OKW is my home resort and I began with only 100 points but have 2009 points as well as an incentive. I am going to be booking the first week of November for my 40th birthday...just DBF and I. My questions are this:

~anyone out there just start off with minimal points? I am already feeling addonitis setting in and I havent even signed the papers yet. :rotfl:

~is the first of Nov a good time to go?

~would you go all out and do a 1 bdroom to have the jacuzzi and the larger space for your 1st trip home or would you be inclined to save points and just do a studio with it being just the 2 of us?

~is it a horrible thing that the first trip home be just me and DBF? My 17 yr old son loves Disney but we aren't doing parks this trip - DBF and I are going to be getting to know OKW and do some resort hopping...although he is a huge fan of DTD. *insert mothers guilt here* :guilty:

Welcome Home!!

I started out with 150 points but that didn't last long. I have added another 150 points over the years.

November is a great time to go. The crowds are low and the weather is still relatively warm.

Just a warning, once you go with a one bedroom it is tough to go back to a studio. :) But with the exta points, I would go for it.

Have fun!!

Congratulations! We started out with a 50 point contract. Of course, we added on in a week with another 130 through Disney for BLT.

I think you should go and enjoy your first trip! Now that you are DVC, your trips to WDW will continue and your DS can go plenty of time in the future.

I think it really depends on what your needs are in the next few years as to whether it makes sense to do the 1 bedroom or not.

The other option, is to book a split stay. We did it last summer to try different DVC resorts since we were new. You could do the same thing and do some nights in the studio, and a few in the 1 bedroom. It will save some of your points and give you a feel of both.

We are doing that again this summer--a few studio nights at BCV and then to BLT in the 1 bedroom. We figure it will feel like an upgrade for the 2nd part of our trip. Matter of fact, this is probably going to be the plan from now on as a way to make our points go farther.

We just bought 200 and as of right now are still good with it - we've only owne for a week though, so we'll see...:rolleyes1

Weather is good and park crowds are light. We scheduled our first trip for Oct 1-6

Had to laugh :rotfl: we are going to celebrate DH's 40th birthday -just like you -and run the 1/2 marathon. We are staying in a 1Bdrm at AKV. It's a standard view, so the pt cost is cheaper, and my husband wanted to splurge and have the jacuzzi. I say you're only 40 once and if you have the points, enjoy the 1 Bdrm! Our contract had almost all its 2009 pts, so we had them to spare.

How guilty do you think I feel - we have 4 boys - and our first trip is without them! We are so excited that it is just the two of us!:woohoo: We plan on all going in early June next year and we just went this February, so really I don't feel too bad.

Welcome Home!

I think we would be ok with a studio for the most part but really want to do a 1 bedroom so we can have the jacuzzi this first time.

When travelling with my son, if we did a 1 bedroom, he would have to sleep on the sofa and that would make me feel bad when we could get a studio with 2 real beds. And we will only be going 1x a year so if booking strategically, we can make do for now...but like I said, I feel addonitis coming on.

I guess us adults deserve some Disney time too! Mother guilt is the worst! Happy happy to your hubby! Enjoy! :woohoo:

I can imagine once you have the full kitchen and the jacuzzi tub it would be hard to go back to the 2 beds and regular tub. It's funny because I am more inclined to use the studio with my son coming for the 2 beds and use the one bedroom for just us...but thank you for the welcome home!

Anyone know where I can get one of those cool OKW siggys? :dance3:

I don't own at OKW, but have owned DVC for several years. My best advice is to do the 1BR. Studios are fine if you truly want to conserve points, but they aren't that much better than regular rooms at some of the deluxe resorts, so what's the point of saving the points if you have them? lol In all seriousness, you'll be glad you did the 1BR for the extra elbow room AND the jacuzzi. Welcome home!
