Cast Of Characters
DH - Rick (49) - Driver and chief worrier
DW - Julia (42) - Co-Pilot and wanderer (where is your mum?)
DS - Matt (15) - Chief Babe Spotter
DD - Nicole (13) - Disney "wannabee Animator"
This is our 12th visit as a family and first time to Cypress Pointe.
We have surprised the kids twice before but this time is definitely the biggest yet (Suprised will be revealed on Trip Report for Aug/19th).
Day 13 - Aug/22
Today is Castaway Cay day.
Up at 6-15am ,washed and dressed in time for 6-45am sunrise on our verandah. We wake up the kids at 7am and head up to the Buffet where we watch the ship docking and see for the first time the Flying Dutchman ship (used in the latest movie).
After breakfast we take the elevator down to Deck 1 to disembark on Castaway Cay. As we get off the elevator we meet Don "Ducky" Williams and his partner George. George (a fellow Glaswegian) explained that the elevators are not supposed to go to Deck 1 (supposed to go to Deck 2 and walk down stairs). Consequently every one was behind the rope except us !
We all got chatting and it turns out that Ducky is a Senior Illustrator for Disney and has worked for them for many years. He has done several Disney book illustrations of all of the well known characters and he was working on the ship doing seminars with passengers. George explained that they both do the Disney cruise 8 times per year. After a pleasant chat the crew opened the doors and we are one of the first groups off the ship.
Its a 12 min walk to the family beach. A tram is available but we walked. It was a beautiful day. The beach was gorgeous and empty when we arrived.
We found a hammock and 4 chairs and an umbrella right at the edge of the water.Could'nt have picked a better spot.DH went and rented an inflated tube for $6. Everyone went for a swim and the water was clear and warm (DS and DD saw fishes swimming around their feet). After 45 mins the beach began to fill up with most going to the Family Beach but some going to the Adult and Teen Beaches. The kids were excited to hear that DH had booked a Parasailing trip for all 3 . We met the 2 local Bahamian guys on the dock and we (along with 5 others from Boston)boarded the boat. They take us out beyond the Wonder and start setting up each of the participants. Unlike the old days (where you run along the beach) they now just have you sit on the back of the boat and they gently winch you out as the parachute takes flight. DW was video taping from the shore. We all had a great time and enjoyed the comical chit chat of the guys running the boat (dunked us in the water for a sec and yelled shark!!.....much to our amusement).
DW was lying in the hammock doing the trip report and guarding our spot. What a tough life she has !!
Once DH returned with the kids we got a frozen Pina Colada and Frozen Stawberry Margarita along with virgin drinks for the kids...$17 (served by one of the roaming waiters walking around the beach). Isn't it fantastic...you don't have to move a muscle! Two more swims and then we head back to the boat.
Before going back on board we take a few more photos and....wash our hands with the sanitizer.
We didn't go to Cookies Barbeque on Castaway Cay for lunch because the beach was becoming quite busy.So once on board we went back to the cabin to get the sand out of many unspeakable places and then up to Deck 9 for lunch of burgers and fries and fresh fruit and ice cream from Scoops. The ship was nice and quiet because most were still on Castaway cay. After lunch DW and DH and DD go back to the cabin for a rest while DS goes to the Teen Club and more swimming in the pool.Dinner was light faire as nobody could be bothered getting dressed up for Tritons. Because tonight is Pirates Night we wanted to go to the early performance of The Golden Mickeys. The show was great and afterwards we spent some time on our verandah before heading up to Deck 10 for Pirate Night.
Pirate Night was fabulous with loud exciting music and lights and is topped off with Mickey sliding down a wire from one of the funnels on to the stage to save us from the pirates. The fireworks show (the only show of its kind allowed in the world) was very nice against the dark skies. After the show we headed down to Deck 9 for the Pirate Buffet which was a feast for all. (for us a selection of delicious cakes but you could have got many other types of food). back to the room where we find another towel animal (we actually got one every night).
We then headed off to bunk where we all fell asleep quickly (I should say that DD and DH have sensitive stomachs but at no time did they ever encounter any problems with seasickness. In fact youd never even know you were moving ,sometimes!)
