Cast Of Characters
DH - Rick (49) - Driver and chief worrier
DW - Julia (42) - Co-Pilot and wanderer (where is your mum?)
DS - Matt (15) - Chief Babe Spotter
DD - Nicole (13) - Disney "wannabee Animator"

This is our 12th visit as a family and first time to Cypress Pointe.
We have surprised the kids twice before but this time is definitely the biggest yet (Suprised will be revealed on Trip Report for Aug/19th).

Day 11 - Aug/20
We are up at 7am and after cleaning up all of our stuff we head off from our most enjoyable stay at Cypress Pointe. As we check out ,the kids say goodbye to Charlie the parrot in the lobby. Off to IHOP for our breakfast. After another delicious breakfast we are on the road at 8-30am (believe it or not there was a family sitting next to us in IHOP and we saw them again on the Wonder on the same cruise!
Nice quiet drive along 528 east.55 mins later we are arrive in Cape Canaveral. As we cross the bridge we see the Wonder in the distance sitting majestically in the port.We find the Radisson By The Port without any problem where we are booked for a Cruise/Park/Stay package.DH amd DS go in to find out where to park the car for the next 5 days. Shannon at the desk doesn't look up from his computer as I ask the questions and is about as much use as a chocolate teapot ! DD and DW are out front waiting with the luggage for the shuttle bus over to the port. The bus pulls up almost immediatley and our luggage is loaded in. Unfortunately Useless Shannon has given DH the wrong directions to the "special" cruise parking area (DH had to stop and ask a cleaner for info).DW is very frustrated because she thinks "how long does it take to park a car?"...but the shuttle driver is excellent and he says there is no problem to wait.

Finally DH and DS arrive and we are on the bus for the 5 minute ride to the port. Straight through Security and up to registration (time is now about 10am). Disney has the registration set up so well and there are no line ups or problems. We receive our Keys To THe World cards and are sitting admiring the ship just after 10am. Our boarding card is group #2. DH buys a lanyard to hold all of our cards while swimming and we then wander round the terminal. It is now getting much busier as we have heard it will be a full ship (no upgrades available). At 11-30am Boarding groups 1 & 2 are called to board.
We excitedly run toward the Mickey ears.

This is our first sighting of the Hand Sanitizer Station which will get to know very well. Everyone is happy and smiling and family photos are being taken by Disney before boarding the ship. As we walk up the gangway,a CM ask for our family name and she announces through the PA "Disney Wonder Welcomes The Patton Family" and all the cast memebers clap (makes you feel quite important!). DS was a little annoyed when cast member Ian (from England) screamed into his video camera lens. (We will come to find that Ian is a hyper ,live wire who can't sit still for 2 mins !). After we are greeted we head up to Beach Blanket Buffet on Deck 9 for buffet lunch. It is fantastic !
After hand sanitizing again wander round the decks of the ship (the rooms are not ready until 1-30pm). DS goes for swim in the empty Goofy Pool while DD just dips her feet while DW and DH enjoy a Bahama Mama.

It can't get any better than this...can it?
1-30pm comes quickly and we head down to Cabin #6042 where our luggage is waiting outside our door. The cabin is beautiful and we go to the verandah for 1/2 hr.

After unpacking everything we go out to explore the ship some more. We then go back to the cabin to pick up our life vests and then head to Deck#4 for the drill.Once again there are announcements made and there are many CM's to answer questions and help you.It is very straight forward although it is a bit chaotic because of the large congregation of bodies on Deck 4.
Picture097.jpg

After 15 mins all is done and we take our vests back to the cabin.
Its now up to Deck 10 for the sail away party. The atmosphere is great and we see Ian jumping and clapping and full of enthusiasim. The music is good and puts everyone in good spirits and the kids are dancing with the multitude of characters everywhere. We then have countdown from 10 down to 1 where we then hear the Wonder horn which is to the tune of "When You Wish UPon A Star" and we push out to sea.
At 5-15pm we head to the cabin to get ready for Dinner. Our first night is at Parrot Cay.DW appears from the washroom dressed in heels and a dress (a very rare sight indeed!).Everyone looks nice in our "smart but casual" attire.
Dinner is slow but the service very pleasant at our table for 4.
Our servers are Tomas from the Czech Republic and Tayfor form Turkey. Both are excellent.
Picture137.jpg

Still full from the buffet lunch ,we only manage a starter and a main (no desert tonight). Back to the cabin immediately after dinner so that DW can take of her heels. Everyone changes back into shorts and then we all head off for more exploring. The kids stop off at the Teen Club on Deck 10 and we end up going to the Buena Vista Theatre to see the movie Cars. After the movie we go back to the cabin and DS goes out for a walk around the ship.

What a great start to the cruise, it's nice to see that I'm not the only Bahama Mama fan on these boards ~ LOL

Great piccies, those life vests are rather fetching aren't they :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm off to read some more

Mandy :)

How exciting! I got goosebumps watching the video - what a fantastic surprise for your kids (and you kept it a secret for 14 months - oh my gosh! :thumbsup2 ).

Did your kids willingly agree to wear their tee shirts or did you have to make them? My daughter (DD12) is reading along with me and says 'no way' I wouldn't wear that. lol

Isn't life boat drill fun? Not!

Fantastic, Just fantastic, brought back loads of memories :thumbsup2

The kids loved the shirts and many of the Disney crew commented on how great they were when we boarded.
The drill isn't great but does not last long.

Fantastic ~ Looking forward to our first cruise next year.

what a great first day - off to read more

loving the pictures

Great start to the cruise report. Have to head back and do some work now, but will catch up with video and rest of report later :)
