Yes, for snacks we do pickles and pineapple!!!! Meals, I generally split with my daughter, count it up and move on. I have found I do pretty well there, but I do it as if "This is life, and if I mess up one day, enjoy life too much one day, I get back to normal the next." I don't consider WW a diet, but a life style change. And there will be days where I enjoy life more. I do end up more at Carthay, STeakhouse 55, and Carnation. I do more protein and fewer sugars. My problem tends to be I really only drink at the resort, so avoid the sweeter drinks that I do love, and go more with alcohol forward drinks.
Before your trip, take a look at the menus to get an idea of the best places to eat. I usually use www.allears.net. DL has gotten pretty good about offering healthy menu options. Most restaurants are good about accommodating special requests as well. You can make small changes, like ordering a grilled chicken sandwich without mayo, only eating half of the bun, and having a side of fruit instead of fries. Some places have low-cal salad dressings.
I try not to stress too much about eating on vacation. Just make the best choice you can make at the time. Have a little treat here and there and jump right back on the points tracking as soon as you get home.
Sharing is the key for me. Meals are all really big there so share whenever you can. Then, we get all of the snacks we want, but share among 3-4 people (Dole whip, churro, beignets, etc)
While it is tough to surprress the willpower with everything being dangled in your nose...simply making better choices is the key. There are lots of healthier options avaialabe.
When I get a sugar craving for example and could devour two churros and a Coke...I first go for a package of the mangos which are everywhere and bottle water and 9 times outta 10 that solves my craving completely with zero mental or physical regrets.
For the 10th time I just enjoy every sugary glandular inch of that heaven!
I'm Lifetime WW and I've always just concentrated on portion control rather than what I ordered. I also concentrate on trying to maintain rather than lose when I'm on vacation. Just try to remember your 'portion sizes' and keep a mental diary (or write down) what you've eaten. Choose water or unsweetened ice tea. Diet sodas can actually make you crave sugar.
It's hard when stuff costs so much there but I'd rather take three bites of something I'm craving and throw (or give) the rest away rather than eat the whole thing 'because I paid $$$ for it, I don't want to waste it!'.
I also find that I do so much more walking that I can usually afford a small daily 'splurge'. If you do, choose wisely; have something (smallish) that is exactly what you crave or don't splurge that day. In other words, if you're craving a Mickey Bar don't 'settle' for a churro just because it's also a sweet treat. Get the Mickey Bar or don't splurge.
This is a good portion guide for when you can't actually 'weigh and measure'
I really stick to the plan a couple of weeks leading up to the trip and then I do not worry and eat as little or alot as I want in the parks because I know it's a trip and I want to enjoy and not be worried. Once I'm back home I'm back on plan. I always seem to gain sometime of weight, especially if I'm eating more salt than usual and especially when we fly!
I've had 4 churros in one day and never gained weight because of all the walking!
We just got back from WDW and we walked 80,000 steps in four days at the park!
I like to salald with grilled chicken at Smokehouse grill. They have fat free Italian dressing too. Skewers from Bengal. Grilled fish at Carnation, Carthay or Blue Bayou with extra veggies and no potatoes.
Grapes or pineapple for snacks and a couple bites of whatever sweet treat my kids get. I've been three times on WW and always come home with a loss. All the extra walking and I don't snack much because we are go-go-go.
The French Market has a roasted chicken with veggies and mashed potatoes on the side. Ask for more veggies instead of the potatoes. Also, the Plaza Inn has fried chicken that's fantastic! It's three pieces of chicken with veggies and mashed potatoes and gravy. My husband and I will get one plate and buy another piece of chicken, so we each have two pieces of chicken and share the sides.
