Weird question about holiday chocolates....

I don't care what holiday it is, I LOVE to have a big ole candy jar FILLED with those color coordinated chocolates (you know, those big bags of hershey kisses, little recee's, peppermint patties, kit kats, etc)

Red/Green for Christmas
Autumn Colors for Halloween & Thanksgiving
Red/White for Valentine's Day
Pastels for Easter

You get my drift. I just love the look of it sitting there more as a decoration than anything. Don't get me wrong....I am CEO of the chocoholics club. But I absolutely love to see a big candy jar or bowl filled to the brim with the chocolates to color coordinate with each holiday. The thing that gets me though......I want it to stay like that but my kids and DH think otherwise...LOL They will stick their big ole grimy hands in it and grab handfuls at a time, over and over and over again until the candy is no more. :sad2: Why can't they just keep their hands to themselves. LOL Don't they realize how pretty it looks and to maybe take 1-2 pieces at a time?

Am I the only one that freaks out about this? I would love to go to the store and buy a few bags but I know they'd be gone in a matter of minutes. LOL

I know, it's a stupid question but I just needed to vent for a sec. Thanks!!!

:) sounds like an excuse to buy more! That way you can keep topping off the display!!!!! There's no such thing as too much chocolate, right?

I do the same thing as far as decorating - to the point of getting the purple dark chocolate kisses before the holidays so I can put them in our living room with the purple and gold tree. However, it doesn't bother me that candy disappears as the days go by.:)

Happy Holidays!

It doesn't bother me either. I just keep spares in the pantry, because some things (like KitKats & Rollos) go really quickly around here.

I don't keep a jar full of chocolates on the counter, but....

We have a chocolate "drawer" in our kitchen! :guilty:

DH likes a cup of coffee and a "few pieces of chocolate" almost every evening. I always keep almond M&M's in the drawer, plus various other bags of chocolate candy. Right now there are the Nestle chocolate Jingle Bells, Butterfinger bells, 3 kinds of Hershey Kisses, and a bag of Rolos.

We just figure chocolate into our weekly grocery budget!! :rotfl:

When the bags get low, I just buy more. He loves his chocolate!!

I used to "decorate"' with candy too! It looked so pretty..:goodvibes My crew was pretty good about not touching it though because I had extras for eating.. If my DD tried to do that here - especially with chocolate - she would put it out one day and the next day it would ALL be gone - courtesy of her FIL who comes here every morning.. He won't buy candy, ice cream, or cookies for his own house - because he's "on a diet"..:rotfl: He just comes and eats everything here instead.. LOL..

OP-I'm kind of crazy about this too. IMO, they are there to look pretty, festive, etc. Yet, how can I deny someone chocolate when it's sitting right there?!?! SO... I buy in bulk and top off my containers!!

put a little crazy glue around the top of the jar and stick the lid back on. That will keep them out :rotfl2:

I have the prettiest crystal candy dish that I used to keep filled with seasonal M&Ms. It looked so nice!

Since we got a dog, though, I haven't put it out. He would surely eat the candy, and that might make him sick.

I can't even imagine having a candy jar full of candy in my house. It would be gone in a day. :rotfl: I bought a huge bag of mini Reeses to make cookies with a few weeks ago. I hid them in the back of the freezer under the veggies but my husband still found them. Even under vegetables! There are only a few left. I never have chocolate chips when I go to make cookies, either. He has no self control.

im too much of a chocolate addict to have something like this in my house, chocolate truffles:worship::worship:

I also love the look of a candy dish...but *I'm* the one who succumbs to temptation - lol, so I don't keep it out too long.

I did buy some like this:

They're glass. So they look pretty, but no one bothers them - lol.

Right now I have a Pottery Barn jar filled with red and green M&M's. I buy the big bags at Sam's Club, so that slows my crew down a little!!
