Hi everyone. Will a cut up avocado pass through TSA (in a plastic container). I know an avocado can be mushed (like guac...) which I presume would be a 'liquid'... but if it's a cubed avocado is that ok?

LOL ok this is a weird question, sorry! :lmao:

It should be fine. If you are really worried, leave it whole and cut up after you get through security or after you board the plane. You can carry a plastic knife through security or get one at a food place after security.

Oh that's a good idea. And I guess doing it that way it won't brown :goodvibes

A lot depends on whether the line Airport Security Screener is a hungry, avocado aficionado.

Great rule of thumb is does it keep its shape outside of its container...ie yogurt does not keep its shape with out a container thus its a liquid and does not pass TSA...however if you freeze yogurt then it does keep its shape and is therefor a solid and does pass :)

the person ahead of me in line had her cupcakes confiscated because the frosting was considered a liquid. I think they gave her the option of just scraping the frosting off. They did let me go through with whole oranges though. I would keep it whole, you could even cut it up with a spoon, since you won't have a knife.

That reminds me two years ago; I was flying out the Saturday after Thanksgiving to Disney.

There was a couple returning home in front of me and they had two of his mom's homemade pecan pies in a cardboard box. They were confiscated because the filling is considered "liquid."

The guy was outraged and said they did it just because they wanted to get a piece of his mom's homemade pecan pie for dessert.:lmao:

The TSA agent, looked at him square in the eye, and said rules are rules, I don't know your mother or how good her pies are, but no one will be getting any of it.... boy, was he hot!

We once took a hard boiled egg through security as we were flying on Easter and my daughter wanted to take her dyed egg home. In spite of asking several TSA people if this would be an issue and being told "no", when we went through security we and our bags were pulled aside for extra searching. Grrr. I say, why bother! Leave the food at home.
