Hi all,

Just engaged and now the planning! We want to get married in Orlando. Disney would have been our dream but we can't afford it :-(

We were wondering if anyone knows if you can have a small wedding at the clubhouse in the vacation home areas....Emerald Island, Windsor Hills, etc. We thought we could all rent homes, have the wedding, visit Disney and then finally honeymoon on site for a few nights. Has anyone heard of this before? I think it would be a beautiful place to get married....thoughts?

Jen

I have only been to Windsor Palms, but I don't think it would be that great. It's right off the pool, which is busy with kids most of the day.

It seems like a creative idea. Maybe if you post on the Orlando boards people might have more info on other resorts.

Having everyone in the same neighborhood sounds fun and will certainly keep costs down!

I considered it at the Manors at Westridge. I looked round the room and found out about catering e.t.c It was looking like a brilliant informal way to celebrate, I would have definatly booked it for after our meal but we changed to a wishes wedding and needed to spend all our original budget on meeting the $10k min. My advise would be, if you can check out the club house definatly do it!!! Ask, ask, ask! Dont be worried about sorting out the smallest of details. HTH

Thanks for your replies Gillian and babystar! I will check out the Orlando boards for more ideas. Looks like I have tons of planning and web surfing ahead of me!!! I hope your wedding is everything you have dreamed of, babystar!:goodvibes

Actually - we considered one of the Disney Vacation Club Homes but my daughter didn't want to do it. There are such places as "Grand Villas" with 3 br's, a fold out couch, living room, dining room, numerous bathrooms. When I inquired, the lady in member services said they loved doing things like this and probably would help. If you're not a member, I think you can go on the rent/trade board. As it is, we are having the cake and champagne in a 2 bedroom villa at Old Key West.

We had our wedding in a 2 bdrm Villa at Old Key West in Feb! It was fabulous. We brought our own cake and buffet trays from Publix. It was very casual and fun for about 25 family and friends.

Thanks for your replies! We were also thinking about getting some trays and a cake from Publix. They looked good and it would make the long-distance planning a lot easier! Would you recommend them Chedstro?

Oh and I forgot to mention the deli trays! We had, I think 5. Fruit, meats and cheeses, Scrumptious Salads, finger sandwiches with fillings, and potato rolls for those who wanted to make sandwiches.

They accidentally made and extra tray of the salads and when our friends picked them up they said, "Oh our problem, enjoy!" No extra cost :thumbsup2

OK apparently my first response about the cake got lost in cyberspace. Trying again.

Go to www.publix.com then to "Special Occasion Cakes" and look around. Ours was the Grooms Cake called "Macho Mocha" (go figure)

I may have mentioned that we modified it because it seemed like an awful lot of chocolate. Had a yellow cake and a fresh strawberry filling. Wow it was so good!

I was jealous of my own cake. Our guests talked more about the cake than me!:rotfl2:

We loved it so much (moist and flavorful) that we are planning on ordering two "minicakes" of it for our first anniversary.

BTW: I found out (too late) that www.Wegoshop.com delivers cakes from Publix to the resorts -sigh

Best of luck to you and pixie dust pixiedust:

Wow this is the best information! I just sent out an e-mail to them and I am crossing my fingers that this works!

Thank you so much for this information!!! We just picked out our cake!!! Checking out the event planning and trays now!

YAY:cool1: So happy to have been able to help - you made my night!:worship:

Oh and please let me know what you picked - way too curious here, lol

We are having a beach themed wedding and were stressing about finding a cake when we live almost 3000 miles away. So I check out your Publix link and there it is "Our Slice of Paradise" - PERFECT!! I would die for one of the groom's cakes too - love chocolate - but DF(iance) reminded me about our theme! hmmm....maybe we can have a chocolate layer... So excited here! Thanks and Cheers to you!! :cheer2:
