Wedding problems - need advice

Well - hopefully we're getting married in october 2006, but i don't know where and could really use some advice please.

First some background info - both myself and husband to be are divorced - he had three children ages 8, 11 and 13 and i have two ages 8 and 11. My first wedding was a large church wedding and i hated it. His was a small wedding as she was pregnant and it was all they could afford. So this time round, I want something smaller but he wants something grander.

I really wanted to do disney wedding or a carribean wedding but he said no way. We had a dvc swap for Hawaii arranged for the honeymoon, but he has since visited wdw for the first time and really likes it so we are changing it to 1 week caribbean and 1 week wdw.

The problem is we can't decide to get married - he doesn't want to do it abroad and we did agree to just have immediate family - ie parents, brothers and sisters and kids. But all the places we have looked at require us to take over the place - eg book the rooms and i don't think it would be much of a wedding night having five kids with us. To be honest, i really don't think that weddings are a great place for kids at all, and they would be bored.

Then there is another really big problem - his ex wife's sister is married to one of his brothers and clearly doesn't like me or him. He says we can't just not invite her, and i get the feeling she would turn up if invited just to be nosy. But, i really don't want anyone at our wedding that doesn't like us, and feel like the whole thing would be better if we had our own wedding - just the two of us at wdw or in the caribbean. But, on the other hand - i want to please him too, as i know he wants to have a nicer wedding than he had last time.

Any advice or opinions would be grately appreciated. thanks

it's not a very nice situation you are in but i do understand about you not wanting a big wedding and your fiance wanting a big one,
we are having an intimate wedding in wdw just us 2 and our 2 boys (who will be 15 and 11)in 2007 and to be honest having a wedding in wdw will be a nicer wedding it i have looked at other members wedding pics and they look so lovely and romantic and at the end of the day what really matters is you and your partners happiness this is just my opinion of course

Would he consider doing something special with just your parents and your kids? It isn't necessarily a larger wedding, but a special one?

Then once you return home from the honeymoon you can throw a reception party for everyone? That way you get a wedding that nobody crashes (or hurts the mood of) but everyone still gets to celebrate and have a big party? So it is smaller (for the ceremony part) but bigger too?
