Week of November 2nd WISH Walking & Running Club

Allyson - Cross training? :confused3 Could someone remind me what that is? :rotfl: I can barely get the midweek runs in, let alone cross training. I was doing so good before all the injuries hit, and now I just can't get it all going again.

Tricia - One of the women in my Galloway group is 82 and still regularly runs marathons. She's the inspiration for every runner in the city! Good luck on your half this weekend!

Stacie - If your old shoes are ready to be replaced, they could be the culprit. When mine are ready to be retired my feet really know it.

Kaycie - I agree - it's nice to come to a sane, neutral place! :) I finally got my motivation back after I told several people that I'd quit running and didn't like the sound of that, and then DH helped by inviting me to join him one night for a run/walk. Once he got me back out there, that was all I needed.

Carrie - A good run AND yoga - you go, girl! :cool1:

Ang - Great job combining the run with voting. I'd planned to do that, but then we voted early over the weekend, and we woke up to cold yucky rain today. Would not have been fun.

Knew I needed to get some miles in after my half marathon on Sunday, but I turned off the alarm this morning when it woke me to get on the TM. While watching election returns tonight I realized I had no better way to spend the time, so I hopped on the TM and pounded out 3 miles. Figured I'm gonna be up for a while anyway!

Jackie

Congrats to all my US friends on your new president!!!!

Carrie wow that was some workout...are you finding the yoga is helping???

ANg: WTG on your walk/jog/run and for voting:thumbsup2

Jackie: WTG on the 3 miles!!!!

Was dealing with a bit of a tummy ache yesterday so no walk for me, but so far feeling better today so will be out there tonight!!!

Thanks everyone on the well wishes for the 1/2 on Sunday - I am still nervous - I know I can get the distance in its just I feel nervous/anxious at the start sorta like I don't really want to be there. When I finish I will be happy that I did it but its that start that I have to get over.

As for me I am proud to report that I did 3 miles this morning pretty much without walking except when I did my turn around I walked for a brief (and I mean really brief) period. Still ended up in the same amount of time if I would have ran/walked because I slowed my running pace down - but at least it was manageable. I am sure in time it will come. I just hope that time is before the full in January!! YIKES

Hope everyone has a WONDERFUL Wednesday

I went running last night in the dark. I did 3 miles continuous, I tried to go for a 10 m/m pace but ended up closer to 10:30. So I'm happy with that. Back out tonight for some more running. My training plan calls for 5X400 at a 5K pace so I'll definitely push for 10 m/m or faster. I'll try and run them at a high school track but I think I might end up doing part of it in the dark so I'll have to bring DF :)

Tricia - Congrats on running the 3 miles continuous! I have noticed that my run/walk time is maybe 1-2 minutes slower than my continuous. Good luck with your half this weekend!!

Ang - Not sure about the situation with the cars. My thinking is that some drivers already have a hard time negotiating a 4-way stop without pedestrians. My DF and I went for a run and voted during the Canadian election last month :)

Kim - WTG on the 10K!! Hope your stomach ache is gone today.

Carrie - How are you finding the yoga? The gym I go to has a private instructor but she'll let you bring a couple of friends so it's easier to split the cost. Now I just have to convince some of my friends to go!

Tracy - Totally agree with your advice! There's no point in running if something's hurting. You might get an extra 20 minutes of running in but you could also end up taking yourself out for much longer.

Ok, that's it for me! Make it a great day everyone!

I went out last night and did my 4 miler I had scheduled and today feel really tired. I can't figure out how I feel great after a 15 miler and then after 4 I feel bad. It could be staying up to watch Obama I guess, but I don't know.

I may skip my 6 miler today.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Tricia, Vicky and Chris WTG on getting out there last night!!!!!!

Tummy ache is gone today so will get out for a walk tonight. Program calls for 40 mins so just a quick one out there tonight.

Has anyone successfully submitted proof of time for the WDW half marathon yet? I sent mine in last week as soon as the newsletter came out and again on Monday, but the verification tool is still showing "proof needed".

Maura

Maura, not me, I'm too slow for proof of time corrals. If you don't get any response, make sure you take your info with you to the registration. They will hook you up then. I know I'd feel better having that all settled before though.

I admire all you "dark side" runners. :worship: I have trouble getting out in daylight with uneven sidewalks, the trail I go on is not a good idea for night trekking, so it would be TM. However, I'm happy to say I really have no excuse since daylight opportunity is usually not going to be an issue for me these days. Only thing is ice/snow/slippery that I will be on TM for these days.

Today was a perfect day and I spent a great deal of time out in it. Perfect!

Hi folks. It's my once-every-couple-of-months-poke-my-head-in-and-say-hi post. In reading this week's posts from you, I realize I'm not really good at sticking to a schedule like a lot of you folks are, but I'm fortunate that I usually really enjoy slipping into my headphones and zoning out with my morning treadmill walk (whatever distance it turns out to be).

This week I did some cross-training, though -- outdoors on my bike at Biltmore Estate. My DDs had a day out of school and we packed up the bikes to enjoy what Biltmore refers to as their "outdoor adventures" -- a chance to explore some of the 8000 acres surrounding the property on foot, bike, horseback, raft, or even by Segway. Had money been no object, we probably would have picked horse or Segway, but since we have our own bikes, that was a much more economical choice.

