Wedding Crasher: Lurkyloo’s 4 Parties in 3 Nights with 2 Cameras and 1 Fabulous Hat

When we got to Downtown Disney, our first stop was the Characters in Flight balloon over on Downtown Disney’s Westside. This was the first time in six trips that I’d ever been to the Westside, cuz there’s never been anything over there that interested me.

I was very excited to ride Characters in Flight because, although it had been open a few weeks, no one had ever reported being able to ride it — it’s constantly shut down due to wind. I don’t know why I thought our experience would be any different....

377.jpg

Even as we approached, I got a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach – I couldn’t see a line...

And then:

I find it very telling that they have a classy, permanent-looking sign to tell you the ride is closed. But what on earth does closed “due to weather” mean? I mean weather is a constant.... there’s never not weather... Maybe they just didn’t know how to spell “inclement.”

The other thing that bugs is, there’s no way to find out if this thing is open before you go all the way down there. Supposedly you can call a hotline, but intrepid Disney investigative reporter Kevin Yee found that the person who answers the Guest Relations number they give you will tell you it’s open even when it isn’t because all they know is the schedule.

The Roots and I were so nonplussed by this stunning setback to my carefully laid plans that all we could do was wander aimlessly around in front of Characters in Flight and (if we were Nathan) take pictures.

Jensey’s favorite movie star! (No, it’s not Elvis...)

What does one even DO here...?
384.jpg

I’m getting bored all over again just looking at it!

386.jpg

387.jpg

388.jpg

Uh... I don’t think anybody’s gonna be celebrating Tonight at Pleasure Island, seeing as how everything on it is closed!...Poor Tonight... it just doesn’t get the props that Today does...
389.jpg

We were snapped out of our disappointment-induced haze by the sight of a snack cart.

Cookies make me feel better even when I don’t eat them!
390.jpg

Better still, I was reunited with my neon blue lemon slushie!!!!

This slushie totally coulda been in our wedding
391.jpg

No, Planet Hollywood. Just... no. Have you even heard about T-Rex?
392.jpg

393.jpg

We decided to drive over to the Marketplace because it was frigging hot. I dragged the Roots to Tren-D to immortalize it for me on film before it went out of fashion.

419.jpg

I’m having trouble selecting pictures to post, so I’m just gonna throw ‘em all up there:

One thing I like about Tren-D is the superabundance of color!

This painting of Minnie freaks me out – I mean, what is going on with her arms there?

Yikes! There’s another one!
401.jpg

No wonder Mickey’s disappearing into the wall!

406.jpg

407.jpg

OK, Creepy Minnie, you just stay right there while I slowly back away...
408.jpg

The funny thing about Tren-D is that the Cast Members are all waaaaay out of the target demographic!

I think my mind was just blown.

I could tell Nathan was getting bored, so I suggested we leave.

Our next stop was the Once Upon A Toy shop.

424.jpg

When I was there the previous night, I emailed DH a pic of their selection of Cars toys and he actually saw one he didn’t have!

Finally, I rewarded Nathan & Jensey for so graciously following me around on my halfhearted sightseeing trip by letting them buy themselves some pretzel rods at Goofy’s Candy Co.

432.jpg

I sneaked this shot when they were distracted by candy. See... I can be a photojournalist too!

The ginormous Oreo I bought will make its trip report debut later....

OK, I’m gonna stop here so I can at least get something posted today. Tonight I’m going out to see the Abbot & Costello comedy “Buck Privates” at one of the LA Conservancy’s Last Remaining Seats revival shows in the glamorous movie palaces downtown. And yes, this is an ad for historic preservation in LA!

Up Next: DHS... again! I must’ve been clinically insane!

I love the paintings in that window. They are so totally what I paint like. Well sorta.

I only went to the West Side to go to Virgin, since there's no virgin here.

But I guess I won't go anymore.

Clearly, you didn't see the Hagan Dazs shop over there...that makes it worth DOING!!

