Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! Spending the day with my kids.....which always has it good points and bad points.:confused3 My dad is taking us all to lunch today!

Thanks Nancy for dropping by and the birthday wishes!

The race.......well, I do not see that Jr. was at fault for the 'big one'. He was racing hard, and trying to get back on the lead lap. Vickers has a problem......it wasn't like he was racing for the lead for pitty's sake. I put all the blame on Vickers.......what was he thinking??????:confused3 I think calling the race so early was wrong. Not the way to win a race like that. Jr. didn't even have a chance to get anything back. Any other race, we wait HOURS to see if the rain stops. It was not my favorite race to watch. JR is still #1 for me!

I am up in the air with what my workout will be today. I could do Pilates later with my Miss. Nancy, or run outside after lunch. Not sure.....I will keep you updated on the decision! (I am sure you all will be on the edge of your seats!)

Beth

Happy Birthday, Beth!! :dance3: party:

Debra-- I was totally laughing when I read your post about DOOD's beer. IPA's are like the ONLY beer I won't drink. Yuck. DH LOVES them though, so that's what he buys when he doesn't want me to get into his stash!!

Tracey--I am in search of a St.Patty's race with beer too! I've almost been talked into a 12k that weekend, but I think I am going to stick with my plan of only 5k's for awhile.

So, I totally rocked my Valentine's 10k!! Garmin said, 6.3 miles, 1:13, 11:40 average pace. Which is FAST for me for that distance. For 5K's I manage sub 11's pretty easily, but for anything over 4, I am 12-12:30 minute miler. I couldn't believe it. Just a perfect day. Beautiful weather, flat as a pancake course. No shin pain. I did use biofreeze pre race on my shins, just in case. I was drinking a beer by 11 am!!I drank beer all afternoon at home :rolleyes1 , and we got pizza for dinner. Not totally romantic, but it's what I wanted. DH and I will go out for a real dinner date when MIL is here in a couple weeks to watch Delena. I crashed by 9 pm. Now, that is pretty sad! :lmao:

Also, lost .5 pounds last week. I had hoped for a bit more, but I'll take it.

I was back on the no booze wagon yesterday. New shoes should be here tomorrow. I sure hope they are. When I ran on the TM today, my shins were hurting again. They hurt way less outside. :confused3

Have a good day everyone!

Hi Meaners! Just a quick drive-by for me today ... I had a great Valentine's Day weekend! Although I think too much of it has to do with food ... DF and I made macadamia nut pancakes along with the macadamia butter from Kona Cafe. I had to put the butter away in the freezer, otherwise I would have gone through an entire loaf of bread. I worked out with my PT today and he's pushing a lot harder. I asked why and he said because I'm not running, so he wants to make sure my cardio levels stay up (I think running is a lot easier).

Debra - Yum! Thai food!! One of my favourites! Which movie(s) did you and DOOD watch? So far, the only Oscar nominated movie I've watched is Slumdog Millionaire. Did you take your pills and do your pilates today? ;)

Cindy - pixiedust: I hope you're able to run in your race!

Beth -:bday:

Amy - Congrats on your 10K!! That's an awesome time :cheer2:

Jeff - Cute!

Tracey - That sounds like such a fun Valentine's day tradition. I wish my family did more stuff like that. I took my dad out for brunch the day after because my mom is out of town. But I don't think he's really into the whole Valentine's day thing :)

Hello Lean Meaners!

Debra - It's great that you're attacking those hills. They will be yours soon. Congrats on finding a track for your speedwork. I don't know if/when I'll ever get to the point of trying to work on speed. It sounds like you had a nice Val Day. Did you do your pilates and take your pills?

Jeanne - It sounds like you had fun in NYC. :cool1:

Beth - I recently joined FB too, but I don't know if I want to re-connect with anyone from HS. I have 2 very dear friends from HS, who I see all the time. That might be enough for me. Happy belated Birthday! :bday:

Tracey - Your Val Day tradition is sweet! :lovestruc Are you enjoying the long weekend with your kids? Mine had Friday off as well as this whole week. I hope I have enough activities planned to keep us all happy.

