Does anyone hand out matches anymore?

I was just cleaning out a drawer and came across a ziplock bag full of matchbooks. When I looked at them, I realized most of them were from friends weddings.
We have not been to a wedding in years, so i was wondering if couples still gave them out.

We were married 15 years ago and didn't give them. We had a non-smoking wedding when it wasn't the norm. Everyone went outside if they wanted to smoke.

The only wedding we've been to recently that gave matches was a wedding where the B&G both smoked. It was at a CC that didn't allow smoking indoors, so everyone went out anyway, but they gave matches.

That's the only one in probably 10 years.

We have received lovely salad tongs, a letter opener and other items of the like as favors, though.

Just got back from my niece's wedding and they gave out Koozies with the bride & groom's name on them. Really cute.

We made these...

In an organza bag, we placed two of each of these... a Hershey'ss Kiss, a Hershey's Hug and a Dove Promise.

On the computer, we printed paper "ribbons" that said this...

"True Love Begins With a Hug, a Kiss, and a Promise - AKL_Megs and AKL_Rob 6.26.09"

(Another idea we chose NOT to do was the same thing, only with JUST the Hugs and Kisses... saying instead, "Hugs and Kisses from the Mr. and Mrs.")

People actually USED them, because at the end of the night, the tables were covered with empty organza bags and chocolate wrappers! :rotfl:

(And for what it is worth, the last TWO weddings I went to, I would say about 80% of the people left behind their favor. One was the match book, and another was a cake shaped candle.)

I haven't seen matches in years.

Recently I've been seeing chocolates a lot. I've seen the little box of Godivas with 4 chocolates in it. The most recent wedding I went to had blue & white M&Ms in a wine glass and the wine glass was etched with the bride & groom's name & wedding date. Blue was the wedding "theme color". That was nice, and at least relatively useful...you could eat the chooclate and use the wine glass.

My niece is getting married December 27th and she is having a snowflake ornament as a favor which will also double as the placecard.

My DMIL and I made chocolate castles [some milk ,some white] and put then in plastic bags with ribbons and custom made name tags with our names/wedding Date.

At the end of the night we had empty wrappers on a couple of tables and I also have friends who tell me theirs is still in their fridge/freezer because it's "too pretty to eat"

I've made these exact one for several birthday parties. Always a big hit!
