Just wanted to post up a suggestion for people looking for things to do around orlando that aren't theme park related.
We spent a day at Wekiwa Springs State Park. You can rent canoes or kayaks and explore the Wekiwa River.
We spent a few hours canoeing down the river and saw all kinds of wildlife. There was lots of birds, turtles and even alligators laying out. It's a great way to see Florida how it used to be. Even without the animals, it's beautiful.
It's also nice to be outside, doing some physical activity that doesn't involve standing in crowded lines.
Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures. I sure didn't want to throw my iPhone into the river and have to dive in after it with the alligators and snakes and whatever else.
It only takes about a half hour to drive there from Disney and it's very inexpensive. Anyone looking for something off the beaten path to do while in Orlando should give it a look.
