Weight realted reality shows - Fudging the weight?

Has anybody else ever watched those shows and thoguht that they may be fudging the weight of the participants when they put them on the scale?

The camera adding a few pounds doesn't explain it. I'm seeing people that are much bigger than people I know, and the shows give their weights as at least 50 lbs. lighter than they could be given their size.

i've never watched these shows. But I very strongly believe Kristy Ally lied about her starting weight. There is no way she weighed what she said and was as big as she was. I can understand not wanting to own up to her weight. But Jenny Craig lost out because they can't claim all the weight she lost on their program.

I'm wondering if Kirstie Allie started losing some before her gig with Jenny Craig.

Not familiar with Kirstie's story these days but if it's anything like the VH1 show, thye may have lost the weight they said, but there is no way the starting weight was accurate. Especially the men on the VH1 show. Each is quite tall, and were quite thick when the show started, and they had them weighing a good 50 pounds less than other people I know that are that height and size.

I wondered that about the “Biggest Loser” when I watched a few episodes of it last season. Of course, since everyone carries their weight so differently it can be really hard to tell.

Out of curiosity, what did Kirstie Alley say her starting weight was? Does she say how much she weighs now?

She said she was around 200. By the look of her before pics I say that's only true if she was 4'10! She looked at least 250 to me, if not 275. Now she looks around 150-160.

I think all celebrities lie about weight.

wow - yeah i agree it's highly unlikely that she was only 200. do we know how tall she is? i always thought she was on the taller side and trust me at my highest i was not as heavy looking as she was and i was WAY over 200 (i'm 5'10"). actually, i am still a smidge over 200 and i look better than kirstie on the commercials these days.

They definitely are fudging the weight on that Celebrity Fit Club. I've thought that many many times. There is no way Kirstie Alley was 200 lbs.

but we're not being paid to lose weight. We don't weigh in publicly. We don't encourage people to try a product based on our weight loss. If they are lying and I thinik they are it's dishonest, immoral and possibly illegal.

Not I. I won't even divulge it to my DH. He went to the doctor with me one day, and I wouldn't let him stay while I was weighed.

I gladly and truthfully share if people ask.
I also think they fudge their weight by much more than 50 pounds on some of these shows. I'm thinking in the hundreds at times. Liars liars pants on fires.

I wouldn't go as far as illegal. Speaking just about the shows, the fraction of reality involved was taken away when those guys got up there and they put them at anything less than 275. I would think the audience for those shows would be watching because they can relate.

That all goes out the window when the viewer guesses in their head, and then they spit out a weight that couldn't be accurate unless the show was filmed on the moon.

In the case of Kirstie Ally, who CARES what her weight was and whether she disclosed her actual weight? The point is that she's lost 50 pounds on Jenny Craig. What's "dishonest, immoral and possibly illegal" about that? Nothing. As long as she's lost at least 50 pounds.

As far as the shows are concerned--well, I don't watch them so I can't comment except to say that unless you're right there at the scale, you have no idea what a person's acutal weight is. I'm terrible at guessing weight--and nearly always guess about 50 pounds less.

I think this every week when I watch the Big Loser - the women's weights are what I question but I just compare it to myself - I guess...

i do. i actually posted my starting weight here on the dis once. if people ask me, i have no problem actually telling them.

Maybe I am just in denial but I love watching the biggest looser and now the girls are down to what I weigh... Well I think that they look larger than me by a good bit. I keep watching it and telling dh...my lord, do I look that big?? I mean, I know I am overweight and I have a good bit to loose...ugh how well I know that..lol BUT I swear I just did not think I looked as big as some of them look.... and really they look SOOO much better now and can tell they have lost a lot of weight. Still.. I am just hoping I do not look my weight I guess! Hmm...

Wow, I didn’t realize that Kirstie Alley claimed her starting weight was 200. I absolutely do not believe that. I would say 275 would be more accurate. Not to bash her, but I feel honesty is important when you choose to be a weight loss company spokesperson. I do applaud her for her weight loss though, regardless of her starting weight.
