Weird Magical Express question

Hi everyone! I apologize in advance, this question might be a bit difficult to follow, I'll try to keep it as simple as possible!

Ok. My DH are going to Disney next week, leaving Thursday for 9 nights. I have a car booked with Alamo for a pretty good rate for the time we're there, which is good because prices are up around $500 now! :faint:

Here's the problem. I'm panicking a bit over a potential storm that may or may not bring snow to CT Wednesday night into Thursday. I'm so freaked out that I'm considering changing our flights to Tuesday, just to make sure we actually get to Disney.

IF we did that, I couldn't rebook our rental car, it's way too expensive. So is there any way we could use Magical Express to go to our resort in Tuesday, then have them bring us back to the airport on Thursday to get our rental car, even though we're not checking out? I'm sure the answer is no but I just thought I'd ask!

(Also, if you think I'm being crazy for even worrying about the weather and our flight getting canceled, please tell me! My DH thinks I've lost my mind! :rotfl2:)

Thank you!

I have heard of people taking DME back to the airport to get a rental car. I think you have to put in a fake flight for departure. And of course there won't be a problem getting to the resort upon arrival in MCO.

Make it easy on yourself... instead of going back to MCO to rent, do a "one way" from the car care center, swan, or one of the DTD hotels. Although there might be a slight price increase, weigh that vs. the 60-90 minutes (minimum) it would take to get back to MCO, get the rental car, then return to WDW.

Also, if you're staying at WDW the entire stay, use DME to get from MCO to your resort, rent the car while you're onsite, turn it in onsite, then use DME to get back to the airport for your return flight.

A few thoughts...yes, you can take DME to your resort, and then take it back the next day to pickup a rental car. I would recommend only one of you going back though.
Then again....you should check the Alamo site...you may be able to pick up a car for under $350, depending on the type car you need. And you can pick it up, and return it, at the Dolphin.

But, I wouldn't be overly concerned with the weather. It will most likely be fine....snow at this time of year usually isn't a huge deal breaker. Well, unless it's like the Oct storm last year!!!

If you decide to leave Ct early, then just tell the DME people, when you check in at the airport, that someone will be needing to take it back the following day. They should be able to put that into their system...whatever time you need to be back at MCO for.

I would check with Alamo (Call and talk with a live person) and see if you can change you pick-up point to the Swan or the Car Care Center at Disney. They may charge you an small extra fee but I think it could save you alot of time.

First, Alamo is at the Dolphin, not the Swan. And secondly, they don't really care all that much about customer's issues..sad to say. If a customer changes their plans, Alamo (and most of the companies) figure that the customer is going to have pay the addtl fees. They really aren't going to care very much about her plight. Every time you try to make any kind of change with a rental car, it's going to cost you..and usually a lot!!! So, if you choose to arrive on a different day, then you had best be prepared to either pay more, or to take the time to get back to the airport.

It will take the person who goes back to MCO, about 90 mins total...30 mins back, no more than 30 mins at MCO, and then 30 mins back to the resort. It will probably be closer to 70 mins.

Yes you can do this.

Or you can see if Alamo has a way to modify the reservation, and you can see if you can add on those days, and check out the price. I know with National I can go through the process of editing a reservation, but I can back out without making any changes, if I don't like what I see. They are part of the same company, so they probably have a similar editing tool on their websites.

Thank you everyone!

I looked into possibly renting a car from the Car Care Center, but it's way too expensive (I'm paying $171 for a standard car for 9 days, so when you compare over $300 with that, it's just way too much!) As long as I know you can take the ME back to the airport to pick up a car, I should be fine!

I'm just not sure if I want to switch our flights or not...I'm obsessively checking the weather, and while they are saying it could be a storm in CT, no one seems to know if it's actually going to happen! And they are going back and forth with when it will happen...first it's Wednesday, then it's Wednesday into Thursday...as of now, I'm just keeping my flight the way it is, and hopefully they will know more this weekend so I can switch if I have to before it's too late! I'm thinking maybe the weather people are just a little nervous because it's something that could happen so close to the hurricane we just had? Send good weather pixie dust for me! pixiedust:

Thank you guys again!

I have a similar problem. I would like to use Magical Express to get to Port Orleans for a four night stay, then I'd like to use Magical Express to get back to the airport, rent a car, and visit relatives for a few days, then return the car to the airport when I'm ready to catch my departing flight. Will Magical Express accommodate me when I want to return to the airport even though I'm not flying out then? Do I simply tell them this when I check in at the Magical Express Welcome Center?

You won't have any issue. You can just tell them what time you need to be there, and then they should be able to give you a pickup time that gets you there.
