When buying direct, how soon is a “Welcome Home” trip normally scheduled, if at all?

The purpose of the Welcome Home call is to help you learn how to navigate DVC and bookings.

They will help new owners who want to plan a trip and it is already within the 11 month window and getting a room might be tough.

If I’m already an owner and just bought a new contract (direct) does that mean they would help me book a resort that’s sold out (cough cabins cough)? Asking for a “friend” who really doesn’t need any more points but keeps having bad days at work and just wants to dream about going to Disney.

Nope. The welcome home trip is only for brand new owners. I couldn’t even get help for my kids first trip as owners since I was on the contract as well.

I just bought my first contract and our first trip was for 9 adults and 2 children under 3. Was pretty well versed on the whole DVC thing so didn't need any hand holding but was hoping to some preferential bookings since our trip was in 5 months (September/22).

We were fine with split stays as we wanted to explore DVC as much as feasible so split up our 6 night trip into 3 resorts. The guide was able to pull some strings for one night at AKL but wasn't able to get a 2 bedroom at VGF as that resort is supposedly locked off in getting "Welcome Home" privileges. Settled for 3 Studios. Also was unable to get us anything for BC as we were hoping to use that pool for the tikes. We settled for SSR since we knew Disney Springs was going to be on the itinerary so it worked out fine. The resorts we got (AKV, VGF, SSR) all have great pools so kids and adults will manage:charac2:.

So if you're booking further out than 7 months, I suspect they can help other than VGF. We were just asking for a miracle with too short of a booking window even for them.

You are also trying to book for Sept. The fall frenzy starts in late Sept and hits full force from Oct-Dec. Believe it of not, you likely would have had more luck with a July or August trip, even though they are just 3-4 months out. The fall frenzy is real. If you want anything, book it either before 7 months, or at exactly 7 months. Many folks book the home resort before 7 months and look to switch at 7 months.