384.jpg

and the picture of the cashier..the EXACT thing I am talking about...the picture of a cashier is stunning...can you ask what kinda filter they use and can they adopt me for a day just so I can learn how to take a picture?? SLR's FOR DUMMIES just isn't dumbed down enough for me..

lurkyloo this is so off topic but I have to let you know remember my DS said you look like Kate Winslet in your wedding pics. Well if you and everyone else would please google Judy Greer your true twin has been found:goodvibes. I tried to put her pic on here but I am not good at that:confused3. She played in the movie maneater the other night on Lifetime she was one of the friends. Let me know after you see her. Great update still gagging over hair in food:sick:.

:goodvibes You know, I was up til 1:30am trying to post the dang thing cuz the DIS was freaking out and giving me database error. Patrick was like, "Why are you up so late?" and I was all, "Because I have to get the report up for MEK to read before she goes to work!!!"

OK..... it is a good thing I am not eating or drinking anything right now or I would be spitting it all over the keyboard from laughing so hard! Thank you for making me laugh, cause I had a bad evening (too complicated to explain, but has to do with my soccer mom duties).

Anyhoo.....I am super psyched to see a new update already. So now I am off to read.

Such great color in all the pics!! Although I do think that Goofy's Candy Company was more colorful than the toy store or TrenD!!! And I bet it smelled better, too!

OMG the Judy Greer thing is totally true! Especially those pictures of her and the dog... reminds me of Carrie and Huck, haha!

Okay, all caught up. Once again, I was :lmao: You have the best photo captions.

I loved the comment about the matching shirts! :rotfl2:
I can't believe the hair in the food!

I just reported about visiting Celebration in my TR. I had such a different view of it - probably because I don't know anyone there. It felt so positively perfect in every way that I was creeped out. JordanYosh said the same thing - we thought of Stepford Wives! It's nice to know some real people live there! Maybe I'll give it another chance some day:thumbsup2

I love that the postman knows everyone's business - just like the old cowboy days!:rotfl2:

I'm so mad now. I was looking at that balloon in DTD from our balcony the whole week, and thought it was just a decoration - I so would have taken a ride! Of course maybe there would have been weather.:rotfl: I'm sorry your TR is almost over. I hope you go on another trip soon!popcorn::

I'm surprised Disney heads didn't think about building an indoor balloon ride at DTD. Think about all of those $16's they're missing out on due to "weather" ;).

Fanta-bulous UPDATE! OMG, the pics are so amazing. I really must drag the Roots around with me sometime. We would have SUCH a good time. Seriously tho, slow down! You posted a MEGA-big update with oodles of pics - which was lovely! But, slooooow down - so we can enjoy this!

Especially as I haven't been to a Disney park AT ALL (so far) this year!

No need to resort to violence - here's the recipe for ya! :goodvibes

Chocolate Peanut Butter Marshmallow Squares Recipe

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup peanut butter
12 oz chocolate chips
3 cups miniature marshmallows
Peanut butter chips for topping (you might wanna stir some in with the marshmallows too)

Mix butter, peanut butter, and chocolate chips in a double boiler just till melted, then remove from heat. Place 3 cups miniature marshmallows in a buttered pan and spread on warm mixture. Save a few chips and marshmallows to decorate the top, or be generous and add extra.

Cut in squares when cool. It's that easy...

Ooooo! I'm making these later on! Yummmmmm! We don't get peanut butter chips in the UK though... :sad2: I can't wait to try them, thanks Carrie! You're an absolute star!

BTW- That TrenD shop looks amazing!!!!!

Bob xoxoxox

SO I made a impromptu trip to Disney yesterday while I was in FL. I got 2 giant oreos at Goofy's. I can't wait to taste them. I just might have one for breakfast.

My list of things to do at DTD is growing longer! I'm going to spend so much time trying to figure out what to eat at Goofy's Candy Co, that i'm going to run out of time to shop at Tren-D!

I really liked Tren-D. I'm too old for 99% of the contents, but still, it's cute. It's where I got my Disney Fit Flops (brown). They're overpriced for flip flops but they're really comfortable and if they work even a little bit, I'm better off than when I put them on. And they're the only souvenir I bought, and every time I look down at my feet I think of my WDW trip. :cloud9:

The brown ones were not nearly as shiny as the black ones and that appealed to me, but my mind keeps wandering back to the black ones . . . MUST. NOT. BUY!!!!!
