Just read this on Disney Central Plaza.
Could be a date to avoid if you dislike busy parks and areas cordoned off for VIP's, Press, etc.
but if you can put up with that you could get lucky like we did at the 15th Anniversary Launch and be treated to a few surprise events and a fab. firework display. :thumbsup2

Does this mean we might get to see some of the new events/parades? We arrive Sunday lunchtime, leave the day before the new season officially starts. Would any events during this weekend be advertised closer to the date do you think.... or is it really a case of keeping your ear to the ground when you get there? Same with soft openings/practice runs.... are these ever put into the parades schedule?

We'll be there on this day....don't know if that's good or bad!

Going by our experience in 2007 they won't be listed in a schedule, the OUAD parade had been having practice runs before we saw it at the press event and similarly the Candelabration previewed the day before the event itself, although the one shown to the press was completely different to any shown after as it included Lumiere. There was a cart outside City Hall which was where I found out info on the evening's activities, but for those who didn't know, an announcement did come over the loudpeakers in the park to say "Disneyland Park is now closed but you are invited to stay and help celebrate the launch.........................." or something like that and we had the Special Candelabration, Daniel Powter on stage and the fireworks display.
We missed a lot of the day time events, but that was because my youngest wasn't very well and we went back to the hotel for him to have a nap, so I don't know if they announced when an event was taking place in Main Street, etc.
There will probably be certain areas cordoned off at specific times and the best viewing places will be reserved for VIP's and Press but I wouldn't have missed our weekend for the world. :)

im so confused now!
we ll be there from 26-29th march. thought we were gonna get a quiet park but not so sure now. i dnt mind catching the new events for mickeys magical party...actually im glad that we will! but still hoping that we'll manage to get around the other things we had planned on this trip:cool1:
getting even more excited!!!!!!!!

Anyone know any more about this?

28th is our last day at Disney, hope we are either going to still get a decent day, or not miss too much by not staying longer!

Oh, I was there in 2007, and loved it! OK, if you go once every so many years, you might no have liked it, because it was very busy, all the VIPs, yada yada, but we loved it.

Hmm, will think about it and go again this year. Hopefully, if they do fieworks again, I'll have my same wonderful spot!

Where was your wonderful spot Sandra?
I wonder when they announce timings of fireworks etc. We'll be booking either Inventions or California Grill that night but I'd hate to miss the fireworks if there were any, and with 4 of us we probably wouldn't get a window table.

Does anyone actually know what this means? Im going that weekend that weekend and if I'm honest I wanted it to be fairly quiet.

I think it means it won't be fairly quiet, certainly on the Saturday.

If it's the same as two years ago, it will be crazy busy.

As far as I remember, they didn't announce the fireworks beforehand. I know I emailed the shareholder's thing, and they told me it was ONLY for the press. During the morning, CMs told me it was ONLY for the press. In the end, they had everyone on main street to watch the fireworks.
Now, we arrived on Main Street very very late, like 5 minutes before it would start, and Main Street was as full as it could be, so they let us watch it in front of the Plaza restaurant, where those lava blocks come out of teh ground. We couldn't hear the fireworks music (discoveryland music instead), but most wonderful view of the fireworks!

I've found the programme from 31/03/07 I picked up outside City Hall and the new 15th activities:
Alphabet you Are
Character Express
OUAD parade
have times listed on there, however there is no mention of the other events that were held throughout the day, ie the opening ceremony in Main Street with Miley Cyress and Andi McDowell or the photoshoot with the Lion King float in Frontierland.
At the bottom it does however warn that Adventureland and Frontierland were closing early at 7.00pm that day, this was because the festivities continued after normal guests had to leave the park after the firework show.
It also says
Join us on Main Street from 8.40 pm for a party celebration followed by fireworks !
As I recall Fantasyland and Discoveryland closed around 8.00pm when total chaos ensued as CM's tried to get everyone previously in the park into Main Street.

So call into City Hall and you should get the info. there, although I do wonder if it will be as big an event as the 15th launch was. :confused3

Just had a look on the official calendar and the park is closing early on Saturday 28th @ 8.00pm, all previous Saturdays it stays open until 10.00pm.

we arrive on the 29th...anyone know if the new shows are likely to be on during the week between the press launch and official launch date? would be fab if the playhouse disney show was on...although i suspect if it is i'll find it difficult to get my dd to see anything else :)
