OK--the plan is to surprise DH with tickets to see Brewers/Braves play in Atlanta this summer (for his birthday). His birthday is at the end of the month. It would also be an overnight (Sat/Sun) trip with my parents watching the kids overnight. This would be our first adult trip since our oldest was born--6 years ago! I want it to be special!

Give me some ideas. I found a great rate for JW Marriott. I figured I would buy a new cap or a jersey he could wear to the game and the tickets and hotel info would be inside or on the back. What else? Things to do, places to check out?

He's also super into music--all kinds, including some off beat stuff. Loves, loves, loves Dylan. If I could find a concert or festival for Sat. night that would be awesome. Even a really good comedy show.

HELP!!!:scared1:

We've stayed at the Mariott twice before, really nice.

We haven't been out in a few years, but

For music we like the smaller places

and the bigger ones

Not too crazy about Chastain. They allow you to bring wine and candles and picnics and there is so much chatter you can hardly hear the music, but it has a romantic vibe.

For our first adult trip in 7 years, we recently went to Macon to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and to see Duane Allman's grave. Dh loved it and any time we can get in the car and get out of town without worrying about kids menus and video game chargers, I'm there. :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Have fun planning!

Also, just noticed the Vortex, famous for their burgers, was on the Travel Channel's Man VS Food, has a comedy club, The laughing Skull Lounge. I think they're around the corner from each other.

and there's the Punch Line http://www.punchline.com/

We love the burgers at the Vortex and they have a pretty good beer list too.
If you go the one in Little 5 points is the 'better' one IMO.
Dad's Garage is right around the corner if you're looking for a show.

We also love Six Feet Under http://www.sixfeetunderatlanta.com/
The rooftop bar at the Grant Park location looks out over Oakland Cemetery
(although I thought that one was closing) and the 11th St locations rooftop looks out over Atlanta.

I think the real question here is, if the game is a night or day game and wheather you're looking for night or day things to do.

There are lot's of daytime cultural things to do.
Atlanta History Center
Margaret Mitchell house
Carter Center
MLK Center
Centennial Olympic Park
Atlanta Botanical Gardens
Piedmont Park

For Hotels we like Hotel Indigo
Look around an let us know if you have question about specific things.

I love the Westin Peachtreee Plaza! We stayed there once for our anniversary. It's a 73 story high-rise downtown and you can get some pretty amazing city views.

The top houses the Sundial Restaurant. It's a great upscale place that actually revolves. Don't worry it's not a thrill ride but you get 360 degree city views during your meal.

For things to do during the day I’d suggest the aquarium (beware it is ALWAYS packed) or World of Coke.

Whole World Theatre is a fantastic improve comedy place. We go there all the time (but that might be because my brother is an actor there) http://wholeworldtheatre.com/wwit/

If youre brave consider the Stone Mountain Laser show. http://www.stonemountainpark.com/ It’s a real “cultural” experience LOL. Basically people bring picnics and blankets to the base of a giant piece of granite with confederate soldiers carved onto it and watch a laser / music show. If your hubby is into songs like “Dixie” or “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” I’m sure he’ll love it.

OP What month are you going to be here? Your original; post dosen't say.
There are always great festivals in the Summer and there is a local green market in Piedmont Park every Sat morning. The 420 fest is coming up April 17 we're going for the first time this year.
If you've signed up for Access Atlanta than you probably already know all of the events going on the weekend you'll be here.

Keep checking ticketmaster for concert listings. Otherwise, there's lots of stuff to do in ATL. Check out the Atlanta visitor information site too.

My husband and I just returned from a "his and her" getaway to Atlanta to see the Cubs/Braves on opening day. We stayed at the Country Inn and Suites 60 feet from the stadium. We were so excited because we could walk to the game and the hotel had a contenintal breakfast, fitness center, etc.

It was a RAT motel with a treadmill in a broom closet! The breakfast was horrible and the carpet was orange, smelly, and stained. It looked like a biohazzard in our room.

We made lemonade out of lemons and had a great time anyway. My advice to you is not to stay at the Country Inn and Suites. :thumbsup2

We spent Saturday and Sunday in Atlanta. Ate at the Cheescake Factory for lunch on Saturday--yum! I had the cookie dough cheesecake and was in heaven!

Our hotel was awesome--it has a walk through to Lenox Square Mall which is HUGE!!!!! I do not recommend room service--it was the only drawback to our stay. Overpriced and cold. But, saved us from going out after we used up all that energy exploring the mall!

Sunday our game got a late start due to thunderstorms, but was still a good time! (Even though the Brewers lost.)

On the way home we stopped in Augusta at the Augusta Exchange and ate at a place called SouperSalad. Good selection, tasted great and priced right. Yum!

Thanks again for all the suggestions earlier this year!
