Week 4: Your Assignment, Should You Choose To Accept It

Getting my very active 7 year old on film as anything other than a blur is always a challenge:

taekwondo belt testing.

Getting the maracas during the school music program is a big responsibility, they must be played with gusto.

Something I've played with a bit with shots from various baseball games. Here my beloved Hokies got beat down by UNC but I had some fun with burst mode and Photoshop.

Great photos! Your son is a hoot. My older one always gave it his all in the bell choir. I really love the baseball one. Very creative.

Can you stand another bicycle photo?
I practiced panning with my son this afternoon. Of the 50 shots I took, this was the best one. Too bad I didn't get the whole bike in the shot. Panning is not easy and I can see that I'm going to have to practice regularly to become any better.

I think you did a great job panning on this one. Your son and the bike are clearly in focus and the background is nicely blurred. You get a real sense of motion and I don't think it matters that the back end of the bike is cut off a little. In fact it gives a bit of leading edege on the other side helping to set up the sense of motion and direction. Nice work

Pardon, me I am a novice at posting - tonight, I will need to resize the photos. For now, I left links.

Track meet photos. I chose a few that showed some motion and expression. Most of the time, I try to shoot with a f/2.8 aperture and a fast shutter speed. Below each image, I tried put some data about the photo.



At night in a rain storm - I had to use a flash - don't know much about taking "flash action photos.

Awesome action photos everyone. I love the bike shots.

I went to NYC on saturday, thinking of all the action I would see there, but with a 6 year old, it wasn't very easy to keep track of him, and take pictures. This was the best I got while he ate a snowcone on a bench, and then a few of him at the hotel pool.

My husband got some motion shots at DDs soccer practice this past weekend. He was using our nice Canon S3 (did I mention I love that thing?!) and ended up getting a ton of great shots. I didn't want to go posting everyone else's kids though so here's some of my DD. The best pictures weren't even of DD though.

I took my little pocket sized Fuji FinePix (the I may want pictures but don't care about the quality camera ) to a local amusement park on Sunday and managed to get some semi-decent motion shots. This is one of my favorites.

I liked this one because I caught the ball which the batter tipped and it dropped right in front of him.