Mike - Congrats on your first post-surgery walk! :thumbsup2

Cindy - Sorry to hear about your cold. I hope it's gone soon. Good luck with your marathon! :cheer2:

Amy - Congrats on the great pace at your Val 10K!

As for me, not a good weekend as far as eating goes. Sat was just a really busy day, filled with grabbing food on the run. DH & I also ordered Chinese food for dinner. I love Chinese food and we hardly ever have it since DD has severe peanut/tree nut allergies. The good news is that I'm running a half marathon in May and I've officially started training today. I'm hoping that having a plan to stick to will keep me motivated. I also got to try out my new ipod while running today. It was great to have music to run to, but the earphones would have fallen out of my ears if I hadn't been wearing a hat. I hope that some different earphones will solve this problem. Otherwise, I'm going to look pretty silly wearing a winter hat while running this summer. :upsidedow

Hey Lean Mean Brigade!

How're we doin'? I did 6 mi yesterday and 4 this morning, but my scale did not go down...sigh. Well, at least now I have something to work towards! :thumbsup2

Julie -- I don't know if this would work for you, and it depends on the type of earphones you have -- but I use my headband to help hold them in place. I'm surprised at how much a little piece of cloth makes a big difference. :goodvibes

Vicky -- I agree with you, running is the easiest way to get your heart going! Good for you, pushing through with the PT. You are definitely going to be lean, but never mean! :flower3:

Jeff -- Any more good Lostie tidbits? You always know something...;)

AmyK -- What a fantastic race! You are awesome, girl! :cool1:

Beth -- So did you join Nancy or do your own thing? She is rockin' the weight loss, and I know it's because you are pushing each other. You both are setting a fine example!

Tracey -- I think the Force will be with you! What a cool team name! :yoda:

Chris -- I'm glad you listened to your body. Some days it just needs a break. :)

Cindy -- I hope you are feeling better! What did you decide about the marathon? Hopefully some sunny days will drive that cold away (I know, it's not that warm, but maybe the vitamin D...) :wizard:

Mike --Who says 44 isn't a milestone?! If it's big for you, I say celebrate! :cake: Being a single parent when you aren't used to it is totally stressful. I'm thankful for my dh every day, and I'm sure your wife is, too!

Debra -- Who doesn't love Thai food? It's one of those indulgences that is perfect for a celebration. I'm glad you found a track, now if it has some bleachers you can do a Vic imitation! :yay:

Jeanne, Stacie, Wendy, Connie, Dave -- I know you guys are working out like demons. Please don't put us completely to shame! :goodvibes

Everyone have a great day, and let's get losing! :upsidedow
Maria

Mornin' Lean Meaners!
Maria...you rock! It's sooooo early and you've already gotten 4 miles in.:worship: Thanks for always writing such sweet and thoughtful posts, you make me smile:goodvibes .
Julie....I have the same problem with my ipod ear buds. My DS has some that hook around your ear and they seem to work better. I usually do what Maria does and hold them in with a headband or BondiBand. I've really thought about joining FaceBook, let me know how it goes. Have fun with your kiddos this week. Is it Spring Break already?
Jeff...How was lunch with Beth and her Dad?
Vicky...Macadamia Nut Pancakes and butter sound phenomenal. Yum! That is so sweet that you took your Dad out. Even if he's not into Valentine's, I'm sure he loved spending time with you.:lovestruc
Amy...:cheer2: :yay: :cheer2: WTG on rockin' the race! Awesome time, girl! Then you followed up with pizza and beer...sounds like a perfect day to me.
Beth...Hope your birthday was wonderful. Where did your Dad take you? Did you get something special?
Everybody....

I ran my 4.3 mile route yesterday with LOTS of hills and my hamstrings are feeling it today! Last night was also my exercise class and one of the gals is turning 50 today, so everything was done in counts of 50.....50 second planks, 50 crunches, 50 squats...:scared1: ! After my run yesterday, I walked up a few houses to pet the neighbor's dog (I always do, she waits for me) and she jumped up on me and her claw ripped a hole through my pants. Ouch! When I got home it really burned, so I looked and I have a 6 inch scratch down my leg that is now blue and swollen on both sides. My DH told my mom and dad last night that he hopes my leg doesn't fall off and he has to put me down! Ha, Ha, he's so funny!;) When he finally looked at it he said, "Holy cow, put some Neosporin on that!":scared:
Take care friends and have a great day!