The weather was perfect, the scenery was beautiful, and since it was a weekday and there were few visitors, we had our own private tour with a great guide who told us lots of neat facts about the estate. We rode some paved and unpaved trails, took some gorgeous photos, and just enjoyed an awesome day together. It was a “mini-weekend” – and we loved it.

This is one of my favorite photos – because you can see Biltmore House in the background - of me and our guide, Molly. We rode a winding trail to the house and the climb was… er… challenging, but we absolutely rocketed down. Going that fast was laugh-out-loud fun, even for a weenie like me.

OK, signing off for now... Keep on truckin'!

WENDY!!!! - NICE photo and great story about your adventures!!!

Have a good training day everyone!!

Tracy

P.S. Kaycie - Did you get out there and do some miles??

Great job everyone for getting out there and getting the miles in. I am getting out in the morning (loving the light early in the AM but hating the dark when I am getting home thing!!) I was able to do 2 miles today continuous running (in 20 minutes!!) I really should be getting more in but the 2 I did get in felt good. I might end up getting some more miles in later on the TM but not sure if I will feel like it.

Wendy - thanks for sharing your bike trail ride to the Biltmore - that picture is great - I love NC this time of the year its so beautiful

Wendy - Beautiful pic! What a fun place to ride!

Yoga Questions - Yes yoga does wonders for me. A little over a year ago, I thought it was for people much differnt than I. It's teh best thing I've ever done. I have one leg longer than the other and have been told I will forever be fighting hammy issues, as lifts can only fix about half the gap. It's done wonders. Not only do I feel it work, I feel when I'm not doing it. I didn't do it over the summer due to a time adn locaiton change. Had been meaning to start agian when my new fitness center opened. Then life happened, thought I'd do it on my own.... Nope, I need teh structure of aclass adn about 2 weeks ago, my hammy reminded me how much I needed it. So, it's good to be back. Sad to see how much I lost in abotu 4 months.

Oh, even if I didn't need it for my hammy, you mind and body thank you when done. It's done mental good for me too.

I had another decent run lsat night. 40 min. Don't much care for teh dark, though.

Thanks, Tracy, and Tricia, and Carrie.

So, Kaycie, did you do the miles?

Have fun out there, y'all.

Just a SHOUT OUT to MIghtyduck-Duckie and Deekaypee (debra!) !!

Hey I thought you two might be back posting since its almost Marathon weekend!!

Also, hoping that Amybeth and Scott are out there some where.:confused3

DId some more walking in the dark tonight for a scheduled 4 miles in my Half Marathong Training. I'm sitting down with a nice bowl of cookie and cream icecream, sprinkles and Chocolate Shell topping!! YUMMMMMMM

Tracy

Wendy, great picture. Looks like a wonderful fun outdoor event that I would enjoy.

It was another great day! I enjoyed walking for coffee (walked to Starbucks) took my book and read for a bit then came home to take Kirby dog for his turn. Perfect day.

Hey everyone, hope all is going well with you all and getting those miles in.

I'm back from a one week lay off due to a issue with my calf. I ran 6 3/4 miles, slower pace than normal. Still a bit stiff in the achillies area. No burning pain, so that's good.

I gotta roll this bugger out, and get back into the swing of things. Only 5 weeks to the Honolulu Marathon.

Happy Aloha Friday!

Hey gang......

Great photos Wendy thank you for sharing!!!

Can you believe it is just 9 weeks till marathon weekend!!!!:scared1:

Great Photo's Wendy.

Jeff good to see you back at it. I was hoping you didn't tear anything! :thumbsup2

As for me I have a scheduled back to back today and tomorrow, but at far less miles. 7 and 11 so we'll see how that goes. Rain is coming so I'll likely do today on the treadmill.

Happy Friday everyone! :cool1:

Hi everyone! Just wanted to drop by quickly today... I ran 3 miles last night. Went a bit slower than usual because I had stomach cramps but felt really great afterwards. I got stopped in the middle of my run by a cute little Schnauzer who started running beside me. I stopped so his owner could catch up. It made me wish I had a dog to go running with :)

Today's my rest day but I'll be back out tomorrow. The forecast calls for rain this weekend so I'll probably try and go for my LR tomorrow as long as it's not raining so I can get it out of the way.

Wendy - Great photo! Thanks for sharing!

Kim - 9 weeks ... I guess that means November is just going to fly by!

Lily - Sounds like a very relaxing day!

Carrie - I know what you mean about going to classes. I'm not very good at doing exercises or doing gym workouts by myself. I like having an instructor or trainer who'll push me.

Jeff - Glad to see the injury wasn't too serious and that you're running again! Yay!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Chris & Vicky,

It probably is a micro-tear of the calf muscle, or a strained tendon. I can't figure it out for sure.

It was sore and a bit stiff after my run last night. Since I had a week off or rest and ice, last night I put a little heat on it, then massaged it.

This morning I repeated the heat & massage. Not 100%, but hopefully I can recover for the Honolulu Marathon on 12/14. It's just a training run for Goofy.

Maybe I'll do some cycling tonight or Saturday, and see how that feels.
