make it that morning or not. I just don't want to be on the road at 5:00 am to get there by 6:30am and miss it anyway because they brought her in earlier. :crazy2:

ME and DH will be there for the Arrival well plan on making it down about 6 AM count us in for Lunch and Dessert and were staying for the Sail Away. Well have out Mickey Ears and Hands will try to find our plastic hands we got when we went on the Maiden Voyage of The Dream.

Mandy if you design a shirt we would be interested in a couple of them, LOVE what you did with the other Designs.

Awesome!! How many of you will there be? I'm just trying to get a rough number in the end, both to contemplate a different lunch location and to give the media to give them an idea of just many rabid DCL fans really are going to be there at the crack of dawn to see the Magic come in. :teeth:

I have a spreadsheet that I'm updating as people give me their info. For anyone that feels comfortable doing so, please feel free to PM me with your real name and your cell phone #, so that I can let everyone know if there's a last-minute change in lunch location or anything else. I'll reply back with my own info so you can check with me about anything if needed.

Man, I wish DS & I had some of the stuffed Mickey hands! Those are so cool. I found them on Amazon, but at $25+ a pair, not especially affordable for me. :( Maybe they'll be handing out the cardboard hand-on-a-stick things like they did in New York. I wish they could put the ginormous longhorns on the front of the ship like they did when Voyager of the Seas first sailed from Galveston! That was a sight to see!! ::yes::

I just submitted a request on the DISign thread to see if someone can come up with something unique for a tshirt DISign here. Hopefully we will get something. Otherwise, you guys have seen what I have pieced together previously from existing images, and would throw in some bluebonnets, a windmill, and maybe a barn for the port's cruise terminal ;) but it would all be pulling from shareware online.

We have a car rented, and will be looking for a hotel room. (I know I am still getting the "What the heck are you doing?" look from hubby - and am already over my travel budget - but I figure I will just ask forgiveness later than ask for permission!) :rolleyes1

I just booked us into the Hampton Inn for the weekend. :). Now we won't have to make the drive before the crack of dawn and it's been years since we have been to Galveston. Count us in for sure, me and DH. I will PM you when I am on a real computer.