Hey Everyone!

Thanks again for the encouragement!

Got in 4 miles last night and they were all great. Really cleared my mind and helped me stop freaking out about running. I have one of these every so often. :rotfl:

Lets keep it up........

Good morning Meanies! Boy, you are all up and at'em early today! Good work!

Yes, lunch was great. We ended up going to a really big buffet place called Shady Maple in Lancaster. I got my meal free, since it was my birthday. It was a holiday, so they had great choices. They had steak, and a few seafood choices that were excellent. My kids thought they died and gone to heaven. We don't eat out much at all, so they were loving it! Including the dessert bar.....make your own sundaes. We waited for Jeff, but he didn't show up!

Maria: I got to the gym early, put in 3miles on the elliptical, and then joined our Nancy for Pilates! I have to say that doing my Bender ball Pilates for the last few weeks has helped me tremendously in Pilates class. I could do the more advanced movements without hurting! :cool1: Yes, Nancy is kicking butt with the weight loss so far!!!! I have lost about 9 pounds (almost) since we started, but I sure am working for it!

Amy: Nice job on the race!!!! Nice when all the stars, moons, and planets aline themselves to give us a good, decent run! Cherish those moments, they don't happen often enough!

Julie: I use the headphones that sit on the outside and around back of my head for just that reason. My ears are shaped funny, and I can't keep any ear buds in at all!

Well, I was going to get up early and run on the TM, but got up with a headache instead. Just couldn't get up and get it done with a headache to beat the band. Hoping that the headache gets better to work out later.....

Beth

OMGoodness! I missed Beth's Birthday celebration post!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BETH!
 :dance3: :drinking1 :bday: :cake: :flower3:

Your b-day/V-day celebration sounds wonderful, as does yesterday's lunch. That's cool, how the Bender Ball Pilates has helped with your class so you can see your progress. it's also very cool that both you and Nancy are big losers--WTG with the 9 pounds. And you/we probably don't think about this as anything "odd," but I want to point out that on your special weekend you also put in all that good exercise. Out in the "other" world, a lot of people "take off" holidays and birthdays. You didn't, and I think it's worth noting that exercise is something that is truly part of your lifestyle. :woohoo: (That said, I hope your headache goes away....)

Mike: I remember now. I think you posted that on WISHers turning 40 thread. You're one of those guys that makes me rethink my unofficial cougar status. Purrrrrrr. (That's for you AND the scotch.) I figured Macca had washcloths or sponges in his shirt. It was just such an odd look. I bow to his speed and strength, of course. :worship:

Cindy: Ooooh, I hope you feel better. Those colds can be the worst, feeling like you have, mostly, the strength to run but perhaps aren't able to breathe correctly/enough to do the race. Good luck on making your decision.

Chris: Sorry to hear about your running challenges. Who's in charge of your Goofy training? You or your body? :rotfl2: Seriously, though, DOOD just had the same thing happen. He ran his 9 miler this weekend and said it was harder than the marathon on him, mentally and physically. :confused3 He's been sick and thinks he lost a lot of conditioning. Maybe the same has happened to you? Of course, you've already done the right thing by just getting out there again! :thumbsup2

Jeff: Love the comic!

Tracey: I love the Rebel Alliance name, and see you're sporting the team icon Suzann made. It's awesome! I think you'll love being on a team for the motivation and support--don't let it take time away from us! (Your training, too. ;) ) I love your "quirky" V-day tradition. Maybe next year DS15 will bring a sweetie & have the best of both worlds. Good compromise, or your idea of a nightmare? It would definitely be the nightmare of a teenage girl! :rotfl2: Ouch, sorry to hear about the full-body contact love with the neighbor's love. I'm sure she was just excited to see you, but still....Neosporin, indeed!

