Teeny whine/vent ahead. This will sound pathetic, so feel free to ignore. I'll flat out admit, I am short... normally it doesn't get to me. Save some clothing issues now and then and some itty bitty things where I need Luis to help me or have to grab a chair, it's no big deal. But every once in a while there are things I wish I could do that I can't. The stupid one that is getting to me is painting the bathroom. I physically cannot do it. I cannot clean the walls up in the corner because no ladder will fit and no chair will get me high enough to reach. the last time I tried I nearly killed myself. It just gets me so down that there are things I want to do in this house, but cannot because I get absolutely no help. I love Luis, but he just doesn't grasp that concept. He doesn't seem to get it that when i wnat to do something, I want to do it *NOW* not have to wait months or years on end for him to find the time to do it. I can't paint the bathroom because I can't reach. I can't do some things in the kitchen because I cannot move a fridge and a stove by myself. Somehow I feel like I am the failure because I physically can't.

vent over

Bethie, I sure wish I had taken your advice today. It probably would've done me some good to do that. Instead I took care of stuff around the house and well, you saw the vent, realized that I can't do some things by myself.

Funny you mentioned green, John... that's a color I am leaning towards with the bathroom. Wonder if there is such a thing.

Woo hoo Karen has pics... off to look at them now.

Lainey, I am sorry

Rebecca has had to fuss at me more than once because she wants to do something and is not physcially able to. I, on the other hand, am lazy and hate household projects with a passion.

Anyway, the vent seems valid to me ::yes:: and I hope y'all can work something out.

Elaine...sorry you are feeling frustrated!! My mom is the same way now, there are so many things she can't do that she gets very frustrated and upset with herself. As for the painting, have you thought about buying a long handled paint brush? We are getting one to do the tall wall in the dining room. I can stand on the ladder but it won't get me all the way up there (the wall is 12 feet tall  and then we are going to use it to do the ceiling too.

I iknow what you mean about moving things. Since i'm the only one in my house that can do those things I get frustrated when I can't do it because there is no one else to help!! Good luck to you!!

I've been lurking today. I saw the pictures of yours Karen... they are really good.

Off to lurk some more. strange schedule today with testing going on. yuck!!

Hey now. Let's leave Sue's mangos out of this conversation. I'm in enough trouble as it is. :stir:  ...

Thanks for letting me vent. Like I said mostly it doesn't get to me. But now and then there are the things I can't do.

Tara, I totally feel you with the moving of things. That actually ticks me off a lot of the time too. Just having to wait for someone really kind of sucks.

As for the long brush, honestly I will not be painting the ceiling. It's a teeny bathroom and I read that painting the ceiling the same color makes it look smaller. And I don't like that look ;) So a long handle would be good if I wasn't trying to do "precision work" in the corner. Or if I could acutally tape up the ceiling in the first place  I just don't trust myself with that kind of a reach. Honestly even with the chair I am about 8" off... too far for comfort.

Bleh, I'll hopefully get Luis to do it sometime soon. Easy to say that I didn't manage to go to Home Depot today... got too discouraged.

:bounce: I finished painting the family room :woohoo:
Only took me a bit over 4 hours too :teeth: Yep, I am proud. BIG room too :) But a big rectangle, not lots of edging and stuff. Lots of ceiling though....and yes, I do paint the ceiling the same color (is that a regional thing??) ;)
I thought it was going to be a 2 day job, but what can I say, I'm good!! :teeth:
I've done so many rooms now, I have my method.
Made Dave help me move the TV cabinet.

Hmmm..I did 15 ' ceilings last year, Tara. I had to actually tape a brush to an extender pole :rollyes: It was not fun and I never want to do it again, but it got it done. It was very frustrating though. I bought all those fancy extender things and they just did not do the job in the corners and such that I wanted.

Elaine....I still say step-stool ;)
I only go up the first step, so I bet higher would work for you. I just put it right in the bathtub.

I'm getting the dang server busy message too much today.....I finally had time to come on and it is being a PITA!

