Weird if I just want to go to DL?

My wonderful DH and I are approaching our 10th anniversary and are deciding on where we should go to celebrate. We would like to take a short 3 day trip due to work and the fact that we are leaving our 2 kids with grandma and grandpa.

The dilemma is whether to go to Napa, Carmel or Disneyland. Napa and Carmel are very close as we are in Northern California but DL will be about a 6 hour drive. Is it strange that all I think about is staying at the GC, going to the parks without kids and then spending another day shopping in LA? Neither Napa or Carmel are really appealing to me right now. Is that strange?

On a side note, we have been to both of those places before and they are gorgeous. I just can't see myself wine tasting or window shopping for long periods of time. AND we just got back from DW in February to top it off! What do you all think?

If we do go to DL, what can we do at the parks to celebrate? THanks!

I don't think its strange. My only thought is that it is your DH's anniversary too, would he be willing to spend the whole time at DL as well?

As someone who spent her 10 year Anniversary at Disneyland - I can officially say... YOU ARE NOT WEIRD!! :thumbsup2

But... this is coming from the couple who went to WDW 5 times last year and we don't even HAVE kids! So... take my opinion for what it's worth!!! (Oh... and we spent our last Anniversary at WDW too and DH promised me he would take me to Disneyland Paris for our 15th!!!)

I think it's GREAT - as long as DH is into the whole Disney thing too! And if you're both into it... WHO CARES what anyone else thinks???

This is funny - DH is from San Francisco and is turning 50 in July and I wanted to surprise him with a trip. My big dilemna was - where??? So I looked at SF and a Giants game and maybe Wicked at the Orpheum. We have friends there we could meet up with and know the nice places to stay, etc. And we haven't been together to SF (just the 2 of us) for a really long time. Romantic, right???

So, I talk to DH about it - it is HIS birthday after all and he says he wants to go to - DLR!! Really! Really, really. We went for my 40th b-day, just the two of us and he wants to go again for his 50th - just the two of us. I love DLR with just us! Although, our kids are a little ticked off because they don't know we are going together as a family in May! :lmao:

Go to DLR if that is what you both want to do. Have a great time. Have a nice dinner, shop, ride what you want. The cool thing about going w/out kids is you can ride whatever, whenever and as many times as you can. You don't have to worry about feeding anyone or making sure they are not tired or cranky. It is very liberating!

Oh no, go to DL! The whole time it takes atleast 3 days to enjoy it.
Don't bother with Napa.... I grew up there, BORING!
Overpriced you can get the best of Napa in DCA, Napa Rose; have a glass of wine look at the vines, your done :thumbsup2
Seriously Napa gets old...
There are so many "Napawannabe" towns all over Ca; it's a tourist trap
Stick to DL. :lovestruc
Oh no, winemakers of ca are gonna come after me now :rotfl2:

Not weird at all. My dh asked me where I wanted to go for my 40th birthday this year since for his 40th last year we took an Alaskan cruise. I said DL! I want to stay at the GCH too. I want to eat at the very nice restaurants that I would never dream of taking four kids to. I want to stroll at a leisurely pace through the park and just take in the atmosphere without rushing to the next ride. We'll see if any of this happens...I'm leaving it in his hands. But again...no, you are not weird! :)

Thanks for the input! My DH is so great that he says our trip is up to me! He will do whatever I want which is why I love him sooo much! :lovestruc

I am also looking forward to eating at the Napa Rose and enjoying the park without kids(although that can be great too.)

I didn't mention that we got married just 2 weeks before my birthday so I'm thinking of waiting a few weeks and getting in for FREE. O.K., I think I've made my decision!

While I really like Napa I see it as a day trip when I visit my friend up North. DL is a better way to celebrate!!

Why not go to Napa Rose and have a really nice anniversary dinner, and get the best of both worlds!

My DH is not a huge Disney fan, once or twice every couple years is good for him. But I have to say I am so shocked, he agreed it was more practical to make a one day trip to WDW for his birthday (wonder if I can talk him into two ;) ) instead on my birthday. I am due in August and I know inlaws will want to see the lil one but DH thinks October will be too soon so we will go in December, which means Christmas decorations  That also means I get to get my Gift Card here in DL :yay:

If you want more ways to celebrate, get your anniversary buttons, maybe relive your wedding day and get bride and groom mickey ears. BB also has a special romantic meal deal for two as do some of the nice TS places in the hotels. You can make DL romantic simply by holding hands and taking in the sights or having a nice snuggle on one of the dark rides :)

It's not weird, especially when you consider how far away Carmel and Napa are. Plus, aside from the spas and the restaurants, both Carmel and Napa can be done in one day each (personally, I can't really stand more than a day trip to either place, as much as I enjoy going to those places), whereas between DCA and DL, you've got enough poking around and riding and live entertainment to entertain you for at least a few days, if not more.

I took DBF to DL for his bday, it was just us, the kids stayed home with a friend. :) We had a GREAT time and so will you. We drive every time we go, 6 hrs isn't that bad really. :) Go go go!!!!! :)

Of course it's not weird! Do whatever you want to do. But on a side note, I am in Northern California too and it is pretty easy to do a Monterey/Carmel Disneyland combo trip. We have done this before- drive down stay one or two nights in the Monterey/Carmel area and then take highway one down south which is so pretty (it takes longer than 5 or 99 though obviously, but you can stop for lunch in hollywood or beverly hills when you cross back over to Anaheim which is fun) and then head over to Disneyland for a couple of days. We did this a couple of years ago and had a blast!

But do whatever makes you happy!

We are going to DLR for our 20th anniversary this June- just us for a week and we can't wait! We live next to Napa and I can't imagine finding that much to do there. DLR just sounds like more fun!

And we are doing what you said. DH's birthday is a few weeks after our anniversary so we are waiting and going then so he can get his free birthday gift card too.

We went for a minor aniversary (DH was working onsite in LA, so in the area) and it was REALLY romantic! We had dinner in DTD, watched the parade, and just wandered around.

We did ride scream'n, which was NOT good for me (yeah, motion sickness....) but we had a great time and still talk about it as one of our better anniversaries.

O.K....you have all talked me into going. We will also be there in June! We will arrive on June 4 and stay until June 6th. I will look out for a couple with anniversary and a birthday pin!:woohoo:

Awww, we'll miss you! :sad1: We are going at the end of the month because DH's birthday is the 30th. But happy to encourage anyone to make another Disney snowball. :rotfl: Have fun!