Amy: Great, great job on your 10K. WTG with maintaining your speedy pace and without shin pain. (Sure the new shoes will help with the TM running.) It sounds like you had the perfect V-day race. You so deserved that beer. Oh, and beer! And wouldn't you know, and DOOD loves his IPAs. (And here I was, just impressed I remembered what an IPA is.) He just had a Dogfish Head India Brown Ale that he liked and has a Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale in the fridge. (Yes, I like you well enough that I got off my keister to go look!)

Vicky: That's it--next V-day I'm showing up at YOUR house for pancakes. Mmmmm. Your PT sounds very good at what he does. I'd hate him, or at least swear at him under what little breath I still had. :rotfl: Pills, no Pilate yesterday. :sad2: I worked out but the day got away from me. Today, pills with 3 miles (lunch) and pilates (tonight) on tap! Thanks for continuing to ask. I really need it. :thumbsup2

Julie: Oooh, I love Chinese food, ESPECIALLY with nuts. It sounds like a very special treat for you and DH because of DD's allergies. ( for her--that must be tough to manage.) Yay for the 1/2. I have the same problem with earphones and have yet to decide on new ones. I go through earphones a lot, so tend to default to my standard iPod ones between other pairs. The ones I have my eyes on next are the Sennheiser brand. Um, yeah, about me working on speed by running on a track. Maybe I'm more excited by the idea the track is flat? :rolleyes1 :lmao:

Maria: I say great, great job with the 10 miles in two days! (Doesn't that sound so much more intense, for some reason?!) You've been doing a great job prioritizing you, which in turn benefits your entire family and sets a great example! :yay:

Facebook Folks: Lots of us WISHers there....just sayin'!

As for me: Not much new going on...yesterday I made the mistake of bringing a good new book with me to the gym, so I shifted my WO so I could stay on the elliptical and complete it. I should have done weights. I'm such a sucker for a good book. Remind me to bring the B-list reading next time. ;)

Today, a SR and pilates. I might see another movie tonight, too, so maybe an extra long WO today to offset. I saw "The Wrestler" yesterday--President's Day--in prep for the Oscars. I'm not convinced that it's Mickey Rourke's performance that has him nominated as much as those pesky real-life parallels everyone's making. Still, a solid if predictable film.

Hi Lean Meaners!

Vicky - Your Valentine's Day breakfast sounds yummy! I agree that running is the easier way to get your heart going. Good luck with your workouts. :thumbsup2

Maria - Congrats on getting those runs in. You are on a roll lately - 6 miles yesterday and 4 today! :cool1: Thanks for the suggestion of using a headband to keep the earphones in place. I was leaning toward duct tape, but I like your idea better.

Tracey - Thanks to you too, for the headband suggestion. As for why my kids are off from school, they get a week off in Feb and another week off in April. So, we're keeping busy with playdates and they're teaching me how to play some of the new Wii games that they got for Christmas. Sorry to hear about the dog scratch. I hope it doesn't get infected. I'm sorry, but I had to laugh at your DH's comment because my DH would say the same thing. They think they're so witty, but we know better... :rolleyes1

Beth - I'm glad you had a nice birthday lunch. :goodvibes I guess I have funny-shaped ears too. Maybe I should go back to having big hair in an effort to hide my oddly-shaped ears. If the headband suggestion from Maria and Tracey doesn't work out, I will look for the kind of headphones that you mentioned. Sorry to hear about your headache. I hope it's better soon. I have had a headache for the past 3 days. I think it's allergy related. We've had some really windy weather and I think it has stirred up a lot of stuff and triggered my allergies a bit early this year. :sad2:

Debra - I hope you enjoyed your book. Don't be too hard on yourself - you were still working out while you were reading. It's not like you were lounging on a sofa eating bon-bons while reading (not that there's anything worng with that either  ). I think it's great that you have a flat track to run on. Even if you don't work on speed too often, it will balance out those hills. :thumbsup2

As for me, I've been getting my short runs in, but haven't had much motivation for yoga and/or pilates. I always find it hard to be motivated when the kids are around (I'm doomed once summer rolls around :scared1: ), plus I'm tired by the time they're in bed! I also was forced to make brownies yesterday. Ok, maybe "forced" is too strong a word. Maybe I just wanted to make them. But the good thing is that most of them were eaten by kids (double playdate yesterday) and they're all gone now.