I have to tease Kimmar due to double post ;)
And trust me, I know I have a lot to learn :p

Nancy, honestly around here, I have very very rarely seen the ceilings painted. Well, they are, but they are usually white/ivory (something like that). I've always been told a ceiling painted the color of the walls will make it look smaller. Not something I want to do.

Oh and ladder/chair/step stool I found... nothing gets me high enough. No joke, I'm still 8" away at my tallest. Well the ladder would, but it won't fit. Tiny tub, and a decent ledge on it which won't let me get to the corner. Trust me, I've tried :(

Woo hoo on finishing! I'm so glad that you got it all done! Great job :)

Getting a server busy message a ton too

Odd....I am about 8" taller than you, Elaine and my step stool (and it is one of the shorter stools) puts my head on the ceiling....way too close to paint. How tall are your ceilings?

Here ceilings are usually painted to match the walls.....maybe our rooms are bigger :rotfl:
I have always had matching ceilings every where I have lived, except the awful sprayed popcorn ceiling phase
It must be regional.

I give up for now.....I have gotten server busy about 10 times in the last 15 mintues...it isn't usually this bad this time of day :(

But I did want to say :bday: :bday: to Lily :bday: :bday:
In case she checks in or for when she returns :cake:

I dunno Nancy... tall? :teeth: I know our ceilings upstairs are only about 7' tall if that. I'd have no trouble here. If I stand on my chair, then I am about 4" away from the ceiling. But we have short ceilings up here.
I know when Luis stands on a chair downstairs, at 5'10" he still has a bit of a reach, as in above his head a few inches, but head is no where near the ceiling... same with my dad who is just shy of 6' I wonder if this house has taller ceilings (built in 1947). I've watched both of those futz (if that's a word) with wiring on the ceiling before and had a ways to go to get to the top. If I stand on a chair downstairs to dust, I am still about a foot away from the ceiling (I dust our fan weekly and have a small reach to get to that one). I can barely reach it with my fingers standing on a chair. I think my reach is just not good enough even with a chair... I not only miss up with height, ubt my arms only have a 5' reach tip to tip... Luis' is just shy of 6' I noticed that makes a difference

That has me really curious now. I'm going to see downstairs what Luis can do in the bathroom...

But I can't believe I forgot this... even with my reminder this morning. I think by the time the thread loaded I was mentally elsewhere...

:bday: Happy Birthday Lily!!!! :cake:
I hope you had a wonderful time celebrating it while on vacation :)

...soooo, :confused3 you're 'vertically challenged'.... :teeth:

Hey Lily ~

George%201%20bday%20exhausted.jpg

Happy freakin' Birthday.....whatever

(Uhhhhh, Lil, don't mind HIM, he's po'ed cuz' "he" just became a "she"... :confused3 )

Lainey,

I did the bathroom all one color-a first for me. If the color is light, it doesn't make the room look small. Bedroom was done in a medium rose and it wasn't put on the ceiling for that reason (small looking).

I used the stepladder to do the ceiling. I've got a good stepladder where the top is a sturdy platform about 28"tall. It has the proof that I use it to paint!

Yes, getting out to do stuff for work is lots of fun. Love the difference that working for a small company offers me. BTW, the two young men from the culinary program were quite impressive. Yep, two more hires

Happy birthday, Lily! Hope it is/was a great one, my friend!

Morning!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LILY!!!!

Nancy, glad the painting is done. :bounce:
Don't know of anyone around here that has painted ceilings.

Jonathan has early dismissal today. I have to babysit, so not doing much today. Probably just more laundry. :rolleyes1

short and challenged, yep that's me!!!!

Suzanne, I think we are going for a not so bright color in the bathroom. I haven't decided yet. We looked last night together and it would be harder for Luis to get in there with the tub, but he could reach. The tub is sloped and unless it is as narrow as a chair, it won't fit. Actually makes me wish we had some stools, but oh well.... it'll happen when Luis wants it to.

Sherry, hope you enjoy the day! Laundry is my favorite to do ;) When are your boys done with school for the year? I know it has to be getting closer!

I didn't come in here last night due to the boards... kept getting server busy message, so I gave up.

Gwenie has a vet appt at 10 so I better get moving.

I'm not necessarily vertically challenged, but I am working on being horizontally blessed
