Tuesday 24th March 2009

The day began much like any other - I got up, got washed and dressed, had breakfast and made my way to work. Then at 11:25 I did something I wouldn’t normally do on a Tuesday morning - I did online check-in for our flight tomorrow. The seats that had suddenly become available a couple of weeks before - 80H & K - were still assigned to us so I quickly printed our boarding passes before somebody could snaffle them from under our noses. The day then carried on like any other Tuesday and, thanks to a few last minute jobs coming in, I wasn’t able to leave until 5:00.

I made my way home and, with the traffic in my favour, I was home by 5:20, just in time to get changed as we had a cab booked for 6:00. At 5:30 the phone rang and it was our cab driver to say he was outside so by 5:40 we were on our way and we arrived at Gatwick just under an hour later.

We made our way up to twilight check-in where we found quite a queue, which we are not used to because previously we have arrived at around 3:00, and I decided that I will go back to having the day off on the day before we travel so we can once again get check-in done before the crowds arrive. We were all done by just after 7:00 and made our way over to the Sofitel where we checked in and were allocated room 244.

Please excuse the mess  , I didn’t take the photos until the following morning

After dropping off our hand luggage we went back into the North Terminal and into the Globe Free House where we had intended to have something to eat but even though it was only 7:30 they appeared to have stopped serving food so I had a pint of Carling and Dad had a bottle of Bulmers. We then made our way over to the South Terminal where we went into the Wetherspoons and had a Coke each plus a chicken, ham and leek pie for Dad and a bacon cheeseburger for me.

After eating we went back to the Sofitel and had a large brandy each before retiring to bed at 10:10 ready for an exciting day tomorrow.

Day 1

I always enjoy your trip reports! Looking forward to hearing how your trip went! :thumbsup2

Yay! You're like me, not remembering to take hotel room pics til the room has been sufficiently made a mess of!

David, you are something! Just got home, must be bone weary, and you have a cold on top of that--and still you're turning out a detailed trip report. You were born for this work. Happy to see the report, but, please, take it easy.

Ah, thanks Susan  No need to worry though - thanks to my trusty netbook and free internet at Saratoga all of the typing is done and this is just a copy and paste job. The cold is fading but the memories of our vacation won't. :thumbsup2

Great start David :thumbsup2

But talk about cutting it fine from arriving home to being in the taxi

Off to read more now :goodvibes

I planned a lot of things for this holiday but who allows for a cab driver being 20 minutes early. :confused3 ;) Actually the firm we use are great, last year they arrived a whole hour early and were happy to wait for half an hour because I wasn't ready.

I know I'd rather have a taxi waiting early....than pacing the floor for a late one :headache:

Looking forward to reading your full report. Nice start to your trip - wish that taxi firm were closer to where I live - I'd use them!

I'm another one who doesn't remember to take the room pictures until we've turned the room upside down! Great start, looking forward to reading the rest.

Laur's xx

great start off to read some more :goodvibes

Impressed that your reports have started :)

Agree that was cutting it fine from getting home from work and the taxi arriving

That's another reason why I'm going back to having the day before off work again. Despite my best intentions I can't get away from work early on the last day.