Have a lean, mean week everyone! :goodvibes

Julie: Good luck with training for your ½. Hopefully all the snow and ice are behind us now. Are you running Boston Run to Remember? I’ve been thinking about that one. I’ll have to see how the Spring turns out for me. Check out baevents.com for a bunch more races. There is a summer series in Cambridge – not all the dates are listed. Your race entry includes a big BBQ and kids under 10 eat free.

Debra: Pills and Pilates today? I hope you are enjoying all your movie going. It’s great you’ve found a track to run on. I didn’t realize that Pittsburgh winters allowed nearly year-round running. Do you get much snow?

Beth: Belated birthday wishes. Congrats on the 9 lbs. That’s awesome. Hope the headache is better.

Chris: I’m glad the rest days helped. Sometimes that’s all you need. I too freak myself out about running from time to time. It’s all part of the addiction.

Tracey: Good job on your hilly run and the 50’s exercise class. Sorry about the dog injury, I hope it heals quickly. We have a similar Vday tradition in our house. My DH hates Valentine’s day, so I started having a candlelit dinner with the kids and they love it. We usually invite my MIL too, so she’s not alone.

Maria: Be patient with that scale. If you continue to put in that kind of mileage, it will start to move.

Vicky: Your breakfast sounds yummy. Good job putting the butter away before you ate it all. It’s great that you PT is pushing you, it will only mean good things.

Amy: Great job on your 10K race. Sounds like a great day for you. Good job getting right back on the wagon after your treat on Vday.

Jeff, Vic, Wendy, Jeanne and others: Hope training is going well.

As for me….my cold is improving. I’m not 100% yet, but I still have a few days before the race. At this point I’m planning on running. I figured, the race and pre-race dinner are already paid for, the hotel had some sort of cancellation penalty so I can’t get all my money back for that, the babysitter is all lined up so I might as well head down there. If I’m not feeling great during the race I can just take it easy. My goal is still to break 4 hours, but if it doesn’t happen – oh well. The forecast is for 32 degrees and snow showers. I would have liked a bit warmer temps, but then it would be rain, and that would be far worse. We shall see…

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Good morning Meaners! So, another Wednesday on the books! Tonight will be ds#2 last basketball game, so YIPEE! I do like watching them in their sporting events, but it cuts into my workout time!

Tracey: How's the leg? Hope its better! :wizard: :wizard:

Debra: Did you do your Pilates and take your vitamens????? Please do!

Cindy: Good luck with the race, and I hope you are feeling better!:wizard:

Vic: Are you back yet? We want stories, man!

Jeff: Nice job on the miles! :thumbsup2

Julie: I happened to be at the Wal-Mart the other day, and saw the BIGGEST box of Lucky Charms I have ever seen! My ds#2 was wanting that box, but I knew NO WAY. I would still be eating Lucky Charms! They are magically delicious!

Maria: I am going to boycott my scale. I was down Monday.......eating well, exercising, and went up a pound today! Whatever.....drives me insane!

So, last night was a workout and a half! I got Pump class in, and it was tough! After dinner, I got myself on the TM for 3 miles and 40 minutes. I will have to be working full time starting next week, and have decided to get up before work at least a couple times a week to get some miles in early. It's hard to leave all the workout until the evening, especially since the family really likes to eat dinner every night (  ) So, I will try to spread out the workout time in the early morning, leaving time for my classes in the evening. That's my plan now, but we will see how that actually works out!:confused3

I hope everyone is enjoying the wagon ride!

Beth

Cindy - I hope your cold is gone before the race. I'm sending somepixiedust: to you for your health and the weather. As we know here in New England, the forecast is seldom correct, especially this far out. Good luck and have fun! :cheer2: Also, thanks for the info on the local races. I'll definitely check that out. And, yes, the Run to Remember is the half that I'm doing in May.

Beth - I am impressed with your will power. :worship: I honestly don't know if I could have passed up a big box of Lucky Charms! Why do they have to taste so good? Why couldn't LC taste like brussels sprouts and vice versa?

Hey Mean Team!

I did 4 mi this morning before settling into a day with ds, as Julie pointed out, it's February Vacation Week! DH and I tend to alternate days, so neither one of us misses a ton of work, and we both get good one-on-one time with the progeny.

That meant I didn't get to DIS all day. DS kept me busy with the Wii and his report on Thurgood Marshall. I like Wii bowling -- I got 7 strikes in one game, which would never happen at a real bowling alley! :woohoo:

With pardons from those of you on Team Ohana who have already read this... Tomorrow I'm hosting a luncheon for our program directors. It's an evaluation -- where they tell me what they did and didn't like about our funding application process. But since there's food, they should be in a good mood. Plus, they really did a great job this year with a new activity, so I went to the dollar store and got everyone a little award, and we made certificates for each person. I think my favorite title is, "Sunglasses at Night", for someone who was working the 3rd shift while trying to get through our process. It's a little tough when the rest of the world is asleep...she's getting giant plastic sunglasses. I'm hoping everyone will leave laughing and realizing they are appreciated.

Cindy and Julie -- DH registered for the Run to Remember. He asked me if other people there would be wearing their WISH shirts? :confused3

Beth -- The morning workouts are the best for me. I love to be up before everyone else, and I just do better. I feel better. I'm not tired from my day, and I start the day with confidence -- ok, until I step on the scale. I agree, I'd boycott mine too if it weren't for the BL! :lmao:

Debra -- It's never a mistake to read a good book. While the timing may not always be conducive to other activities, broadening your mind and refilling your spirit are also vital to good health! :goodvibes

Tracey -- How are you healing? I am terrified of large dogs! You get the bravery pin, I know that hurt!

Julie -- A double playdate?! You are also a brave, brave soul! My ds is angling for another sleepover. He's going to have to keep working at it, because this weekend is not conducive to turning my house into Tweensville again. :scared1:

Ok, it's getting close to Lost time, and I haven't gotten ready for tomorrow yet. Jeff -- Please make sure everyone is safe on the island! :thumbsup2

Howdies to everyone I missed!

Happy Tomorrow!
Maria :upsidedow

35 EASY minutes on the bike...knee doesn't hurt but i'm taking no chances...Ice, aspirin and a nice tumbler of dewars on tap next.

35 EASY minutes on the bike...knee doesn't hurt but i'm taking no chances...Ice, aspirin and a nice tumbler of dewars on tap next.

Hey Mike -- Caution followed by medication...an admirable approach! I hope your knee continues to serve you, without any pesky pain!

Maria :surfweb:

Mike: Sounds like a recipe for success! I'll have to write that down for the next workout! How's the knee? What did the doctor say? :confused3

Maria: I know......our little biggest loser competition is keeping me chained to my scale at least once a week. Where do the stray pounds come from, anyway? A question for the ages........

Julie: I don't know why Lucky Charms have to be so good......but have you tried the Kashi Go Lean? They actually copied the taste of Sugar Smacks! If they can make a 'healthy' cereal taste like Sugar Smacks, then they can do it with Lucky Charms! I would be the first in line to try it too! But, seriously, that box I saw was TWICE as big as the previous big one! I never saw a box of cereal that big before! I wanted to buy it just because it was humongous!

So, I got 3 miles in on my TM yesterday before ds#2 basketball game.....it was the best I could do, since I was a little lazy when I got home from work and laid down for awhile......I was really tired! But, I did get up in time for 3 miles before dinner and game! It was something at least.

I couldn't really be better in the eating department right now, but the weight sure isn't coming off. I really don't know why, but I will continue on and hope for the best!

Beth

Maria - Good luck with the luncheon today. :thumbsup2 I think it's great that you and your DH alternate days off during school vacation week. Your DS must love having one-on-one time with each parent. I am signing up for the Run to Remember this week. I will probably wear my WISH hat that day (I love that hat )

Mike - Hooray for the time on the bike without pain. :cool1: Having Dewars on hand post-exercise sounds like a great idea! :drinking1

Beth - I'll have to try Kashi Go Lean. I'm getting pretty sick of Cheerios and Special K. I'm still in awe of you passing up the ginormous boxof Lucky Charms.:worship: I would have caved.
